that give you no fucking idea what the thread is about?
Because then it’s like a gift, don’t ask! Who knows what could be inside? A sparkling gem? A piece of dog shit? Good god! The an-ti-ccccccc-i-pation…
They’re not doing it to annoy you. They’re just stupid.
Say it!
It’s so obvious that I’m surprised you asked. Most people do it because
Chessic Sense, with that quote design and construction, you are my faithful handyman…
I have to say, this thread is not what I expected, and I’m disappointed.
Two words: Sequential Threads.
A title like “It’s About Time” or “Now that I’m 40 I need to…” are the combos that keep on giving.
For the same reason people email me with “no subject” in the subject line, or a phrase that doesn’t describe the subject of the email. People don’t stop to think how the data will be used in the future.
Yeah from now on there should be a rule:
SHOW US YOUR TITLES!
Not all book titles tell you what they are about.
Report it as non-descriptive thread title. Mods will fix it.
Because if they actually accurately described the thread in the title no one would read it.
They do it for one reason and one reason only…
Just. To. Piss. You. Off.
(My job here is done.)
Or to be more practical: because coming up with a good title is HARD.
Or y’know… uh… [insert something funny here]
sorry brain conked out
IDK
Yeah, the worst is when a title is half a thought that trails off with ellipsis points.
to make people click on the thread who are curious to know what the thread is about
Nah, it’s to make people use the mouseover, only if the first paragraph doesn’t make the thread subject clear do we have to click.
Worst of all are the threads so boring one can’t remember what they are about so have to repeat mouseover/clicking every time they appear.
Creative people devote goodly amount of time coming up with great titles for their work but not necessarily the most descriptive (I say, for visual works, “Untitled” is always safe and trouble free… and will never come back to bite you; obviously won’t work for thread titles). If all titles must be accurately descriptive period and there’s no room for play… that’s shutting down of a portion of creativity process in thread creating. Obviously not everyone will always be successful but it all adds to the fun of checking out someone’s thread and participating for me.
