I’m more concerned about how old the couch was.
The couch story doesn’t need to go mainstream to cause damage.
Better than going mainstream, it’s gone viral, and, much like the Santorum off yesteryear, it continues to spread.
Vance is fucking terrible, but these rose-colored predictions are sounding a lot like your dissertations that Trump’s health was deteriorating so fast it would crater his campaign and he wouldn’t be the nominee for long, or that he would back out of the June debate. Neither of those massive game-changers happened, and I don’t think Vance is going anywhere either, despite whatever Ben whatshisname says.
I think he will be bounced. All I’m not sure of is if I should renew my Stefanik prediction.
As for the argument that Harris is illegitimate, in order to believe this, you have to believe that Biden’s cognitive state is both good and steady. The only people who believe this are committed Democrats (and not all of them). Throwing away that weak argument is no loss.
Biden said he dropped out to unify his party. Trump now faces a similar situation:
One problem is that Vance trashed trump, until he started sucking up to him for his own political gain. If he’s pushed aside, I think there’s a risk to Trump that he starts trashing him again.
He was probably distracted. Look at what’s in the background. A big, plush chair covered in sexy red vinyl. I challenge any man to keep his thoughts straight when he’s in the room with this amazing piece of furniture:
I still figure Trump would try to spin it as, uh, functional and strong: stating that, when the Democrats were putting up a Biden/Harris ticket, he concluded that the best person to run against Biden is — of course — Trump himself; and, oh, against Harris, the best person would be Vance. And then he’d add that, since the Democrats had to drop Joe Biden after that trouncing in the debate, why, the best person to run against Harris turns out to be — checks notes — Trump himself, but the best person to counter Shapiro (or whoever) is Haley (or whoever).
And then he’d add that, if the Democrats again change their ticket — maybe after another debate debacle — well, gosh: he’ll then decide which Republican ticket has the best odds of winning against whomever the Dems are running this week. Spoiler alert: Trump will turn out to be the best choice for the top of the ticket, but whether X or Y or Z gets touted as having the best shot at neutralizing the Dem VP pick depends on who that is.
Could he sell that?
Oh, sure. He’d definitely spin it in a positive, manly man, powerful manner. He’d try, anyway.
There’s no way Trump is going to drop Vance at this point. And you can trust me because I told you there was no way Biden was going to drop out either.
That ad is incredible on many levels. The two that stuck out to me most are:
- He insults the hospitality that he is provided at campaign events as “crap.” And says he doesn’t eat much of it because it would make him fat. He is literally insulting his hosts.
- He then says that this very “crap” is what powers the campaign. Yes, the campaign is powered by crap.
I could go even more into the poor audio and oddly low-res video, but I’m still laughing too hard at the two points above.
Guys, is there any chance he was just trying to be self-deprecating?
Good one.
Normally, it’s smart to predict an unusual event won’t happen. And when it does happen, it’s even smarter to predict it won’t occur again. I’ve predicted Trump will bounce Vance, but I have very low confidence
Trying? Yeah, that’s probably what he was trying to do.
Succeeding? Absolutely not.
LMFAO!
If anybody has any doubts about Appalachian loyalty to Diet Dew, look what happened to KY Gov. Beshear:
Beshear, in a CNN interview, called the comment “weird” and added: “Who drinks Diet Mountain Dew?”
On Thursday he retreated — but only a little bit.
“Folks, I’ve been a person that when sometimes I’ve gone over the line, I’ve wanted to make sure that I set the record straight, so, I do owe an apology to Diet Mountain Dew,” Beshear said.

I’ll own my predictions and take the L on those. But people in the media were making the same speculations, especially about Trump not debating.
Where I was really, really wrong was about Biden being up for that debate and never considering once that he’d end up dropping out as he has. But it’s a case of bad luck turning into best luck.
Trump’s health is terrible. In the past week, he’s had aphasia issues indicative of dementia, such as not being able to think of the word “abortion” at all for a minute. The dude is like human shawarma at this point, with orange oozy slices just falling off him. I still would not be surprised if he simply collapsed or died before the election.
That’s overconfidence on your part. First of all, I immediately said in the relevant thread that Vance was the worst possible pick and would be a disaster. People were arguing against me. My prediction actually came true this time–even faster and with much greater magnitude than even I had thought possible. Can I get credit for that?
Lots of people in the media are now speculating that Trump will dump his ass. It’s not really a question of whether Trump is suffering because of his pick. It’s wholly a question of what kind of suffering Trump prefers: the train wreck in a time loop of keeping Vance, or taking the L on having chosen Vance. Knowing Trump, the latter pick is more palatable, since that ends the pain, and he can blame the pick on Vance’s poor performance as well as the bad advice of others.
All that you say is correct, and I would add this: Vance himself just seems soooo flimsy and amateurish. He’s like a high school “bruh” fist-bumping and chuckling over classroom antics.
As said upthread, Trump CAN NOT “dump” Vance. Vance was nominated by the delegates at the RNC.
Trump will have to convince Vance to drop out and decline the nomination.
All that has to happen is the RNC changes its rules re: replacing the VP, and I’m quite certain Trump can dictate this. There’s nothing realistic preventing Trump from kicking Vance to the curb, even if ol’ JD decides not to play along.
There’s no reason why the GOP couldn’t reconvene the delegates to the convention virtually as the Democrats are doing next week. Then they could revisit the VP nomination.
The other option would be to take advantage of the rule saying they can replace vacancies which may occur by reason of death, declination, or “otherwise.” Maybe they declare the VP nomination vacant after Vance can’t be found for a couple days after having been shoved into van.
