When I was employed and worried about meeting deadlines, I chose not to subrscribe. I’m fairly new at this business, and there’s already enough to distract me on the net. I was happy to lurk.
When I was unemployed, I needed every red cent I could get my grubby fingers on. I was happy to lurk.
Now that I have this new job with even less forgiving deadlines, the dope goes free-to-post.

I subscribed for the first year, but let my membership lapse because I was a poor, procrastinating student. Besides, I was always more of a lurker than a poster–no one will remember me–and couldn’t convince myself that the subscription fee was justifiable.
To (re)introduce myself:
Male, 36 years old. Single. No kids. One cat.
Memphis, Tennessee (used to live in Florida)
Art Historian (and gainfully employed as such, believe it or not).
Political views: pretty far to the left, though more of an anarcho-syndicalist nature than Marxist.
And I’m a hopeless Europhile regarding most topics–whether it’s history, travel, film, cuisine, art, sports, or what have you. I just hope I don’t come across as “that guy” who’s backpacked through Europe once and now thinks everything European is somehow inherently superior to anything in the U.S.
No, really, I’ve always felt that way (and I’ve done several trips to Europe…and only one of them was a “backpacking” trip).

What I don’t get, and maybe some of you can answer this, is how did you all find out about the free posting so fast? Been lurking the whole time or was there a mass mailing? The change just went into affect and it seems like you all came back lickitty split!
