Who is the comedian I saw on Comedy Central Sunday night?

I didn’t see the whole show, but this guy was friggin’ hilarious. I was interrupted by a phone call and missed the end. One of his analogies was comparing people who write “Thank you for the nice article” letters to magazines to people who might write Thank You letters to their local supermarkets for putting the eggs in a carton so that they’re easier to carry home.

Was it him? I think I recall him making that joke

Can you describe him? Your example sounds a little like Jim Gaffigan’s material.

I found him. His name is Paul F. Tompkins:

I think the guy is too funny. But I have a weird sense of humor, so you might not agree.

Was he white? black? hispanic? what did he look like? Thin? heavy?

Animated? reserved?

I can probably pick him out, just give me some more info on what he looked like…

D.

In the months preceeding the theatrical release of Magnolia Aimee Mann was playing a couple shows a month at Largo in Los Angeles.

She’d explain to the audience that she wasn’t good with “witty in-between-song banter” so whenever they needed to stall in between songs she would have Paul F. Tompkins come onto stage to talk some funny.

She also often used him as an opening act.

Jon Brion will sometimes have Tompkins guest at his shows at Largo as well.

Tompkins is also part of that circle of comics that do the Monday night show at Largo.

I agree, he’s hilarious. One of my favorites. The bits he did for Aimee Mann were awesome.
