I can’t help but think that (given a neutral audience - a big if) a live audience helps Walz and hurts Vance, because Walz can speak to a crowd and Vance is an awkward mutherfukker with no charisma.
Trump’s base loves the bullying and one-liners. They want an audience there to go nuts when they make their insults.

IF I had to predict, it’s no. And the reason is by most accounts he used to be a decent guy, AND so far only Trump has been able to behave like a 12 year old schoolyard bully and pull it off.

FWIW my read of Vance is that he is very much not that. I get the feel of someone who always perceived himself as being bullied by that group, with a real inferiority complex, and who has been desperate to be accepted by them, happy to join in on bullying someone else to keep himself from being the target of that group.
It’s a different psychological mindset. Not sure if that matters though.

The Democratic Party should ask members to refrain from the whole couch thing, not because it isn’t true, rather because the Democratic Party shouldn’t be the party of kink shaming.
What exactly would that look like? Send out a press release? Run ads? Send out 50 million text messages? That sounds counterproductive unless what you are actually trying to do is draw more attention to it - which is exactly what they will be accused of doing.

Directly, sure (i.e. don’t say “Vance fucks sofas”). But I liked Walz’s “if he can get up off the couch…” poke. That kind of thing is great (when it’s funny, like it was in this instance). It’s entirely mundane and benign, and calling attention to it just highlights the rumors. Treat it like a joke because it is a joke.
Walz just needs to master, “Well, that’s just complete bullshit, and Mr. Vance knows it’s bullshit, but what isn’t bullshit is…” Just vary the points at which you add a tone of sneering contempt every time.
