Blech.
Well, it’s a done deal. My daughter is all graduated and certified by the state with a Certificate of Achievement for passing the WASL. Passing the WASL is a requirement for graduation, and her graduating class was the first class to have this requirement.
It was a nice enough graduation, if a bit chilly because we were outside.
Later, we’re heading down the waterfront for dinner.
I feel kind of…old…all of a sudden.
Hm, I’m feeling slightly peckish. I should nibble on a cheese stick or something.
I just found out the cygnet died yesterday. I hadn’t seen the little guy when I came in this morning but I just got the chance now to ask the door guys if anything had happened.
I’m glad I got at least a couple of pictures of the little meeper, and I did get that AWESOME pic of Dad, but still, I’m sad. Poor 'lil guy.
Congrats to your daughter, Taters!
snowbunny. Sorry to hear the news.
I’ve weeded a bunch because it’s too wet to plant. I’m now going to try to clear out part of the tree lawn because I want to start planting it. My neighbor and I both hate lawns and lawn maintenance and have agreed that we want to plant it. I have a few perennials that can move there. I’m also going to throw in a few annuals. I figure we can have it all planted by the end of next summer. I’m going to move some daylilies out there ( I have plenty of extras) and some coneflowers and probably some coreopsis. Later I want to add catmint and sedum (I have some that needs to be moved) and several other items I’m forgetting. Maybe some phlox and peonies. I want it to look cottage garden-y. I should probably sit down and actually plan it out a bit.
Back to the garden. After that, it’ll be time to pick cherries. I’ll be making cherry jam after that. Woo hoo…
Hugs to all…especially Pie.

Doggies are home and clean. Scruffy isn’t scruffy - she’s as close to nekkid as a puppy can be. The groomer said Scruffster nipped at her to express her displeasure, but she didn’t break the skin. So there’s that. Anyway, I think I like this groomer - they’re way closer and lots cheaper, and they have a beautiful facility. So we’ll be going back.
And we’ve quit for the day. I won’t take any more pics till we’re done tomorrow, so you’ll just have to wonder what we’ve accomplished. I can feel the tension out there.
Tonight will be full chill mode. No chores, no inlaws, nothing we have to do - just chill. Yay!
THUNDERBOOMERS!!! Looks like I got the doggies home just in time - they’ve eaten and pooed so I don’t have to worry about venturing forth in the weather. Maybe it’ll cool things down a bit. Maybe.
We haven’t gotten any thunderboomers yet, but there’s a chance we might. Right now it looks like we’ll just get rain, though; the nastier stuff appears to be passing over folks south of us. Like you, Moooom. Hey, better you than me – it’s a lot easier to not have to deal with Rusty freaking out!
about the cygnet, snowbunny. I didn’t realize they were so fragile. The swans that live in the little pond between the two halves of Route 50 just at the east end of the Bay Bridge seem to have several thriving cygnets each year. I wonder why yours had so much trouble this year?
We have had an exceedingly dull and boring day. I’m trying to think if there was a highlight, and I’m coming up blank. Not that I’m complaining, mind you! A nice dull and boring day is always welcome. And the work I’ve been doing certainly hasn’t done anything to make my day more interesting – listening to congress[del]idiots[/del]people blather on is highly conductive to making me want to take a nap. If only it didn’t pay so darned well!
about the cygnet snowbunny.
It’s rainin’! YAY!!!
We did not go eat at IHOP. As a matter of fact, we didn’t eat anything cause we’re still full from this mornin’s breakfast pigout. Of course this means we shall have to go to IHOP soon cause ol’ y’all know who still wants to go, just not today.
And that’s the news from da cave.
Well. Looks like I’m single again. And so it goes…
Smarty is that a good thing or a bad thing? From the way you said that, I’m not sure…either way ((()))
MBG I hope Bear is ok!!! Please post with updates when you know. (MBG has a thread in GQ about a kitty eye problem. I’m too lazy to link to it right now, you can find it for yourself.)
Sorry about the cygnet, Snowbunny!!
Went for a walk down the street for ice cream at a walk up window place that I’d never been. The portion size was HUGE. Hawkeyeop and I shared a large and we still had much left to put in the freezer when we got home. I was just going to get a kiddie cone, but he said “no, get a large and we’ll share.” or something to that effect. Holy cow, we could have shared a small.
Sorry to hear that, Smartie. Hope it’s for the best. Hugs.
I haven’t had pancakes for breakfast in ages. Maybe soon.
::waves at mousie::
It’s not terribly hot here today (although it seemed pretty warm earlier when I was out running errands). It’s supposed to hit 87 tomorrow, though. I’m guessing I’ll be working indoors in the middle of the day. I’m thinking I’ll get up early to garden.
I’ve had dinner (pita with refried beans, cheese, ham, lettuce, cucumber and tomato) and am going to have a bit of ice cream, and then it’s off to pit (NOP) cherries. Although I’m sure I’ll be wanting to pit them by the time I’m done.
Depending on how long it takes, I’ll make cherry jam tonight; if not, first thing tomorrow.
Looks like there are enough cherries to make about 3 batches of jam. That’s not counting the large number that are hanging over the neighbor’s fence. That’s more than I’ve ever made. I’ll probably freeze some so that I can have them with oatmeal and put them in other stuff later. I’m thinking a lot of people are getting cherry jam for Christmas.
Off to get armed for pitting…

Why do cygnets have to die?
I am home from work (7 hours of phoning people for Monday’s surgical list). It went ok.
Daughter and TH are going to Boston to for orientation at BU for daughter. TH has not seen the campus yet.
I came home from work and went straight to the grocery, stopping only to change out of my scrubs and eat a sammich. I then did some yard work (planted 5 more of the baby transplants–17 transplants is a lot). Now I am showered and clean and tired.
I am debating whether to go to the Father’s Day thingy at my MILs. I like my FIL, but I feel very weird about going, seeing as how we’re supposed to not be together. We are the only ones who know this, as yet. We seemed to have stalled, again. Not sure what to do because there is no reason to upset the kids if true separation is not imminent. Then again, this leaves me with shit like this: going to a gathering I’d rather not go to, but feel obligated to (and I also don’t like being thought badly of–it’s nothing to do with my FIL [my not going, that is], it’s about me not belonging there [and not wanting to belong, either]).
anyone got any sage words of advice for that one?
I miss Hazel already. Stoopit immigrant policy.
But she’s still going to be posting, right? Hopefully soon, right? Just checking.
yes, but she’ll be part of the night crew. I’ve already forgotten if Korea is a day ahead or behind us. Chicago was friendlier just knowing she was there, somewhere, that’s all…

The sun finally made an appearance today and it turned out to be beautiful day, not too hot, not too cold.
We took our family, the daughter’s friend from Missouri, my mother and MIL to dinner at a very nice restaurant on the waterfront. When we got the bill, we looked like this:
We gulped and paid and agreed that our daughter deserved something this nice. To be frank, I wasn’t really all that impressed with my meal, but it just means I probably won’t go back there. I don’t mind (too much) paying good money, but I want to be at least impressed by the meal. All I can say is I liked the green beans the most. Doesn’t say much does it.
Oh, hubby wants to WoW it up. Laters. Hugs and smooches. Thanks for the congrats for our daughter. I’ve passed them on to her.
Did Spud graduate? Did I miss something (probably)? Congrats, Taters!
And some green beans can be really, really good…
I just checked; right now Korea is 12 hours ahead of Chicago. When we go off DST, it’ll be 13 hours ahead. In other words, totally night crew.
Oh, wait. I’m usually night crew myself. Why am I complaining?
Congrats to the Spud on graduating! Does this make her a full-fledged Tater now?
How you doin’?
{{{SmartyPants}}}
Well, I took a nap and then spent the rest of the evening reconciling bank accounts. At least I’m finally done!!!
Home tired a little dizzy. Thunderboomers waaaaayyyyy off in the distance.

Sorry about the cygnet, snowbunny.
Yay for destitched and groomed doggies!
