Who's Single and Available? (aka the Chilling / Comfort Thread)

Thanks, Inigo. Check your PayPal account!

I’m male, 22, 5’7", short black hair and green eyes. New York-born.

I’m a writer (starving journalist by trade) who loves to read, listen to music, and watch plays and movie. I love comedy and I try not to brag, but I’m pretty sure I’m funny. I’ve got very particular tastes but I try to be open-minded. I love discussing all of the above with people and I love discussing ideas with people, which is probably why I post here. Big Marx Brothers fan.

For fun I like to write, of course (I have so many half-finished things laying around), but I also go to concerts when I can and often write reviews. For publication, when I can. I’ve been a guitarist for the last 8+ years and of late I’m actually reasonably satisfied with what I can do, though I’d like to be a lot better.

Foods: I’m a vegetarian of the completely non-pushy and -moralizing variety. I love cheese and I’m very into pasta. Also Thai food and Indian food.

Music: As I said, I’m picky, but I won’t pick on you or refuse to talk to you if we don’t like the same thing. I do enjoy sharing the music I love with people I like, but I try not to be pushy about that either. I like a lot of blues and jazz fusion-type things, plus some original blues guys like Howlin’ Wolf. Also on my list are the Allman Brothers Band, Derek Trucks, Zappa, Radiohead, etc.

My favorite authors are F. Scott Fitzgerald, Douglas Adams, and Shakespeare. I’ve mostly read biographies and real-life stuff lately, but I’m trying to get back into fiction. Recent reading: I, Robot (Asimov); Portnoy’s Complaint (Roth… he sure did complain a lot); American Dreams (Studs Terkel). I’m kind of a compulsive reader in that I’ll read just about anything that’s lying around, from magazines to newspapers and cereal boxes.

I hope this doesn’t sound too dweeby, but a friend described me as “emotionally present,” and I thought that was very apt. I’m not a sad sack or a whiner, but I do listen to people. It’s kind of what I do for a living.

Ummm… with all the bright and available folks in this thread, your think somebody would think to link…
A Photo!

:smack:

(not that we need another photo thread…)

What the…darn you mister sarcastic smartie pants! Rodger doesn’t eat his own poo anyway.

drool

I have a major weakness for green eyes.

I’d flirt more overtly, but there’s not much point since travelling any further North or East would almost certainly make my testicles ascend and my digits drop off. I’m, uh, delicate. For a Canadian. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well hi there. Send me an e-mail sometime.

Maybe it’s best for your own safety that there is a continent between us

Is it really true that you can go swimming all year outside and there are no biting flies? My ex boss was from Victoria, and I want to know if he was lying to me, or if I should be really jealous.

Too bad you live in another country, you sound like a nice catch and the type of woman I make an effort to approach and talk to in my day to day life. We can still talk though, my email is in my profile. Can’t use IM though because i’m out of Bloomington for the week and don’t have broadband.

Oooh, how exciting! This is starting to feel like The Dating Game (but with me involved, it will probably turn out to be more like the dating game on Whose Line Is It Anyway!)

ArrMatey, did you see the bit where I said I play the piano very badly? My ragtime is really. . .ragged! So don’t expect too much. Although if you listen to me play and tell me how good it was, I know you’re lying but you get lots of points anyway! My favorites are Dill Pickles Rag and Wild Cherries. I used to almost be able to play Maple Leaf Rag, but my piano skills have gone way downhill since I quit taking lessons, and now I’m not even close. A few years ago, I could play Kitten on the Keys–now my kitten is crippled!

Weird is the new normal! I won’t complain about your film gear if you don’t complain about my. . .whatever my project of the week happens to be. A few weeks ago it was sock monkeys, next week I need to work on a coat, after that who knows?

A few more interesting things about me–I drive a stick shift, I can read upside down, and I can hear very high-pitched noises. I stay up too late so I can watch Headlines on the Tonight Show and reruns of the X-Files or Buffy. I just got How to be a Domestic Goddess, so I need to do lots of baking. I do a lot of things, but I’m not really good at anything.

I just noticed that I posted mine twice, this Internetting business is too complicated for me (I didn’t think it went through the first time, honest)

I’ve never dated a vegetarian, other people eating animals doesn’t bother me  as long as they aren’t one of those OMG you don’t eat meat!? Look I am eating a cute baby cow it’s funny! LOL! (my last ex thought that was hilarious ever time he did it)

You have an MGB right? Or did I imagine that?

Tsk shame, and you have such beautiful eyes too. We’ll have to get you to move.

I am too intimidated to flirt with anyone here. Shocking!

Check your email.

Likewise.

Score!

If anyone finds anyone they really like, report in.

As for me, I kind of sort of have a crush on someone, but I don’t see him in this thread.

:: blush :: Thank you. :slight_smile:
Some of my friends live North of 7, and cousins, and my father, and my aunt, and…
heck, I was born North of 7, so ne problemas. There’s better scenery North of 7 anyways.

‘Dog rescue’? Is that rescue performed by dogs, or for dogs, or what?

Ooooh- I’m going to be nosy and request a name, here!

What the hell …

I’m a 29 (soon to be 30) hetero female. About 5’5" with brown/auburn hair and hazel eyes. Not glamorous by any means, but I like to think I’m cute in my own way. I’m a jeans and T-shirts kind of girl who will get prettied up on occasion but prefers to be comfortable.

I have a journalism degree and a law license, but I’ve never practiced law a day in my life. I can’t. My first love is writing, so that’s what I do. For the last three years I’ve worked as a legal writer/editor for a publishing company in South Florida. I’d prefer to be in west central Florida with my family, but I had to go where the jobs are. Despite my complaints I really do enjoy my work.

I’ve always tended to be quiet around new people, but I’ve noticed that’s been happening less and less lately. Maybe that’s something that changes with age. (shrugs) I’m a big fan of silliness. Not constant weirdness, mind you, but just enough to be unpredictable. I love to make people laugh at the unusual – my big victory this past week was getting a cynical older coworker to do a spit-take in his coffee. The “cows playing poker” wallpaper on my work computer has gotten me more than a few odd looks. I’ve also been known to chair dance in my cubicle. Alas, I must dance alone, as the Friday morning dance party hasn’t caught on.

Interests … lets see. Comics. Animation. Movies. Reading. Photogaphy. Cooking. Fashion design. There’s lots of things I’d love to put on the list but haven’t gotten a chance to try yet, such as horseback riding, martial arts and community theater. I’m an avid reader, and I’m usually looked upon as strange because I read my books many times over. I also love to sew. I’ve actually gotten pretty good at it over the last five years. My Halloween costumes have become legendary in my office. One of these days I’ll throw together a really good one for a comic convention somewhere.

As far as music goes, I have a wide range of tastes. My CD collection includes Evanescence, Sarah McLachlan, Meredith Brooks, Loreena McKennitt, Garbage and various anime soundtracks, just to name a few. I think there’s a few classical and instrumental CDs in there somewhere, too. I’ll even listen to country on occasion when I drive. It just depends on what kind of mood I’m in.

Generally I’m very sweet, but I do have a temper sometimes. I guess that’s one of my faults. I’m also a perfectionist, at least when it comes to my work and my hobbies. I also overuse commas (see above for examples!), and, on preview, the word “also.”

So that’s me, basically. The makeup-shunning, jeans-wearing, chair-dancing, book-reading, case-writing, Evanescence-playing perfectionist geek in the freaky costume. If anyone can sum that up with less punctuation, I’m all ears.
