Question #1 - What’s the protocol for swearing in sigs? Is it not allowed at all? Allowed if you edit it with asterisks? Punishable by death?
Question #2 - If a poster is BANNED, can they still change their sigs, or is that revoked along with their posting privileges?
I’ve been wanting to change my sig, but the quote I wanted to use has a certain 7 letter word. Starts with “F”, rhymes with “clucking”. You know the one. Could I still use it if I changed it to F******, or would I have to make it something like *******, or <edited for content>?
Question 2’s just something that I’ve been wondering for awhile. I tried searching for both of them, but didn’t come up with anything. First person to answer correctly gets to imagine me being very happy about my question being answered, and a sincere “You rock.”
AFAIK there are no actual “rules” about cuss words in sigs, but it kind of depends on what the cuss word is. The various obscenities for genitals are generally verboten outside the Pit, as is the sort of serious cussing that involves damning people to Hell, etc. Racist epithets are never allowed.
But if you feel an urgent need to say “fucking” in your sig, well… [shrug] It kind of depends on the quote. Does it have “literary value”, or is it just random cussing for the sake of cussing?
Mainly just don’t be a jerk about it. And remember that a lot of folks are going to judge you by what’s in your sig, and a lot of folks have a problem with cussing outside the Pit.
Me, I’d use asterisks.
Being banned means you can’t post anything at all, because your user name has been locked out. If your user name is locked out, you can’t access your profile, either.
Thanks, Duck Duck Goose. You both rock AND roll for answering both my questions in one fell swoop.
The quote’s from the new issue of the Onion, so it isn’t too tasteless. I’ll probably take your advice and use asterisks. Anyway, thanks again.
