It was 8° when I let Higgs out - she didn’t linger!
Our garage door won’t be repaired till Saturday - apparently when we had the spring replaced eons ago, the guy chose one that was too small, so we need 2 new springs, and while we’re at it, we’re putting in a new opener also. Poor **FCD **had to get up to let me out and close the garage - when it’s open, it’s up too high for me to reach. Apart from Roxy, I’m the shortest one in the house, and I’m not all that short!!
(unless I’ve started the old-lady-shrinkage…)
Bottom line - it’s freekin’ cold out and I’m in the office again. Happy Thursday and Happy Last Day of January!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 33 Amurrkin out and cloudy (dark) with a predicted high of 57 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I feel somewhat better this mornin’ and far less the snot machine I was yestiddy. Still I foresee slug like existence pretty much for the day. Majik Intartoobz pizza is on the menu for sup just cause.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day. Rah.
It’s friggin cold outside, 3 degrees feels like -9.
It’s supposed to be N.O.S. with a high of 21.
I know a bunch of y’all are colder than that, my sympathies.
Poor Adam spent a good chunk of time outside last night. My son put him out and then fell asleep.
I called him from the back door, then called him from the front door. No Adam. Then my son got up, checked the back, no Adam, checked the front and there he was.
I don’t have to go out and I won’t.
We need groceries, but I am trying to hold off til the ‘heat wave’ on Saturday.
Stuff to do today. Yesterday was bill paying day and I didn’t get that done. We still haven’t done Ripple’s nails this week, and I’m down to my last pair of clean pants.
Morning all. A balmy 21F in N. Ali-bama, supposed to reach near 50F by the afternoon. Need to do some banking and I’m preparing a shopping list for the Great February Stockup, which will probably be accomplished today.
swampy, take care and get well.
[del]shorty[/del] umm, I mean FCM, garage door openers are one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, IMHO. Hope it gets fixed soon.
Now off to forage for edibles left in the refrigerator.
Still below here, as in 25 below. I’m working from home again, but I’m going stir crazy. I’m planning a trip to Walgreens later just to get out of the house.
This morning, just before I left work, it was -21 and felt like -38. By Saturday, it’ll be above freezing… go home Mother Nature, you’re drunk.
I’m back at the office today… well, I actually at the assembly floor. I needed some pictures and to ask some questions to move forward with this manual. The shop is heated, but it’s a big old warehouse-type building and it’s cold. Not like it is outside, but definitely not the most pleasant working environment. But this is where I need to be to get my work done and I’ll be here all day.
Romeo is taking Romeo Jr. to day care when he leaves for work and dropping Juliet Jr. off with my sister-in-law. I just want to be at home, wrapped up in my flannel jammies, on my flannel sheet, under my by warm comforter… all of which have snowflakes on them, btw. I still love my snowflakes.
The current forecast says 95%+ chance of rain. I don’t remember rain usually being so white and fluffy
Even a hint of the ‘s’ word gets people into panic stations here, unpredicted ‘s’ word could be nasty, even just an inch. I was going to nip to the shops, but I don’t think driving’d be a great plan.
As of now all the pipes have survived the temps; we kept the house a little warmer than usual to play it safe this year. Other that its laundry time and thinking about some mac-n-cheese made with cream of bacon soup for dinner.
Not kidding about the chaos- snow now up to 2", and the entire town is gridlocked. I just walked up to the fruit 'n veggie place up the road to get milk, and there’s cars and buses just left parked in random places in the road. If I had driven to the shop, I wouldn’t have been able to get back.
Oh, and the guys in the shop were messing about with alexa, which is still claiming we’re due some ‘light rain’, and saying there is no snow forecast. Oops.
Wonder if Uni will be off tomorrow…
Also- I just discovered there’s another kid living in the house- not in my flat, I might add, but I’ve been here over a year, seen flat 4’s kid loads, but there’s a girl in flat 1 as well. Huh.
Reached a milestone yesterday. Wore when I walked out of irk. Took them off partway home (all of 6-7 miles), but still! Also, didn’t put my headlights on at all.
Reached another milestone this moaning, I’m in the 5-digit count poster club!
Irking from home today since 1) boss is in Seattle & 2) it’s frigid out (3° this moaning). We use WebEx for conf calls; when it called me, the caller ID displayed “Florida Concrete Masonry Education Council”. :dubious:
One of our pipes froze a little yesterday. It is a pipe that feeds cold water to the toilet and sink in the basement bathroom. I went to flush yesterday, and the tank didn’t refill. After checking the usual suspects (all valves were open, all toilet parts appeared in order) I checked to see if I got cold water in the sink. Nope. That bathroom is right by where the water comes into the house, and the rest of the house had water, so I figured it must have been somewhere above the ceiling of the bathroom or behind the wall. So I craned up the space heater, turned on the dryer and vented it into the basement, and stood on a stool with a hair dryer blowing over the bathroom ceiling. I also drilled a hole in the paneling that is the inner wall of the bathroom by the pipe and had Juliet Jr. blow hot air into that hole with another hair dryer. We got the pipe thawed… now I have a hole in my wall, though. Oh well, I guess I’m buying a wall mirror for the basement bathroom!
That faucet is on a trickle for the next day or so… I hate wasting water!
When we first got this place I had issues like that for the shower/tub so I installed a small hatch in the kitchen ceiling below the pipes. Now, come weather like this, I just open the hatch door and let the air circulate. Problem solved with a little cheap wood and a couple hours.
Tie a rope onto the handle (or something) inside to pull on.
(ingineers )
Well, our unseasonally warm weather is about over, according to TWPTB, and we’re due for some almost snow next week, at which time the entire Willamette Valley will grind to a halt. It won’t last too long though, it never does. However, I may need to go to the sto and get some eggs for french toast. I’ve already bought massive (for us) supplies of TP and beer. Actually cider, 'cause we’re librul snobs. We need salsa verde and canola oil, and one other thing I can’t remember, anyway.
Yesterday it was so nice out that we walked over to the food cart pod for lunch. I had a Dungeness crab and shrimp po-boy and Wifey had corn dogs. (she lurves corn dogs) I ate the leftover tater tots for brekkie. The boys helped.
Yeah, when I replaced the faucets in the shower I built a door in the wall behind that faced into the area under the stairs. Wifey thought I was being ‘silly’ (She often does) She found out later that I wasn’t. I also built a door into the wall under the main breaker box in the pantry.
Banking and Grocery shopping completed, temps in the 40’s but not that uncomfortable, but nothing much planned for the balance of the day.
Nut, sounds like your part of England reacts a lot like N. Ali-bama when it snows. Mainly by being stupid (I swear, snowfall decreases I.Q. levels most everywhere it goes). Be safe.
Juliet, glad you were able to get a quick fix on the pipes. I had some leak last year and the effort (and cost) was not fun.
Flying up to Tokyo today. My family is there already.
My anxiety levels have finally decreased enough that I’m not dreading this trip. Traveling had been really upsetting me before. TW, Beta-chan and Didi are already there. My wife loves travel and fortunately my kids take after her.
