For a lot of the irking population, it’s functionally Moanday, since we had yesterday off.
Dunno about the retiree population. ![]()
Canned clam chowder and a Nyquil LiquiCap for dinner.

I did get the haircut I was considering and a beard trim as well. My very humble barber gives me a discount because I ain’t got much hair left and allow him to do interesting things to my beard. Right now in honor of spring I went Scott Ian.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work.
: waves at Rio :
Hope HR gets you your old people drugs, red.
Bad enough I get stuck in a line of traffic behind someone who’s afraid to drive the speed limit, but along the way we passed blue flashy lights on the shoulder and wuss-driver had to slow all the way down to 20MPH - to get a good luck at the tow truck, I guess… Nothing like starting the day with idiocy.
We’re looking at mid-50s today, and mid-30s tomorrow. Possible snow on Firday. Stoopit weather.
At least I have work to do today. rah.
Happy Wednesday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 62 and partly N.O.S. for the day. I mentioned the storm that came through town Moanday night. It caused a lot of damage. Some folks may be without power up to two weeks! Lots of downed trees and power lines in addition to broken gas and water mains. Albeeeny has imposed a seven p.m. to seven a.m. curfew as crews are workin’ round the clock to remove debris, make repairs, etc. It’s a real mess out there! OYKW left a little bit ago for irk bein’ as he starts irk at seven. BTW his house is fine. It is just outside of the path the storm took.
No real big plans for the day except to go to the Pubic sto’ and the IGA in da burg for provisions. I may even go to the liberry as well. Dindin will be various leftovers as they need to get eaten. Fortunately, neither one of us minds leftovers.
OK, I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I must commence purtification so as to be presentable to the public.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Well, I’m up. Got my new below the waist wardrobe in the washer (5 pr. blue jeans, 3 cargo pants, and 1 ‘work’ pants). Old stuff will be going to Purple Heart when they call next.
Got the winter (heavy) comforter out of storage and took the lighter one to the dry cleaners for it’s annual cleaning. Need to get presentable here in a minute and do some bill paying and other financial stuff.
Sent a request late last night to a company regarding a tour of Stockholm/Copenhagen/Oslo this July. still waiting to hear back.
Outside of that, just another day in the N. Ali-bama paradise…
Happy Hump Day!
It’s a cloudy 48 degrees outside.
We’ll be riding out to college to get text books today. Going to cost a whopping $608. They will probably be unbound and printed on tissue paper.
Crazy cat, I threw a paper ball for him to chase and he ran into the cabinet.
Time to get up and get ready to go. Lunch will probably TacoHell for the kid and Sonic for me.
blurf
Went to lunch with a friend and had some terrific fish and chips. And its getting cold and windy. Other than that nothing much to report.
But do you play the guitar now ruble?
We apparently (crossed fingers) have the prescription issue fixed now. I’ll see when I stop again tonight. Things are slowly normalizing since the holidays and it kind of feels good. I’m getting back into the heritage scrapbooking in the studio for a spell and it’s fun to change gears creatively.
Home from the college. It was a little cheaper on the books since he got some used ones. He didn’t want used books but it saved a little money.
Lunch has been eaten, chili cheese dog from Sonic.
Now I need a nap.
I loved scoring used books when I was in college. I was lucky never to get stuck with the ones with every.single.line.highlighted.
And I don’t think I saved any of them. If the bookstore wouldn’t buy them back, Goodwill got them. Never have I wished I’d kept any of them.
Busy, busy day, learning the quirks of a new engineer - well, new to me. He’s actually pretty good and his thinking matches mine in a lot of cases. Time to unlearn some of the stupid stuff my last boss required done and relearn the right way.
You can tell at a glance these books are used. They are paperbacks, so the covers are curled on the edges. One is a little dirty looking around the edges. Usually the people working the bookstore ask if you want used or new, this time they just handed him the books without asking and he wasn’t paying attention.
I’m sure whoever gathered up the books thought they were doing him a favor. They don’t know that he is a bit germ phobic.
I swear that sometimes I don’t know where he came from.
**sari **- it’s obvious you just didn’t beat him enough when he was young.
**FCD **isn’t feeling well - he didn’t want supper and he’s napping. I had a bowl of cereal because I didn’t feel like cooking for 1. It’s just one of those nights… blech.
I’m going to watch the news and crochet. Tomorrow’s payday, so there’s that.
Da fridge has been foraged. I now have many, many clean little plastic containers back in the cabinet they reside in until they get filled and put back in da fridge. Go Me!
There are thousands of people without power, water, and gas all over town. Rain is predicted for Firday and Sattidy with cold temps to boot. I feel sorry for the people without and for the crews out workin’ desperately around the clock to restore services. So many huge trees fell (large oak trees mostly) and they have to be cleared out before stuff like power can be restored. It’s a real mess in Albeeeeeny right now.
Sari remind Sah-son that many grubby paws handle even new text books. People who probably didn’t wash their hands after they peed even.
You want me to send him over the edge Swampy?
I’ve known people worse than he is, but I don’t know where it comes from. Maybe FCM is right
Thing is, he wasn’t like that as a kid.
When we got hit by Hurricane Isabel all the areas around us lost power. My little neighborhood didn’t lose power at all. We were like a little island of calm in a sea of chaos. I had to go out to pet sit and it was a mess out there. It was an eerie feeling when I got outside my neighborhood, usually I was the only car on the road. Some of my clients/friends went without power for three weeks.
Sari nah. If I wanted to drive Sah-Son over the edge I’d tell him employees at Taco Hell don’t wash their hands after they pee.
Some folks may not get power for up to two weeks here. Just so sad. I just told a friend that she can stay here if she does not get power by tomorrow. Actually I told her to come tonight but she wants to wait and see. I reminded her that if necessary I can get people to nag her in force until she gives in.
Zo, you haf zee strange preoccupation mit der pee.
Tell me, vot did your mutter tell you about using der bath room? :dubious:
sari, I thought that hard copy textbooks were a thing of the past. A former supe and a former manager of mine, as well as a cousin, are in the textbook biz and their hard copy inventory has all but disappeared in the last five years.
When Rita hit a few years ago, my sister was out of power for three weeks. Three weeks of cold showers, charging her phone in the car, sleeping without AC and cooking on the grill.
The prescription mess is fixed. When I got home, I found a couple of car insurance ads in my mailbox. Given that my current company just raised my rates for being further past my last accident, dropping fifty miles a day from my commute and my car depreciating, I checked them out. I will check in with the agent tomorrow when I’m in my last town for a doctor’s appointment. If they don’t bargain a bit, I’m switching.
