That does match what I do remember how it was used in the old country, it can be very insulting unless you do know very well the one that you are launching the word at. Don’t fret…my wife is white as the new fallen snow (German/Irish ancestry, 3rd generation Americans) and my kids speak zero Spanish.
You pronounce it pen-day-ho, depending on how you pronounce English phonetically. There is probably a Youtube video or some such where you can hear the term used, since, basically, it’s one of the most used curse or swear words, at least in my own circles and when I’m back home in the old neighborhood. Depending on who you are saying it to and how you say it will determine whether the knives come out or if your buddy says something equally rude but well meant back at you.

Well, I was going for colorful at least. Spanish is funny, since depending on the region swear or curse words change. I’m from Sonora originally, and my family pretty much lives in Arizona and Sonora still, so pretty much the same as Southern California. Other regions there are differences, especially other Spanish speaking countries (and Spain of course is a whole 'nother thing).
IMHO, Spanish is THE best language to curse in though…much more colorful than English. The only problem is, a lot of the really juicy swear words are known now in the US, so you have to be careful. Even if someone doesn’t know exactly what you are saying, they know they are being insulted…and in a lot of cases, a loud tu madre! or Chinga madre! will get a raised eyebrow these days. Gone are the days when you could say such in a mild, happy voice and have people smile back at you as if nothing were wrong.

Have you noticed that Trump and certain other morons (such as the OP) don’t gripe about immigrant populations from Germany or England? They’re hung up on people they can visually decide “aren’t really Americans” or “don’t really belong in America” no matter how many generations the target’s family has been in the US, and sometimes the target’s family has been in the US longer than the griper’s.
Give Trump credit for one thing. Many GOP politicians deliberately pander to the same racism that Trump does, but they use codes (subtleties or indirections) so they can disclaim. Trump is willing to address the GOP base on its own level.
This is why I’m rooting for the impossible November: Sanders -vs- Trump! Many progressives view Hillary as a flawed imitation of a liberal. And Bush and the other goblins are only a pale reflection of the fears and disgusts driving the right-wing. Why not give the American electorate the choice it really wants?
