Who's missing that you really want to see on the Board?

Satan was gone before I found the dope, but I’ve heard so much about him that I wish he was here.

I miss Dio too.

I’m alive, promise.

The pandemic has had the strange effect of (finally) convincing IT managers that IT people solving tickets can work from home. Not only am I living in my actual home for more than a week at a time since forever (well, since 2007), but I’ve been spending time Outside, doing things such as “see my family” and “pick up the bow again”.

So yeah, I’ve got y’all a bit abandoned. You can feed yourselves, right?

Yes, but it’s not the same without you.

Is the bow for archery, music, decoration, or something else?

Yeah, I need clarification so I’m not picturing the wrong sort of bow.

Archery.

The kind of bow which doesn’t have pulleys and goes TWANGGGG when you let go of the string.

Amusingly, my initial guess was an archery bow. (Clearly, I’ve played far too much D&D in my life. )

Dio had the very bad habit of citing himself- or to be correct his own blog/newsletter- as if it was a real cite.

I miss @ianzin. Posted three times in April this year and once in 2019, and before that not since 2016.

I drive a Jeep, so naturally was thinking about Rick today.

I miss QED, an extremely prolific poster on the SDMB for many, many years who seemed to know just about anything, No guff.

He had some trouble with the MODs toward the end of his SDMB career and ultimately was banned forever from the SDMB.

IIRC it was a few years after he was banned from the SDMB that an SDMB poster indicated that QED had passed away.

Although QED rubbed some SDMB members the wrong way, I loved him anyway.

He was definitely an acquired taste, let’s go with that.

RIP QED.

QED wasn’t banned. He was suspended, then more or less told that he was on his last chance. After that, he posted only rarely on SDMB, sticking mostly to the Giraffe boards.

I also miss him.

I saw your name in this thread and immediately thought of @ianzin, too - I echo your sentiments.

I wonder why my name should make you think of ianzin.

I think partly the British connection, partly I seem to remember you both participating in threads about Derren Brown/mentalism, possibly also some very old threads about something which I’m not sure I’m allowed to mention, though I’m sure you’ve moved on in the many years since. I guess topic bans don’t tend to get rescinded, formally or otherwise, so I’ll leave it at that.

I’ll add myself to the chorus of wishing WordMan would return to us. While I understand that their life makes that sort of venture difficult, it still doesn’t really calm the desire to see them post here again.

I’m eagerly awaiting the appearance of Sophia.

Sophia is in the full throes of ‘college freshman away from home for the first time in the nation’s biggest city’ frenzy… you may have to wait a while. Will let her know she’s being summoned, tho.

ETA: done!

I really miss all the Las Vegas/Southern California Dopers that showed up at the various Dopefests: Rick, Yeticus Rex, DMark, GiantFreakingMarine, LVGeoBabe, Shayna, Spiny Norman…the list is a long one.

There was some weird dude, “daniel in the lions den” or something, who drew me in as a lurker. I think he was banned. He had a quote contest with some other poster, that poster had the Works of William Shakespeare, Dan had The Bible. Dan won. It was a great thread. Long ago.

Plot twist: Sophia joined the Dope three years ago, to keep an eye on the old man. She’s been posting in the persona of a scattered-but-charming Arkansas country woman, who posts tales of the bad, bad, bad things that happen in her, her children, and her two Siameezers.
