Yes, We Have No Bananas, An Ever Green MMP

As suspected, the sink drain turned into a huge PITA. The trap just disintegrated while I was taking the thing apart. Then, ah the joys of an old house! The pipe that the trap goes into in the wall is an odd size, somewhere between 1 1/2" and 1 1/4", so I had to cob job some BS to make it work.

And the asshole who installed the vanity (me) made it hard to get to the damn thing. When I installed the vanity, I didn’t have to do anything to that particular piece of pipe, I just built around it.

But I do have a functioning drain. And an air fryer.

I’ve asked this question before in various places and gotten resoundingly ignored, so I hope I’ll get an answer this time. What about the function of an air fryer distinguishes it from baking/broiling?

@BippityBoppityBoo, wanting to pick a nurse’s brain if it’s OK. I do have a history of strong reactions to flu shots (flu symptoms for several days, at least as bad as HAVING flu). I asked a nurse I know from church if she thought that might signal a potential for problems with COVID vaccines. She didn’t think so. What would you think on that?

Based on my limited useage, it’s faster and things like fries and wings and drumsticks crisp up better without requiring a pan of hot oil. Plus it’s one small appliance warming up instead of an oven heating up the kitchen - not an issue in the winter, but not at all pleasant in the summer.

I just finished carving up the spiral ham I bought the other day. I ended up with 5 packages for future meals plus a bag of cubed ham for a future bean soup. Meanwhile, I’ll use the bone and other bits of ham to make bean soup for tonight, answering that musical question: “What shall we have for supper?”

Apart form that, I’ve done nothing productive. As soon as I finished the online jigsaw puzzle I’m working on, I’m going to assume the recline position and work on my latest lap robe. I’m doing my best to use up the donated yarn in the least ugly way possible - not a simple task. But I need to get it done so I can complete that chapter of my life. I’ve decided any blankets/lap robes I make now will be donated to nursing homes and senior centers in this area.

It’s always alright to ask old nurses questions. The shortest answer is: flu vaccines often contained a weakened fragment of the causative virus and that, in some people, causes a pale imitation of the flu, which leaves the recipient protected from a full blown case of the flu (trust me, it just seems that what you got from the vaccine was as bad as what the flu would have been). The Covid vaccines in use in the US are fundamentally different in how they work then are most flu vaccines (especially past flu vaccines) and the three in use here don’t work that same way, so they aren’t engineered to give you a mini-version of Covid in order to protect you. It is all to do with spike proteins. So, while you may have a response to the Covid vaccine, it is a (welcome) response that you want and it is a sign that protection is being conferred. Unfortunately, women are significantly more likely to have a noticeable reaction-all to do with our hormones. In case you’d like more information, here’s a comprehensive NYT article that runs through it all. It is well worth the read.

Do go ahead and get vaccinated, even if you are a vigorous responder to vaccination it sure beats the alternative hands down, plus you are doing your family, friends and wider world a good deed as well. The NYT article makes several good suggestions about weathering it all, like scheduling your jab so you have a weekend off following it so you don’t have to be productive while brain-fogged or achy, Tylenol for post-jab discomfort is ok, etc.

I’m 71 and a female-I had, at most, a few brief episodes of vague wooziness post jab 2 (nothing post jab 1), with some maybe kinda sorta generalized fatigue for 2 days. Didn’t need Tylenol either time. Just tried to be aware of staying hydrated (to prevent hypovolemic hypotension) and figured out to let myself off the hook for not accomplishing much for two days. I had the Pfizer FWIW.

Next question? :smirk:

Mrs. L.A. called Apple Support, and together we got her phone reset. (I have iTunes, which we needed. Also the Apple lady viewed my computer to show me what to do.) She now has phone service, she’s chosen a ringtone and a message notification sound, and she’s learning how to use an iPhone.

Heh. I read that as: "They dislodged Mrs Magill this evening.“”
Ain’t dyslexia fun?

Not much to report today. Wifey wanted to go with Daughter and get her toes done this morning but couldn’t get in and so in frustration is busily cleaning things. I have just been given a lecture on cleaning my bathroom sink. Since getting my cataracts out and getting bionic eyes my close up vision is a bit blurry, so, even though I wiped my sink out with a paper towel Thorsday it was still a ‘petri dish’ according to old eagle eyes. #le sigh#

Maybe I’ll shower and dress and go muck about in the garage.

FCD needed a Peanut Buster Parfait, so we made the trek to DQ. As soon as we got back, I emptied the dishwasher and started the bean soup. The beans are in the sit-for-one-hour-in-hot-water phase and I’ve got timers set for when the hour is up and when I need to cut up the onion and ham. So I’ve accomplished something today.

Howdy Y’all! Been a bzzy day of cook and prep here at da cave but ‘tis all done. MOOOOOOM I’ve never had a problem preppin’ scalloped N.O.T. the day before bakin. I do parboil the N.O.T. Maybe that’s the secret? Also, I have been known to use boxed scalloped N.O.T. so I shall not judge. :man_judge:

swampy - I’ll mention the parboiling to my mom. I bet she just sliced up raw spuds.

BTW, I was just messaging with our original MMPer, Rue. It occurred to me that this series is approaching its 20th anniversary and I asked if he happened to remember when he started it, but he didn’t. I was searching and I think I may have found the pre-MMP post that eventually led to what we have today. I’ll do a little more research before sharing, perhaps as a future MMP.

I just added onions, ham bone, ham, and seasonings to the bean soup. In about half an hour or so, I’ll add the carrots and celery. Tonight’s supper will be yum!

As a newcomer here, can I ask “N.O.T.?” I’ve gathered they’re potatoes.

Not Our Taters, to differentiate from the poster known as Taters.
As if anybody would ever get them confused. It’s just one of our annoying charming little eccentricities.

I made a 3-pound meatloaf yesterday, so it’s sandwich leftovers for a few days, which ain’t a bad thing.

Been cleaning both vehicles over the past week (RV and SUV). Both were pretty piggy after a winter of neglect. The car really gets mossy, and I mean that literally. Every damned nook and crevice has to be detailed with a toothbrush to get the stuff off. I think that if Portland was suddenly and permanently depopulated, within about five years you’d never know that a city once existed here, as it would be completely overgrown. It’s like living in the tropics.

Yay for getting Mrs.LA’s phone up and running flyboy!

I got the little heathens’ craft set up, the laundry all done, took the recycling down the street to the center, cleaned out the recipe file,
took Nelson to the dog park for a quick romp and fixed smothered chicken, fried cabbage and cucumber salad for supper. Now for playtime in the studio.

I just did an hour and a bit on the treadmill while watching a Craig Ferguson standup special on Netflix. He’s hilarious!

Oh, and the bean soup was YUMMMMMMM!

But now it’s time to chill a bit before beddy-bye.

Evening all.

Finally worked up some ambition and went to 5 guys, missed my monthly stop there in March so I guess I can visit it twice in April…which is not good for me, the calorie count is high and their french fries should be considered an addictive substance by the FDA (YMMV). Stopped a the Dollar Store and grabbed a couple of 30 oz mugs to replace a couple I’ve broken (they are big and heavy and cost a buck each…great deal IMHO) and then at Big Lots for 2-Liter Pepsi for 0.99 each. Also wandered through the Pet Stop looking for dogs to pet, but none were around (I love dogs but I think I’ve been on my own too long to be a good caretaker for one).

And so I am fed, caffeinated, and waiting for the dishwasher to complete it’s cycle. Lawn was not mowed and with tomorrow being Easter it probably won’t be mowed until Wednesday.

VanGo, Bumba explained N.O.T., you might also see N.O.S., which is Not Our Sunny (a long-time Mumper) when you have a nice, bright day you want to tell us about.

flyboy, good news on the phone front.

OK, need to watch some basketball and then my weird Science Fiction cartoon (Final Space). All y’all take care.

Don’t know where else to ask this, but:
Which forum do “Ask The/AMA” threads go in? IMHO or MPSIMS?
Thank you.

TVCTPMO: “We haven’t crushed dogbutler’s soul this week, let’s send him to Door 69.”
Me: “Nice.”
TVCTPMO: “We put in the unheated loading trailer.”
Me: “brrrrrrrr”
Also I did have some effects from the #2 Moderna. It felt like a cross between “mild hangover” and “was at a Slayer moshpit with a bunch of SCA guys in full gear”

Especially when they need a barber.

I’d go for IMHO. YMMV IANAL TANSTAAFL

I cut the first log a bit too thick, but the second one I cut to the correct thickness, and they were nice and tender. I think I want a bit more vanilla. Also that was the end of the bottle. :frowning:

The recipe’s a keeper, and because I could add some food coloring, the logs are rolled into the sprinkles / chopped nuts / coconut flakes / whatever, they can be adapted to the appropriate holiday.

But what was I thinking? Working with powdered sugar (cream cheese icing) and sprinkles on the same day? I cleaned up yesterday afternoon and there’s still some places with a dusting of sugar and random sprinkles.

I am very productive when I’m avoiding paper work. Today should be homework and some paper organization.

Definitely not for kids! :open_mouth:

The nearest church wanted to make sure we all know it’s Easter, with a great series of bongs at 7:46. I’m not much for sleeping in, but just a week after the beginning of Daylight Savings Time, plus a streak of late nights, sleeping a bit later would have been nice.

Friend made something similar to refried beans, but with black beans, and pureed them. Didn’t look super appetizing, but hubby and I both liked it, and I’ll be getting the recipe. But hubby’s requested that I don’t puree all of them.

Hubby finished moving cables, vacuuming behind the television, etc., so the living room is close to normal level of chaos. Since I got tomatoes and lettuce today, and I made the filling some days ago, today’s taco lunch will be relatively pain free. We also have carrot cake and cookies, so we’re in good shape for desserts as well.

Guess that means I have no excuse not to do my German home work. Bummer.

Happy Easter!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 38 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 73 and N.O.S. for the day. Today will be large and in charge. I shall be over to the church house by eight this mornin’ to commence with settin’ up chairs and other stuff for the big outside Easter celebration at ten. Temp should be around 60 Amurrkin by ten o’clock and N.O.S. We’re doin’ outside cause we can have a bigger crowd (up to a hunnert) and can sing outside while masked. We did this last week and had a good group show up, so we sorta kinda even know what we’re doin’ this week. Anywho, there’s set up, deheathenization, and then take down to deal with today. Plus also, eight people for Easter feast at two o’clock this afternoon. OYKW will head back to da cave after deheathenization to deal with stuff on the home front. Like I said, big day ahead!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all! To those who celebrate, Happy Easter!

Morning, mumpers! Lovely and bright out there today, we are planning to get the incinerator out and burn stuff  Weather app says “Well, look on the bright side. At least is not cold as fuck outside” and promises me 10C/50F up to 13C/56F and mostly sunny. Looks good to me!

Plans for today are to do a workout this morning when I’ve finished my cup of tea, then possibly at some point tackle the ironing pile. Yes, it’s been there for a year 'cos there’s no point ironing stuff I wasn’t going to wear. Since I haven’t been to the office on campus, I don’t need fancy stuff, and I don’t bother ironing the vest tops that are in the usual weekly rotation. Since I’ve got some extra time off work, I thought it would be a good opportunity to get that sorted out.

Might even tidy out the drawers that said ironing normally lives in, because that would be a good thing to do. And I might go out for a walk later too, as it’s so nice out there. Not my day to make dinner either, that’s going to be curry from the freezer which is defrosting in the kitchen. Other than that, cat-fussing and book-reading is in my plan too.

Happy easter/Sunday everyone!
