Wonder Woman 1984

If they’re pulling from the comics (which they seem to be somewhat), Maxwell Lord has mind manipulation powers. Maybe they use that to somehow ‘Men in Black’ mindwipe everyone that’s seen her.

Or maybe they just ignore the inconvenient plot detail from a widely unliked movie (that I liked).

Gone already! I barely got home, and “removed for copyright violation”.

Fascinating. My understanding is that this was their (L’Orchestra Cinematique) cover and licensed by WB for use in the trailer. You can still catch it on Spotify: Blue Monday - Wonder Woman 1984 (Epic Version) - Single by L'Orchestra Cinematique | Spotify

One thing - it looks like WW is breaking handguns with her bare hands. How strong is she supposed to be?

It’s one thing to have her jump 40 feet in the air, deflect bullets, lasso lightning, but breaking guns is just too much. Who does she think she is - Superman?

In the first movie she threw a WWI tank, so, pretty strong.

As far back as the Golden Age, Wonder Woman was said to have “the strength of Hercules.” There have been a few retcons to her origin story since then, but except for a brief period in the 60s when she gave up her powers and went all Kung Fu, she’s always had superhuman strength.

I feel like that comment was tongue in cheek. Particularly given the litany of equally or more absurd things listed (lasso lighting).

Oh, I think they came to that realization with Aquaman…sigh

There are others out there…

Better.

*What are Diana’s advantages? It’s the one everyone knows. Her combat abilities. She is “the greatest melee fighter in the world” according to Batman. Also according to Batman, because of this, her reflexes outmatch Clark’s. Her other advantages are the magical nature of both her abilities and her weaponry. Which means she can wound or kill Clark with them.

This of course means that we could see two different outcomes with two different types of battles. A battle to just see who would “go down” first. Wonder Woman would lose this type of battle most of the time because in most situations, because Clark’s invulnerability means he would ultimately last longer.

Now in a fight to the death? Wonder Woman would likely take the win. Her weaponry and combat skill, and her being more likely to kill is her edge here. Even Batman has stated that.*

From here.

For the most part, yes.

But having her have that much strength just tends to make her as ridiculously invulnerable as Supes, Being able to break guns with her hands means her skin is tougher than steel (the reaction has to go somewhere, or she’d just force the gun parts into her hand), which means she can’t get cuts, at least under normal fighting.

I love the character and the movie, but I’m the weird duck that wants my superheroes to at least pretend to acknowledge real world physics.

She dodges and deflects bullets and isn’t bullet proof. So there is a point between break steel guns and being bullet/sword proof. That must be her sweet spot on the tough skin scale. But once you bring too much physics into play, so much comic book stuff breaks down anyway.

In Justice League, Superman beat her but she put up a decent fight. So, not as strong/invulnerable as Supes, but she’s in the conversation.

I get what you’re saying about the physics of being able to crush steel vs. vulnerability to bullets, but maybe her skin lacks tensile strength? So that the impact of a bullet forces her skin apart and is then able to penetrate with the shockwave. Or something.

Of course, that raises the question as to why she’s engaging in all that acrobatics when fighting the guards in the White House as opposed to just walking through the place and brushing them aside with all the concern of an elephant treading through a field of dandelions.

That was the weakest part of the first movie - if she has literal god-like powers, why was she losing? Why was it taking so long for her to defeat the bad guy?

Yes, she was learning her skills, but it seemed a bit too much.

We’re bookended by lameness.

FTW

I admit being disappointed that Capricorn Two went straight to video with the characters played by James Brolin and Elliot Gould recast with Frank Stallone and Eddie Deezen.

This one is still up.
