Well, what I came in to say Khadaji just said… and probably much better.
I don’t remember BarnOwl being anything unpleasant before and it sure sounds like he was just having a bad time of it for reasons we’re not required to know. A number of us, BarnOwl included, have made some effort to let friend Quasimodem know not to take it personal, that it was something else talking entirely. I think he’s okay with that so, strange as it was, it would appear everyone’s back on solid ground now.

He didn’t apologize (publicly) until after I had made that post. By the way, an “honest mistake” is a little different than “batshit tirade”, but whatever, his willingness to do so shows he’s not completely out of it, and that’s all I really wanted from this.

No, but this is a community and when we see something that bothers us we should be allowed to both talk about it and ask questions. I for one am very glad that we got to see the resolution to this and didn’t have it just get shushed down, because the result is that I see that BarnOwl was having some sort of bad day possibly related to medication or lack of sleep or whatever and that he’s since realized that Quasi was joking and has apologized, etc. Had I not seen that, I would just be sitting here still thinking “wow, that guy BarnOwl is a total nutjob” and would probably skip future posts by him etc etc etc. As it is the situation is resolved and in the open. I think things like that are important in a community.
While that may be true, it becomes not the community’s business if the injured party requests them to back off. We don’t have a right to demand a person publicly apologize to another, even if they caused injury publicly. If both parties would rather settle it privately, THAT IS THEIR BUSINESS AND SOCIETY SHOULD BACK OFF!

I never demanded an apology and I don’t think that is community business. I disagree, however, that we shouldn’t be allowed to discuss a situation that happened publicly, especially if it caused a reaction from many people.

Excepting the fact that it is causing distress to the injured party, which was my point. This time, things weren’t mucked up because the community was asking what was going on, but that doesn’t mean that it always will turn out ok. Sometimes it is better to let the people settle things themselves, then ask after a time, “So, what was up with that, if you care to explain?”. Get what I’m saying? ETA: You didn’t demand a public apology, but Rigamarole was.
