(Old) Who, me? I started the MMP today!

It’s your body and your decorations, luv, but I really wish you could reconsider. What you want to do feels like … capitulating.

Can’t let the terrorists win!

Nope. It’s in the lease “tenant is responsible for blah blah” but I put in a maintenance request through the management company’s portal anyway, hoping to sorta sneak it past them, and was swiftly shot down.

I’ve never even seen a quail! Are they common where you are?

I like this approach.

{ snerk }

You eat well, my friend! Is this from local places, or do you cook for yourself?

And g’day right back atcha!

With all the recent cake-related chatter, I’m sure we’ll have a welcoming party set up for ya shortly.

Heh, I had the same thought.

{ shakes head sadly }

:open_mouth:

Aw, naw!

Last night was set to be pretty smooth, for a Friday, and then shortly before close all hell broke loose.
Some guy walked up to a car as it was pulling away (panhandling or begging for them to buy food) and handwaved us away (“I’m with her!” The hell you are.) and as that was being dealt with, the guy at the window absolutely exploded at me, like went from 0 to 60 in a second, screaming really ugly threats directly in my face.

“Nigga oughta beat the SHIT out of you!” was when I locked the window.

Coupla cars later I got a $4 tip, so clearly, sir, I do know how to do my job.

Earlier in the day was abundantly sunny (“false spring”) so people were in a GOOD mood. Way higher than usual number of accompanying doggies, the surprise appearance of which is one of the highlights of my job.

Nice storms late last night starting just as we were leaving, nothing too dramatic but I love a good overnight rain, which helped soothe my very rattled nerves.

Now it’s all sunny again (ugh!) and I’m letting Monkey have some running-around time before, hopefully, snoozing a bit more.

My name is shoe and I endorse this sentiment.

(Please stick around!)

Ron White: “It’s not that the wind is blowin’. It’s what the wind is blowin.'”

Hey, I found the clip!

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!

I had a good day, but unfortunately many did not. Fires broke out all over the state and homes were lost. I’m rather surprised I kept power - I ran errands this morning and power lines and poles are down all over the place. The air quality has been terrible from the dirt, ash and smoke. The air purifier I keep in my living room cranked itself up to 10 and hasn’t let up, so there’s a lot still floating around. Hopefully today is much calmer!

Have you thought about doing a little wildflower and clover patch somewhere? Also, there are several apps you can download on your phone that will identify bird calls. I use BirdNet.

Sounds like you also paid for a beautiful view while you ate, and that can be worth it!

Welcome to the Board & MMP!

:people_hugging: Oh I’m crying just remembering making that final trip for my departed pets. Having them home again was such a comfort.

taters I hope the madness stops soon

BBBoo you must have had some pretty good sized hail to cause that kind of damage!

shoe I hate people like that - what the hell is wrong with them??

{{hugs}}
Yes, that’s where Bubba rests at my house.

Oh, Taters, I hope things get better for you soon.

Marinara? That’s what I read. lol

Good job!!

Hooray! Sorry about the idiot.

Just found out that Annie will probably have to have surgery after all. She’s got a horrible snorting and wheezing thing going on still even with the infection gone. I am so bummed. I was hoping that the antibiotics would be enough. I’m supposed to call the vet again early next week to see what the game plan will be.

Home again! So I managed to get out of the engine room… eventually. The problem was that the soles of my shoes were greasy, but the one place I could step to boost myself out was smooth and my foot slipped. I managed to boost myself up, which was a major achievement, considering I have crappy upper body strength. But I do have a small folding stool that I’ll take next time - it’ll be just enough to get my butt over the edge of the floor.

For reference (click on the pic for a less distorted view):

The area where FCD is standing is where the 2 floor panels were down and I had to climb up to sit on the panel shown in front of him. The ladder is not installed and the generator (the red thing behind the ladder) has been moved out of the way for the removal/reinstallation of the fuel tanks (which are on either side of the generator, and not visible in this picture.)

There’s a plywood panel in place of the metal panel just forward of the generator, and that’s where I was sitting to work down there. It’s also all I had to stand on to get out, and it’s not quite high enough to get my butt to the floor easily. I’m not 30 years old any longer! But I think I can set the little stool on the plywood and get a boost out. We’ll see. What I was doing was to first, vacuum up all the crud from 40 years plus the crud generated from removing the tanks. Then I sprayed degreaser on the inside of the hull and along the stringers, scrubbed, and rinsed. I’m about 1/3 of the way done. Not my idea of a good time, but FCD doesn’t need to be doing that with his back and his knees. And more fun ahead for me.

So, how’s your day??

Spitty rain - surely doesn’t look like the sun that was forecast - and the big storm due tomorrow around suppertime. We’re done for the day. Theoretically. Definitely not going back to the boat. Which means it’s time to do the surfing I usually do first thing in the morning. Yay!

Last night’s predicted storm never materialized in MSP, so we slept soundly. It looks like there may have been a rain shower, but there were supposed to be thunderboomers and high winds. Nope.

Waiting for eldest son and his kids to arrive any time now. Oops, just got pinged that he’s waiting for the burger order down the street.

So I was loading for the morning, one set and helping on the other set. And a brief foray onto the 100 Table. I had a harrowing experience at the end, while reboxing a couple of items. But I’m home, laundry is spinning, I’m having the usual bacon, eggs, and gin&tonic, and Spot has died of starvation and ennui:

{{{{boofae}}}} They always leave a big hole in our hearts for such small critters.

Just don’t fall onto the bottom of the boat, or you could be keeled.

I cook!

Eek. I don’t miss that at all.

{{{{Taters}}} between the fridge and the < gestures at everything > not a good week for you.

@JimC

I am not sure, but didn’t I play Mafia there a few years ago??

I am pretty sure I used to play at Rational Skepticism

FINALLY we took the artwork late-BIL had done and sent it to TX SIL. It should have been sent months ago. There’s a UPS pack-n-ship store in Leonardtown and we took it there. They had to piece together 2 boxes to make one that would work - the frame was around 50" long. We trusted the guy there to pack it safely (glass over the art, yanno) and we insured it so that if the glass or frame is damaged, it can be replaced. Here’s hoping it survives intact.

The rest of the day is dedicated to chillage. FCD just went to nap and I’m about to assume the recliner position with my tablet. The sun has finally come out - a taunt before the storm moves in. Tomorrow, we’re staying home because of the weather. Unless we decide to go out. Because indecision is the key to flexibility!

Afternoon all. Did make it to the gym for an abbreviated workout, was watching the weather updates during pedaling and walking, and made it home before the weather deteriorated, which it is in the process of doing now, with thunder and light rain presaging some serious storming in about an hour or so. Hatches are all battened and doors locked so ready for the storm. Now if it doesn’t knock out my power…

Shoe. lovely clip, I do enjoy listening to Ron ‘Tater Salad’ White. And people be…people, and they come in every variety and a few none of us can predict. And we have a high wind warning here, albeit it hasn’t shown up yet.

52, hope the weather and the fires abate shortly, does not sound like a healthy time there.

Sticky Buns, best wishes for both you and Annie.

FCM, thanks for the picture, I doubt that I could fit down there and getting out would …interesting. Hope the aches and pains aren’t there tomorrow.

And then they would have to haul her out…

And that’s all for the afternoon, will let you know if I survived the storming this evening. Take care all.

Please do check in. I worry when storms come through your area, as I know how destructive they can be.

After back bacon, a banger and an egg for breakfast, I went out to do stuff. I picked up a prescription in Blaine, went to the credit union in Ferndale, got the scans of the 35mm film I shot on our vacation last October, went to Chef’s Store for five or six pounds of bacon and 120 slices of American cheese, went to Trader Joe’s to get The Spousal Unit some decaf pods, went to the supermarket for a head of cabbage, a couple of Yukon Gold potatoes, and cat grass, came home and saw a coyote on the way, and portioned out the cheese (six fold-top sandwich bags) and the bacon (5⅔ parcels, three portions of four slices each).

Wifey’s Ukrainian flag arrived while I was out, and she put a flag pole on the corner of the house and hung it.

Now I think I’ll sauté some mushrooms I bought from some guy on the street.

Made spaghetti for early supper.
Im putting the rest in the fridge for later.
Its sunny and 70 which isnt good because that can generate turbulence later, when its to rain.
Washed hair. I only do it twice a week now because its breaking and coming out too much. It did a year ago, then I took biotin.
Now its doing it again.
Seems whenever I get sick.
Church tomorrow.

Happy Doperversary, Sticks and Scones! :shortcake:

WifeBFF had reverse shoulder replacement surgery on Tuesday: it’s an outpatient procedure, but she had some recurring low blood pressure issues and wound up being admitted to the hospital. I’ve been getting regular updates from HusbandBFF and didn’t expect to see her for a week or two, but at 8:45am – an hour after I woke up; I’d just finished taking the dog out and feeding her, brushing my teeth, etc., and had just sat down at the computer – he texted and asked if I wanted to visit. Of course, I went! It was really good to see her. I hung out for a while, went with HusbandBFF to get lunch for her (and us), then hung out some more. At around 1:30pm the nurses came in to try to get her upright for a while, and that was my cue to leave. She should be transferring to rehab sometime this coming week; I’ll see if she’s up to another visit next weekend.

I think yesterday’s interview went well – and, it turns out I’m more interested in this position than the one I interviewed for a week ago! The hiring manager said she’s planning to make a decision on Monday: she’ll be on vacation for the rest of the week, so I hope to hear something soon. If I get this offer (:crossed_fingers:) before I hear about the other job, I’m likely to accept and withdraw from the first one.

I’ve been at my computer since I got home from the hospital, and am finally about to relocate to the living room. I’m looking forward to a quiet evening: mostly vegging on the couch watching TV, but likely also doing some Batwing (Lego) assembly.

From 1983 to 1985, my family lived in North Yorkshire --15 miles northwest of Harrogate (in Pateley Bridge). I was a young teen, and have many treasured memories of those years. So when I got into English football a few years ago, supporting Harrogate Town was a no-brainer. I haven’t been to England since we left 40 years ago, but I’ve been planning an eventual return to Harrogate and Pateley for ages. Whenever I finally go, I hope to attend a Town match!

Nah; it’s not like that. I got the tattoo in 1999, and have never had a problem with either the artwork or the subject matter: it’s the size and location that eventually stopped working for me. Even then, it took many years to decide to have it removed.

Nothing like that is involved. I already work for the company, have been cleared forever, etc., and it’s not like I was going to transfer to his program: all he had to do was have Finance give me access to the contract’s charge code, which takes 15 minutes. There’s no reason for last week’s radio silence that he couldn’t have mentioned. Trust me: if there were any benefit of the doubt to give him, he’d have it! I might ping him on Monday just to ask what happened, but at this point I’m no longer inclined to start helping him.

Approximately 5.5" long x 4" wide.

Just like someone should think long and hard before getting a tattoo, someone should also think long and hard before removing one. Removal is much more expensive, much more painful, and takes a lot longer. Plus, this administration is temporary: if your only objection to your ink is related to that, there’s a chance that if you remove it now you’ll regret it in 4 years (or less!).

Welcome!

Awww. :people_hugging:

Ugh. :worried:

Holy :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: !

Could you guys get a quick response from local police if you ever needed it?

Ha! :joy:

OK, bit of weird here. There was a random, high-pitched tone repeating in no particular pattern. Walking around the house, I eliminated the basement, the garage, the end of the house where the bedrooms are, and even the smoke alarm in this room. Tho that was kinda a no-brainer since smoke alarms are not little beeps. I did narrow it down to this room.

Then I came to my computer and closed the “Settings” tab that I had been using. And the beep stopped. WTF?? Has anyone heard of such a thing? Is my settings option haunted? FWIW, I went there to change my home page from Google to Duck Duck Go. Was Google getting even with me??

Just weird.

The sun is shining brightly, right before sundown, of course. According to Accuweather, clouds will move back in within an hour of so, and this time tomorrow, t-boomers could start.

I found a slightly larger step stool to take to the boat. Getting out the next time should be lots easier. Well, except for the part where I’m sitting on the floor and have to skooch around to get to my knees, then stand. it’s not pretty. That’ll likely happen again on Moanday.

Since the mystery of the beep is over, I’m heading to my recliner.

Jiji is in a box that’s shaped like a cat curled up. It’s black to match his fur, and is big enough that we’ll be able to put his sisters in with him when the time comes.

I’m sorry. I hope that she comes through with flying colors.

I didn’t find an acceptable bedspread at either thrift store, although I did pick up a couple of sleep shirts and a couple of pair of pajama pants, so I ordered the one from Macy’s. It should be here Monday.

I swung though CVS at Tar-jay and when I got out, the clouds opened up and I got drenched. It came down sideways all the way home. I no sooner stepped through the door when the tornado siren went off. I snatched up Nelson and took a seat in the hall closet, bug out bags at my feet, doggy on my lap, flashlight, phone and tablet at hand. We were in there for about 20 minutes when the radio gave the all clear. While we didn’t get hit, apparently a community in the southeast corner of the county had one spotted.

I just finished up a bowl of dumb soup (thanks for that name, shoe!) and am fixing to play in the studio.

Welcome, we need more rationality nowadays!

Hubs has a cover-up on his forearm and I think it is ugly. He had to go dark to cover the name (not mine) and it looks all smudgy now. Of course, he’s never bothered to protect his skin so the sun has done a number on it.

But honestly, I really don’t have the time to deal with it anyhow. I can remember back when I was still working and looking forward to being retired. I was going to have all of the time in the world to stitch and read and garden and just be as non-productive as possible.

Yeah, right, like that ever happened, LOL!!!

They really are. I had no idea until the first time it happened but I sure did get it figured out fast! I’m on Ropinirole which oddly enough is what Hubs is also taking for his Parkinson’s symptoms. It has stopped the kicking, but now my feet are cramping in the morning.

None of that happens when I’m not taking the thyroid meds which makes me really wonder if I should be taking them at all. I’d probably have to find a new doctor if I stopped, he seemed really upset when I told him that I had just stopped taking it.

It is important to be flexible

I’ve never had an issue getting shots, but do understand that I’m lucky. Poor Hubs just up and passes out. Tattoos and piercings are just fine, a tetanus shot is enough to knock him down like he’d been shot with a gun.

It’s the little things that make all of the difference in the world.

That was me and thank you for your encouragement. I’m currently swinging between despair and anger. Hope has left the room. All that is left now is to go down fighting.

Afternoon. It is currently 70F and the wind is trying to blow the house over. We are pretty much out of the storm zone, we are just getting the left overs.

Thank you so much.

Dang about the fridge, I’m always a little worried about our ice makers as well. I make Hubs pull all of our appliances out from the wall once a year for inspection and cleaning and I sometimes wonder if I should bump that up to every six months for the fridge.

Well that sounds pretty scary. I’m glad that all you lost from the storms was a little sleep. Staying home and hunkering down sounds like a very good idea.

Just what you need.

Hubs used to love hail storms in Phx. They would get golf ball sized hail and the damage to cars was constant. Hail damage was super easy to fix and the insurance companies were paying bonuses to get their customer’s cars fixed first. Plus, if he got lucky and one of our cars was damaged, he would take the insurance check and then fix the damage on the weekend.

I fled MAGA AZ because I was accosted by armed men while trying to vote. I am going to WVU to protest every other day - went today as a matter of fact. I am talking to and seeing the ugly side of MAGA and ingrained racism showing under the mask of civility and politeness. I haven’t given up and I won’t give up, but I also don’t want the mark of the beast on me and that’s how I feel every time I see it.

Ya can’t logic someone out of a belief they have emotioned themselves into. That stands for maga and it is the same for me.

But, thank you for the encouragement.

I’m spoiling my political stuff because some people don’t want to hear it. Please do not click if you think I will offend you. I probably will.

Now see…I wouldn’t worry so much about the effect on my water bill as much as what the missing water is doing behind my back. I’d guess the good thing about having carpet is knowing that you will find water leaks with your feet…

The tree has bloomed even more, it is fabulous! The neighbor to the left has a tree that is starting to turn red but the forest is still bare.

I’m a prepper, I was brought up that way and married a man who embraced the lifestyle. Vaccinations are one of the ways to be prepared for an emergency (I wish he would listen to me about that). Even discounting covid and measles and RSV, it is important to keep your tetanus shots up to date in case of a flood. If you are out in that water, any cut or scrape you have is a vector for all sorts of ick to get into your body.

They’ve already won, that happened a very long time ago. But, remember trump dry-humping the flag in the oval office? Once something is seen it can never be unseen.

That surprises me, I would have thought they were in Texas. They aren’t common where we live, but they are at his cousin’s house. Of course, every bird in WV lives in their back yard because they are too fat to fly over the fence.

My heart goes out to Lucy, she will never understand why her whole world has turned upside down. Usually I don’t advocate lying to adults, but sometimes it is the kindest thing to do.

She kinda knows what retirement is, she knows that people are happy when it happens. She’s been to office parties for folks who are retiring.

Now Lucy deserves her own retirement party (with her boss if they can carve some time out for such a thing) with cake and cards and decorations. Everyone can be happy for her and make this a happy thing. Then she can devote herself to her real passion, reading books to frightened cats or learning how to weave or even growing food for the table.
