This week’s **Entertainment ** has a brief note about Will Smith settling with a newspaper that had said he had praised Adolf Hitler. The story is illustrated with a picture of Smith which has the title Triumph of the Will Smith. I am curious to know how many SDMBers got the allusion. I would appreciate it if you would post a simple “Yes” or “No” so that I can get some idea of how successful its use was. Thank you.
Yes.

Yes (but I had to think about for a minute, and if you hadn’t pointed out that there was something to get, I’m not sure I would have).

Yup.
Yes. Is there some reason you thought it would be a tricky reference to catch?
Yes, but like Ultrafiller, I wouldn’t have thought about it enough (from a verbal description, at least) to get it without having been told there was something to get.

I think the “the” before “Will Smith” is a little jarring and would’ve made me think about it even if I hadn’t been given warning to do so.
But I think as printed it would work like that anyway - you’d see the headline, go “huh?”, then read the story, then get the headline.
No, but I thought it was a very clever allusion and I was hoping that it didn’t slip by too many readers. (Of course, the knowledge base of such things is probably much greater among SDMBers than the typical reader of Entertainmen****t.)
