Who's missing that you really want to see on the Board?

There she is. All is well again.
Thx, Sunny.

Looking at all the names posted and thinking back over my 20 years here, it’s surprising and saddening to think about how people can go from being a daily virtual part of my life to being gone and I would never really notice until someone would call it out.

I originally thought that maybe it was a function of online only interactions, but after some thought, I can think of several times I was part of tight knit groups at work that changed and dispersed as people on. Maybe I’m more aware of the change in the immediate, but the impact is more apparent in hindsight.

I suppose some of the difference is that I don’t have a search engine and zombie threads at work and in my personal life.

There was a poster named Zenster some years ago. The guy had put together a couple of recipe threads that were excellent, and the guy was clearly steps above my skill level. He self-destructed in some irrelevant thread.

We are both huddling at home in relative comfort in these days of COVID, and deeply appreciative of being thought of. She sends her thanks.

What part of “Fire Lane: No Parking” don’t you fuckspigots understand?

He had a point in that post.

I guess he did.

Concur, Ministre was great to have around, great guy and crazy knowledgeable. Also miss E-Sabbath, who started the Great Ongoing Guitar Thread a bazillion years ago, which is still going.

WordMan is still posting over at The Gear Page, and very instrument-geeky place.

I have not been in touch with Quasimodem for years. He was active on some other site for a while after his last posting on the Dope, but I can’t find the name of it. I sent a PM to him, perhaps it will reach him somehow, we’ll have to see.

I miss indistinguishable as well. I recall that he left school for a job and his posting dwindled after that.

WordMan officially quit the Dope? I didn’t know that and I’m sorry to hear it. Are his reasons for leaving something that can be publicly shared?

He was a lovely support to me when our kids were both applying to college at the same time, and I was freaking out in classic idiot-parent “my-life-is-over-if-my-child-isn’t-accepted-at-a-highly-selective-college” style, which seems ridiculous in retrospect but somehow made sense to me at the time. (His son ended up going to UPenn, mine to Haverford, but I don’t think they ever met.)

Anyway, whatever WordMan is up to, I wish him all the best!

I also concur with many of the people listed above - WhyNot (who returned briefly a few months ago, IIRC) and spiceweasel came to my mind first, but a lot of the others are greatly missed to.

I won’t go into details, but it was mostly because of professional and familial obligations. And I don’t think he officially quit, he just stopped posting, and I hope there’s a chance that he’ll be back someday.

I’m not sure that he ever “officially” quit, but his last post was in May of '18. As I noted upthread, I know some of his reasons, but probably not all of them, and I’m not sure it’s my place to give details.

Dex. Best moderator the Dope ever had. Unfailingly polite and reasonable, even when handing out warnings

So many:

Techchick68
London Calling
Canadian Sue
Girl by the sea
Andygirl
Quietgirldownthehall
Pepperlandgirl
Mirror indigo shadows
River Hippie
Athena
Purple crack whore

Threads like this make me very sad to be reminded of those who are gone.

I think @River_hippie has been posting.

Yes.

Dare I say, Cecil Adams?

I had forgotten about her. She had a huge flameout over some piddly disagreement that started over (or in?) one of my early threads. I feel kinda guilty about that, she was pretty cool.

That was the greatest anti-Star Wars rant I have ever read. I wish she would return too.

That was one of the greatest rants I’ve read on the SDMB, period. It eclipses Eutychus’s anti-Mary Poppins screed by a wide margin, which is a difficult achievement to beat:

My apologies. You are absolutely right. She is sorely missed.
