Oh, the injustice of it all. I really thought the Giants were good enough to take down the Mets. I was hoping the Athletics would overcome the Yankees, guess we should have had my Angels playing them, since the Angels are the only team to have a winning record again the Yankees in the last 4 seasons.
The reason I don’t want to see a subway series is because it won’t be good for baseball. The best game for baseball as a sport is now St Louis vs Seattle. This would instill an excitement in most people. My theory is that Americans basically like to play fair. We don’t like to see someone win over and over ([hijack of my own post] this is one of the reason’s the olympics don’t have as many viewers as it could, Americans get tired of US athletics wipping the world [/hijack]). We are taught from childhood to share and play fair and that everyone deserves a chance to win. So when one team dominates, we don’t want to watch. I don’t even think the Mets would be good since people now want another city to have the honor of winning the World Series.
So, for the love of the game, I will now change my prediction to St Louis over Seattle in 7.
Hey, I have gone to games and had the team I’m rooting for win, so it isn’t my fault. We need to find that guy in the stands who “never goes to a game where they win,” it’s his/her fault. Obviously it couldn’t be those 9 guys on the field.
That’s right! It was deb’s fault! Or maybe Satan’s. He’s the first one to predict a Subway Series. (It’s possible, but very unlikely, for Seattle to win two games in New York, but I ain’t gonna bet that way.)
I’m anticipating that the Yankees will win tonight, precipitating the first subway World Series in my lifetime.
At the risk of invoking Satan’s ire, catcalls, bile and vitriol, I pick the Mets in either 6 or 7. Partly because I’m a Mets fan all the way, but also partly because I honestly think the Mets looked better than the Yankees in their post-season performances. The Mets appear pumped, primed and eager. The Yanks look old, tired and a little abashed at having managed to achieve a 3 - 2 lead in the ALCS.
Considering what a poor handicapper I obviously am, I’m not gonna make a prediction at all.
I will say, however, that I hope the Mets win. I’m tired of seeing the Yankees take it every year. (I hate the Yankees the way some football fans hate my Cowboys.)
The best years in baseball were from 1979 (Pirates) to 1992 (Blue Jays). In 14 years, there were 13 winners. (Los Angeles won in '81 and '88.)
The last NY-NY Series was 1956, between the Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Yankees won.
The history of the World Series can be found here.
