Yet Aother Evangelical Christian Leader Bites The ... Dust

Oh, this is some funny shit! Claims he bought the crysta, but never used it. “Sorely tempted” to, but didn’t inhale, as it were. Oh, and he only got a message. That’s a fucking knee-slapper, that is. I know eight-year-old’s who could come up with better lies than that. Oh, the temptation must have been severe! Lessee what Jesus says:

“If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.” Matt. 5:29-30

Rev. Haggard, I think you know what you need to part with…

If he didn’t snort the meth, why should he have to cut off his nose?

That’s too obvious…

I can tell you are not a Christian. Every Christian knows the best way to massage a prostate is with a penis. Every Christian knows this and it is not sex. Sex requires a penis and a vagina.

Oh crap, a massage

This being the pit, I can say that indeed upon hearing the news, a certain track by Queen ran through my head.

And the further explanations… implying it’s not as “bad” to score meth as it would be to swing from the other side of the plate, are just delicious to behold.

newcrasher, you’d surely be welcomed in the MPSIMS thread on the same subject to bring in a voice-of-reason. But as things stand, here in the Pit is our place to vent our anger, and get our visceral reaction out of our chest, so **then ** we can discuss calmly elsewhere.
The preacher judged.
Now let him be judged.
How does that beam in the eye feel, Haggard? Not as good as when it was up your fundament, ain’t it?

Could’ve been worse, could’ve been a gay Asian massage:wink:

Yeah but come Wednesday morning the Republicans are still going to have miraculously won the elections. Shitstorm or no.

Well if you consider Diebold miraculous, then yeah.

Deus ex machina indeed.

Well somebody is going to be fucking with the machines AGAIN, but I don’t think its going to be god.

He moves in mysterious ways, my child…

I was also thinking of gerrymandering and Voter Vault.

Anyway it’s in the bag. They’ll weather the shitstorms quite nicely, thank you.

Nobody said miracles had to be nice.

Hardly a broad brush; I said “conservative Christians” over and over.

I understand him quite well; he’s scum. Bigoted scum or hypocritical bigoted scum is the only question. Either way, I don’t “love” scum.

The problem as I see it with your compassionate, tolerant version Christianity is that it’s unstable. Christianity is not compassionate or tolerant by nature, and is not necessary for those qualities. Over time, you tend to see that sort of Christian drift either towards secularism, or sucked further into Christianity and fundamentalist hatred. No matter what you do, the fundies will always be the heart of Christianity. You mean well I think, but trying to do good with Christianity is like trying to weave with a sledgehammer; it’s not the tool for the job.

That is just brillian!

Or brilliant, instead.

I will certainly agree that no one has done it particuarly well yet. But I respectfully disagree with you on my version of christianity being unstable. I would be interested in hearing how this kind of Christianity drifts toward secularism, out of curiosity as well as wanting to know what to watch out for.

I can’t be responsible for the fundies. No matter what happens, they will be around. I am sad for them, and often angry at them, and my great challenge is to vehemently disagree with them and still love them. I am not sure I am succeeding.

In other threads I have happily conceded that Christianity is not necessary for “goodness” or morality. And you are right about Christianity. We always jack it up. Any “-ity” or “-ism” is bound to fail, as soon as imperfect people like me get involved.

I do think if I ditch all the baggage that goes along with Christianity, and continue to humbly try to follow Jesus, I can acheive some measure of good. In fact I know I already am. If you want to open another thread, I would be glad to talk more about it.

James Dobson Speaks Softly

“A private life” makes it sound so discrete, and vaguely honorable, like it takes place in a secret garden, hidden from the eyes of man and God alike. Would there have been Unicorns?

Well, Dobson can’t risk coming right out (er) and talking frankly about allegations that “Ted had repeated carnal contact with the steely buns and throbbing manhood of a lustful sodomite who locked him in a steamy embrace” and all that. It might arouse his audience. For that matter, I guess I’d better cut out such talk myself before matt faints again.
