“I love my Dead Gay son!”?
sigh I am pretty sure I explained this in the other thread. The difference is the difference between calling someone a nigger or a faggot and having someone who happens to be black or gay say something offensive and responding “That’s offensive, it would be like me telling nigger (or faggot) jokes”. See the difference?
Yeah man.
Like I can say the word Kraut all I want because, in my arbitrary system of moral approval/disapproval of all actions taken by all persons over the last approximately 500 years, Krauts are the fuckin worst, amirite? So I can fucking say the fucking word Kraut whenever. Because they were bad guys and Nazis: fuck you Krauts!
This is fucking awesome, as long as I can find a subjectively historical reason to hate people of a certain color or ethnic background, I can burden them with my hate! All you Krauts, your ancestors did bad shit, so you have to understand that in the “broader context” (which is basically just pseudo-intellectual babble for me rationalizing my bullshit) I am perfectly justified in throwing a little hatespeech your way. Just a little, you know, hatespeech.
Hey, do me a favor, Captain White Guilt: go choke on a cock somewhere. A big fat fucking dick. You sound like a circa-1990 racial sensitivity poster child, claiming to be for “diversity,” but really nothing more than an advertisement for the post-sixties “virtues” of self-loathing and reverse racism. Oh hey, thanks Giles, for being so fucking brave and volunteering other fucking people to be the targets of hatespeech because of your well-trained sense of historical “justice”. Oh hey, thanks Giles, I’m sure all the dead slaves feel soooo much better now that you “white folk” hate yourselves for shit you didn’t do.
You twat. If you can’t help but give voice to your socially programmed feelings of purposeless guilt, don’t volunteer anyone but yourself. And if you’re that eager to be abused, I will fucking oblige you.
Seriously, a nice big fat one. All the way down. Thanks in advance.
Not really, but I think I understand your position at least.
Thank you. Carry on.
Fuck you for drinking and driving.
I didn’t call you a troll because I don’t think you are one. I think you’re someone who likes to take a contrary, in-your-face stance. You honestly posted a thread called “White People Suck” and didn’t think for a second that a title like that was going to stir the pot? You might also note I didn’t say you were doing a bad thing with your shit-stirring ways; just that pretending to be all surprised that the pot got stirred rings false to me.
ETA: I do apologize for saying “we all know it,” though - of course I don’t know what everyone here knows, and can only speak for myself.
Dave, I don’t presume to tell you how to live your life, but please allow me to offer you some advice. If you have *friends * who so casually hate on others, perhaps you might not want them to be your friends. Again, I know you don’t know me, and I am no expert on having a shit load of friends, but allowing someone to think your their friend when they are not of what I can obviously tell meet your standards, and from your words you speak this as truth, don’t waste your time with them. Resorting to violence to prove your intent is a last resort. Be sure I know from experience that people who are this shallow and hateful rarely posses the balls to take it to this level.
Don’t sell yourself short. You seem like the kind of man that others would seek to be friends with, and you don’t need them.
I can tell you are the kind of man who stands tall. Be resolved to do so. It is the way of great men.
I apreciate the thoughtful advice, but this guy isn’t my friend, he’s just a guy at a bar.
Marley23, I so rarely disagree with you that I think I should speak up. I think that you are assuming that all white people in the United States have the same kind of job and experiences that you have had. That isn’t the case.
There are many of us who have chosen in our careers to make ourselves a member of the white minority.. Our bosses and supervisors are primarily African-American, our co-workers are primarily African-American, and our “clients” are primarily African-American. I can tell you from experience that white people in those circumstances can also be the target of racial discrimination.
I was denied a teaching position because I was the wrong race. This was at a time when the school system was trying to get more African-American role models in the inner city schools. I understood the justification and didn’t quibble about it. But there were other times when the discrimination was much more personal.
I am not comparing it to the indignities that African-Americans have indured. But the offense is in the prejudice, the hatred and the bigotry itself, not in the scorning of specific races, genders or countres of origin. Surely you can’t say it’s okay to scorn this group, but not that.
I find the racial bigotry stated in the OP to be just as hateful as as any other racial generality of the same nature.
I live in a very multi-cultural neighborhood.
Ouch, that stings. So who shall we choose to hold the money?
I was once passed over for a teaching position in favor of a fellow classmate - we were in the same program in the same school, so I knew him fairly well. He had much less teaching experience than I had, and we’d taken a teaching class together so I’d seen his teaching demonstrations and was pretty sure my skills were at least equal to his. The position was a full-time teaching gig at a Chicago city college. My friends half-joked that his race (African American) trumped my teaching experience. There might have been some other reason I’m not aware of that made him a better candidate, I admit. But at time I had to wonder. :: shrug :: But I’m also a minority myself, so I probably shouldn’t complain.
Well getting fucked is something I’d get drunk and drive for.
Jesus luci. You see, it’s like this. I’ve just arrived at work (I commoute by bike), and it’s so fucking freeezing I’m tyyping with my elbowws.
Now yoyu’ve gone and made me crack my fever bluistrers…
Bastard.
Firstly “we white folk” are not one homogeneous group, so “we” haven’t been running the show, a small minority of the rich and privileged have.
Secondly no-one deserves to have hate speech directed at them regardless of skin colour etc, especially not for actions which are not their own.
As to your last point, when does it become hate speech?
Maybe I am, but again - admitting that I’m making a generalization - white people generally aren’t discriminated against as a group and haven’t been oppressed in the USA. I’ll grant that I didn’t think of your exception, but I don’t think it invalidates what I’m saying by and large, particularly since you say right here that you’ve chosen to become part of a white minority.
I’ve never said it’s okay to scorn any group, and if Erasmus Darwin graces us with his presence again I’d like him to know how much I fucking resent what he’s implied here about me, because I never said I was okay with any form of discrimination. That’s not a reasonable interpretation of anything I said, and insulting to be the target of this kind of invented “concern.”
Given the nature and stated intent of the OP, I don’t agree, but real prejudice is terrible regardless of the target. I’m beyond annoyed that I feel compelled to make that kind of bland and obvious remark because of what’s been said about me here.
I’ve seen what I would consider hate speech directed against many groups here. Blacks, whites, Southerners, women, Spaniards, Arabs, anyone who doesn’t support Israel, Jews, gays, Republicans, liberals, socialists, communists and Christians. And I’ve left out many, I’m sure.
I tried to get a definition of hate speech before and it wasn’t forthcoming. I think it’s one of those “We know it when we see it” situations. And there is some merit to that. We need to be able to discuss political and religious differences and social issues.
At the same time, I don’t think that the group of mods and administrators may be especially atuned to the hot button words that some groups see as attacks.
People of color swallow?
I based my comments about you only on what you said:
Because racial slurs don’t change just because the race changes. It doesn’t matter to me if the OP says something to the effect of “Pardon me white I exaggerate here, but all of the people in my race are assholes.”
Oh, yes it sure as shit does. It happens in multicultural communities or communities that are primarily non-white.
Over all, not for their race, no. But half of the white people in this country have been and are discriminated against for their gender. Many black women will tell you that they have had more gender-based discrimination than race-based. It’s been twenty or so years since I’ve seen a report so maybe things are changing for a younger generation of black women. I don’t know. That gives you an idea of how bad gender discrimination can be.
White people have been denied the right to marry based on their race if they chose to marry someone who was black. And half of white people have been considered property, despite their race. Further, half of white people have been denied the right to vote despite their race. So those arguments don’t hold a lot of sway with me.
Not when seven trespassers invaded my school and one of them knocked me out and put me in the hospital for three days. And then there was the mugging since I retired. And the student who threatened to throw acid on my face. And the student who threatened to slit my throat. (That last one did go to prison for murdering someone during an armed robbery on the street outside a restaurant.)
When I said that I became part of the “white minority,” I was speaking of my position where I worked. But there are thousands and thousands of white teachers alone who choose to teach in the inner city school systems.
If you are not familiar with discrimination against whites, don’t just assume that it isn’t there.
I don’t disagree with you about whites not having suffered as a whole as badly as blacks have because of their race.
Racial slurs do, however, change as the speaker’s race changes.
If Weirddave was not a white person, his OP could reasonably be construed as a racist remark. He is a white person, though, which means he can say whatever he wants about white people as a group. He can’t talk about Poles if he isn’t Polish or French-Canadians if he isn’t French-Canadian and so on, but he can talk about white people.
That’s why black guy can call another a “nigger” but I can’t call him the same thing. It’s why Jews can make jokes about Jews being cheapskates but non-Jews can’t (although they do).
Yep. I’m in the deepest part of the Deep South in a small town where a lot of white folks use the n-word indiscriminately. (I’m white btw) In public I ignore it, but with my friends I just start using anti-white slurs, so now they at least won’t use the word in my presence.
As to “hating white people,” I took the phrase as entirely rhetorical, meant with no racial shame or pride–just making a point.
The comedian Tim Wilson, from Columbus, GA (another white guy btw–IMHO WAY more “southern” than the Blue Collar Comedy Tour) does a skit about being down on white people, and it’s hardly race hatred or blame. (Sorry I couldn’t find a link to it).
