You get one free food for the rest of your life - What'll it be?

This is an interesting question. The foods I currently eat the most of (e.g. natural peanut butter) aren’t particularly bad for me, so I don’t gain a lot by making them free.

I’m kinda torn by pizza. I can make pizzas that are both healthy and yummy - at least, IMHO, which is the only one that counts, with respect to this question. OTOH, I miss being able to dive into a deep-dish pizza.

I think I’d pick either pancakes with butter and syrup, or sweet rolls - probably the latter. I’d eat a lot more of either one than I do right now if they had zero calories. I could see having a Cinnabon or something from Entenmann’s nearly every morning with my coffee if it wouldn’t add to my waistline, and I could see having pancakes for breakfast 2-3 times a week under the same scenario.

Oh, what the hey: I’ll go with the sweet rolls.

I came in here to say “booze” (whiskey if I have to be pinned down to one) before I even saw stoid’s answer. Especially since, like a few others, my first impulse was “sushi” and then I thought, “But that’s healthy anyway!”

It is not, however, cost-free, so if the OP were changed for money considerations, my answer would, too. But if $ is irrelevant, then … bring on the magic hooch.

Water.

Beer is what I was thinking of too. As long as it can still get me drunk. Even better yet, there should be a magical control for the drunkenness level, it would be even more awesome.

Nothing but beer for lunch and dinner.

My standard answer to this sort of question is always “sushi”, but that’s really kind of cheating, as sushi is kind of a “metafood” in that there are all sorts of different kinds of sushi.

The natural accompaniment to the dishes are included, yes? (I need my garlic bread!)
Spaghetti alla Bolognese
Looking at wikipedia for suggestions, the sauce will include:
veal, pancetta, onions, carrots, celery, tomato paste, meat broth, white wine, and, cream.
(basic sauce)
with a heavy covering of grated fresh parmesan

plus the extra ingredient only used for special occasions (different extra ingredient on different days)
pork sausage, white chicken, rabbit, goose liver
use both butter and olive oil for cooking the soffritto of small amounts of celery, carrot and onion.

Prosciutto, mortadella, or porcini fresh mushrooms added when in season

Accompanied with garlic bread.

Sure, Arnold, you’re good.

But the garlic bread possesses no magical properties. Nor would spaghetti with marinara sauce nor vermicelli Bolognese.
mmm

Sushi is allowed, Lightnin’
mmm

This would mean that ingesting any amount of water couldn’t hurt me, right?

All right, then, Make It So!

I’m not trying to get too cutesy with your rules Mean Mr. Mustard but could I get away with both sliced and pan fried potatoes and french fries. Most people wouldn’t consider them interchangeable. Could any variety of fried spud qualify so long as it’s limited to potato, hot oil and salt?

If sushi is allowed, what about dim sum?

Man, I could do some serious damage to a never ending healthy for me plate of ha gow, chiu chow dumplings and bbq short ribs!

Seems like this should be a poll with the options being

  1. Cheese
  2. Other

I pick cheese.

Pizza, pizza, pizza!

Deep dish today, thin crust tomorrow, Chicago style, New York style, sausage, pepperoni, bacon, olives, tomato slices, maybe even some ham and pineapple now and then to shake things up. So many choices; how could I ever get tired of it?

And even if I did, so what? I’ll just eat salads for a few days, and before you know it I’ll be craving the 'za all over again.

So where do I sign up, mmm?

And for desert…pizza!

Most people picked some kind of food but I’m going with StG and choosing Coke. Expand to all sodas if possible?

I know I wouldn’t get tired of that because during my 5 years at a fast food restaurant, I drank soda almost every time I was there during every break and lunch period. I still love soda to this day

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

Pizza - as pointed out it is almost infinite in makings, crust from cracker thin to deep dish, sweet, through savory, almost anything can be used as a topping [think of all the posts on non US pizzas we have read over the years, and all the food porn pizza we have seen on tv]

And being diabetic, I really heavily limit my consumption to a few times a year, and one to two pieces depending on how it is made. I could murder me some pizza! I would probably end up with it 2 to 3 times a week.

Morel mushrooms

I am deeply ashamed to admit this (and I suppose it violates the rule of the OP – because technically it’s more than one food, or perhaps not really food at all] but… I have to go with a #1 meal at McDonald’s. A Big-Mac-fries-diet-Coke meal.

Sorry if that just made a bunch of people hurl.
