I know one thing. If Vance should ever visit my house, he’s getting a metal folding chair to sit on.
Man’s gonna bring back slipcovers all by his lonesome.
Whether or not it’s true, I hope the rumor persists, because it’s just too hilarious.
according to walz, these guys are weird.
‘These guys are weird’: Gov. Walz blasts Trump-Vance ‘obsession’ with anti-freedom agenda - YouTube
Maybe Vancing will become synonymous with freaky self-pleasure.
amusing as the whole couch thing reminds me of santorum.
Yeah, Donald is hurting, badly, from all the attention being on Kamala. Vance becoming a laughingstock over the couch story must be driving Trump’s blood pressure even higher. I have no trouble believing the predictions that Trump will cut him loose.
Likely the manner will be a Sir Story: Vance will walk up to Trump on camera, tears in his eyes, and say “I am so overcome by your awesomeness that I cannot continue as your running mate. I pray only that someone worthy of you can take my place.”
As to why Vance would agree to do this: some combination of being told 'do you really want Trump to post that you are an Enemy of the People and that some patriot should take you out?’ AND a consolation prize funded by Thiel and/or Musk. (A highly-paid no-show job, perhaps, to help usher Vance out of the Senate as well as off the ticket.)
The only question is: when? Some have said around the time of the Dem convention to take away their press----but I would seriously doubt that Trump could wait that long. He needs to change the headlines away from Kamala and toward himself NOW.
But if he dumps Vance, then who? Boebert? MTG?
I joked upthread about an announcement that he was going to rehab as an excuse to get him off the ticket, but I could actually see the Trump team leaking something about an opioid addiction and Vance needs to step down to take care of it. Vance gets sent off on a nice little “vacation,” and Trump gets to pick a new running mate. Then they can also pivot to how opioids are destroying hard-working middle American families and Democrats are at fault.
That would likely be his motivation, but if he’s resigned to jettisoning Vance, it’s also politically smart. Rip the bandaid off and let as much time as possible pass between the dismissal and election day.
As noted multiple times, it will be perceived as dysfunctional and weak. Make it an old story as soon as you can.
He can’t dump Vance. Vance was chosen by the Republicans at the convention, not by Trump.
He could pressure Vance into resigning, upon which the RNC rules doubtless have a rule allowing for a replacement to be chosen somehow.
Vance is a sycophant though, so he won’t.
I don’t think Vance will be bounced. I think it would do too much damage, and it would take away the argument that Harris’ nomination is illegitimate.
And the couch story is too gross to go mainstream.
And to be fair, well, let’s just say I’m NOT going to tell stories of what 13 year old me did and with what.
Serious question: Does the rumor say how old Vance was?
Yes, but the veep thing is an opportunity.
Trump’s base would have had a real fit if he picked Haley, or even Scott, the first go-round. Because the Republicans have a turnout problem, they were non-starters.
But now that the cat lady thing shows a full MAGA veep pick to have been a mistake, the base will be more understanding. This gives Trump room to pick someone who will grow his coalition.
Right, exactly. You’re not going to put it in your autobiography. When normal people do gross or reprehensible things, we keep it quiet. When Republicans do gross or reprehensible things, they share them, because they think it makes them more relatable.
Not to mention apparently being apocryphal.
Right- I’m aware that it isn’t true. But NPR and CNN aren’t going to want to go there regardless.
Same here, though perhaps not to sit on, exactly. And “grab them by the p*ssy” went mainstream, and it was pretty gross.
Allegedly he had chosen Doug Burgum but was convinced by Junior to go with Vance. Burgum is a spineless chameleon but a stable person who would still satisfy the tech bros and only draw interest by being not Vance. His history before the suck up trying to be VP phase was not hard MAGA but more mainstream GOP, and as a businessman was reknown for recognizing and advancing female talent at high levels. He’d be a play to the middle. I had bet on him being the choice that made sense in the Trump VP thread.
What a quaint idea in 2024.
It’s truly a sign of this age, whatever age this is, that someone took a shot at Trump less than two weeks ago and it’s already drifting toward the memory hole to become just one of a bunch of crazy/newsworthy things that have happened.
