Who will be Trump's running mate? (J. D. Vance Has Been Chosen)

That’s not Minnesota nice.

Seriously - Walz has the “friendly, supportive neighbour/teacher/coach” vibe all wrapped up. Sneering contempt undoes all that.

Vance is a Marine. He’s not a pushover.

“Let me couch this in terms that even Senator Vance can understand…”

Coach vs. Couch? But really, Vance isn’t Trump, and he’s a baby politically speaking. Don’t try to be tricky or rough, just point out his lies (and don’t clumsily try to work in your website if possible). Vance will try buzzwords and to keep Walz on the back foot and on defense. Ignore and counterpunch.

A text blast to the cell phone of every Democratic Party member saying, “Stay away from Vance’s couch.”

Yup, he shore looks tough!

I think it’s a mistake to underestimate him.

Anyone who gets through basic training with a Marine drill instructor has to have some gumption.

They need to have a list of real problems they can respond with, when Vance brings up a fake problem.

“Post birth abortions”; “That’s a bullshit fake problem, but what is a real problem is women not being able to access necessary healthcare in life-threatening situations.”

“We need energy independence via coal and oil”; “That’s a bullshit fake problem, but what is a real problem is climate-change caused wildfires that destroy untold acres of land and thousands of houses every year.”

“There’s murderers and rapists sneaking across the border!” “That’s a bullshit fake problem, but what is a real problem is finding enough hard workers to harvest our crops every year.”

And so on. Don’t even try to counter their bullshit with facts, just call it bullshit and point out that they’re ignoring the real problems. Press home the fact that you can’t fix the real problems we’re facing if you don’t even know what they are.

Weren’t the villains in Gangs of New York the intolerant asshole nativists?

You mean the great American role models?

…played by Englishmen.

This elicited a genuine guffaw. Please please make this a line that Walz uses during their debate.

I also laughed at the comment accompanying this picture.

This being from a couple weeks ago, it may have already been posted:

It’s worth noting that Vance thought it wise to raise negative historic Irish stereotypes at a police union event.

They were pretty much all villains.

I’m thinking we need a Monty Python “Life of Brian”-esque “Oi! Now he’s having a go at the Irish!” moment here.

And of course, he misses the big picture: Those very same “ethnic enclaves” eventually became just Americans. Why will the current immigrants be any different?

Oh, right, the racism. Maybe fix that, instead?

I do think Vance should not be underestimated. He does have a law degree from Yale. Presumably he knows how to make a case and despite the fact that his paucity of political experiemce is showing, he may do better in a debate format. That said, I think Walz is much more savvy behind the scenes than he lets on and a lot of his image may be carefully cultivated.

I look at all those Yale and Harvard and Wharton Law and Business grads out there populating DC, and y’kow, the Ivies have a lot of 'splainin to do.

I don’t think these work. Passionate, but respectful is a better tone than aggressive and dismissive.

They’re too easy to refute with talking points the other guy will have memorized.

“A bullshit fake problem? Tell that to the hard-working families of some-town whose mine was shut down by the out-of-control, illegal EPA, etc.”

“A bullshit fake problem? Tell that to the families of so-and-so who lost their mother to a dangerous illegal, etc.”
