Afternoon all. The first Spring Soccer games are completed, I refereed a Girls 12U game (7-2) at 8:30am, substitute-coached a 14U Boys game (lost 11-2) and then after a short break, refereed a 12U boys game (4-3). So out of the house from 7:30-3:30 and subsisted on a bottle of Mountain Dew and a bag of White Cheddar Popcorn. Will fix something slightly more foody here in a short bit, just need to catch my breath.

Weather was clear and in the mid-50’s to low 60’s, but there was a constant wind blowing 8-10 mph and that kept the temperature down. Have the heat on in the house and that’s a nice feeling…if it doesn’t put me to sleep…

There are Waffle Houses fairly close to me, but haven’t been to one since I found out they don’t have French Fries (not a fan of Hash Browns). When I want a fairly cheap sit-down fix like that, I go to Huddle House here in N. Ali-bama.

Oopsie, from what I’ve seen of her, I like Lizzo too, but probably not enough to binge watch…but hope the rest of the episodes are just as good.

Cupcakes, just finishing re-reading “1635: The Eastern Front” as part of my gym routine (have to do something while pedaling and sweating in the sauna…). Doesn’t look like there’s any new releases the first half of 2022, so good time to catch up.

FCM, on long trips, AMTRAK will check your luggage and usually have a place in the cars for your big bags.

Dicey, hope Mom-unit is doing well with her new knee and I must admit, thinking of a part of Switzerland with no rain for months seems…odd…(haven’t been to Switzerland yet, outside of changing planes in Zurich).

I hear they can be found near the viaduct…

OK, need to head to the kitchen and get some edibles out and start ediblizing them. All y’all take care.

Did you read the afterword in 1637:The Coast of Chaos It’s on page 331, and is a tribute to Rick Boatright, who was an author in the series. Rick died recently, of pancreatic cancer. I no longer get our local paper, but his obit was there, and he grew up in our city, and I graduated high school in the same class. In fact, he was the first guy I ever dated, but after high school I didn’t see him. Even then he was into ham radio, which figures in the series.

Editing: I guess the quote feature didn’t kick in, this post is for The Stainless Steel Rat

Happy Saturday!

Was a chilly, drizzly, morning at the park. I didn’t ask if Barky was coming because of the drizzle. Barky and her sister are doodles that collect mud.
I think I will have to be the one to say something. I read a couple of articles last night about it, and it fits. Barky was a rescue from a puppy mill, and so, she was never socialized. She is rather lucky to be alive, because she was turned over to a shelter. Usually, the breeder took the dogs out and shot them when they were no longer useful. I printed out some of the articles, and maybe I can help Barky’s mom with a plan to get her to stop barking.
And no MetalMouse, I think she has no clue people are leaving because of her.

I came home, took a hot bath, and then a short nap. When I came downstairs, I saw that it was snowing! And hail! It didn’t last long, as it was 45 degrees outside. The temp is steadily dropping though, and it will be in the low 30s by morning. The next few mornings after will be in the low 20s.
YUK!
I have a feeling I may be skipping the park for a few days as it’s supposed to be windy as well.
This is what I get for packing my toe warmers away.

We have Waffle House up here. I think there are two nearby. They aren’t bad, but not my first choice.
When I lived in the armpit, we went to
SipAndBiteDiner
if we were hanging in Fell’s Point, or to The Double T if we were elsewhere.

I can’t remember if Xios diner in Fell’s Point was open all night, but it was a crazy place to go. It was a diner attached to a bar, and the bar was always entertaining. One night when we were there, there were three couples that had obviously come from a wedding reception. The guys had on tuxes, and the women had matching gowns. One of the women had to be 9 months pregnant, and they were having a good time out on the dance floor. Lots of variations of dirty dancing, shag dancing, and conga lines. My mother had brought a cow-irker with her, a young and rather naive woman from Botswana, and I didn’t know what was more fun to watch, the dancers or her face. She was a bit shocked and horrified at first.

The big black and white cat has been hanging around here. He jumped up on the window ledge again, and this time Ripple and Echo saw him. They were going off on the inside, while he was meowing from the outside, until he jumped down and wandered off. I wonder if he wanted to get in out of the snow and hail. I figured out he is jumping from the gate to the ledge, which is still a pretty good leap. I’m assuming it’s a he because of how broad his face is.
I guess we’ll start putting out food again.

Ooopsie, I have had days, weeks, like that. Pissed off at the world but I couldn’t tell you why.

I still wear patchouli once in a while. A ex cow-irker told me I smelled like his grandmother.
No, I didn’t smack him.

Sorry for your friend BooFae

Dicey, my mother has had both knees replaced. Tell your mom, keep moving. My mother was very active after her first knee was done; her then bf wouldn’t let her sit around. The second one, she wasn’t so active and it still bothers her.

My right knee is killing me. It’s not the one I fell on, but it probably got abused while I was favoring the other one. It wakes me up at night, and I have to shift around to find a comfortable position.

Congrats to Nellie daughter and hubs on new house.

We’ve been there many times - in fact, the house where my dad grew up is 2 doors away! We affectionately call it Slurp and Burp!

We got a wee bit of hail and a few spits of rain, but it’s moved on, leaving a chill behind. And we’ve worked out the details for next weekend. We’ll spend Firday night aboard and head out early on Sat. FCD said it was a 60 mile trip, but I was sure it was less, so I got out the chart pack. It’s closer to 35 miles, so less than 7 hours, assuming no strong currents. So yay.

Howdy Y’all! Been a day of sloth and uselessness as predicted. We decided on a bit more haute cuisine than Waffle House. We went to Sonny’s instead. OYKW pigged out on smoked brisket and I pigged out on smoked chikin. YUM! We have a red flag fire alert due to dry conditions and low humidity. So, natch, the idiot behind us is burnin’ limbs. :rage:

metal mouse, I used to stop at a Huddle House in Scottsville, KY just about an hour north of the last town that I lived in. I was always on the way home from Indiana and would eat supper there before I got home. It closed and is home to another restaurant now.

Where I live now is about 2.5 miles from one WH and 3 miles from the other here in town.

I picked up my Marketplace buy (it was about 20 minutes from home) and took Nelson with me. It was a really good deal, since the stamps had never been used (the labels haven’t even been put on them yet). Swung through the dog park on the way home. We got to visit with Winky (elderly, feisty pomeranian) and Cotton’s (shi tzu) dad and get some Cotton love. Nelson also got to play with a bunch of other small puppers, given the nice day outside.

Headed to the cheap Chinese down the street for House Special Soup and some chicken wings for supper. Nelson got one wing, sans breading and bone.

So Aunt Mary died this morning. :frowning: I called my parents to let them know.
And speaking of this week’s MMP theme:
Mom: “Do we have your phone number?”
Dad: “uhh…it pops up on the cell phone.”
People more technologically savy than dogmom:

  • The Amish
  • Luddites
  • Homo neanderthalensis

I’m sorry about your friend, boofae.

:open_mouth:
Which reminds me, Rod the Roomba needs a new battery

12 years ago, when I was helping to ease my Dad’s pain as he lingered in his final days, my brother realized that I hadn’t left my parents’ house in about a week, and he ordered me to get out for a while. Where was the first place I went? Waffle House. I’ve always liked their food, and we didn’t have them where I lived.

I sat there and ate a million calories worth of waffles, eggs, sausages and hash browns, and just breathed.

It sounds stupid, but Waffle House became a place of comfort and refuge that day, and it’s maintained a special place in my heart since then.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 11C/52F outside and cloudy. Weather app quite rightly says “Oh good. It’s super fucking cloudy outside”. Yesterday was a fun day in the end, we went to get lunch at the Good Chinese place then blokie went to get a haircut and I mooched round the book shop. Met him in the pub later, and we had a few beers before heading home. I’d already made chilli before we went out so just needed to heat that up and cook some rice so dinner was quick and easy.

I have fed the cats, done the litter trays, changed the bedding and put it in the wash, and had a bath. Lunch will be from a new place down the street so possibly burger and wings…then I plan to do nothing else for the rest of the day. Slothage is perfect for Sundays!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 43 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 and N.O.S. for the day. The big plan of the day is deheathenization. I have no duty today so I can plop down in a pew and just watch except durin’ the parts where we do participatory things. I bought one of those pizza kits from the Pubic Sto’ so that will be N.O.L. today. It will be either good or bad the way I see it. Any other need to feed will be via forage. Much sloth and uselessness is in store.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Countdown to the boat move has begun. It’ll go in the water on Weds and FCD wants to be there for the splash. He’ll take the electronics back and hook them all up, along with a few other things - pretty much whatever he can fit in his car. I expect he’ll be gone all day.

Today, I’ll gather things from around the house that can go with us - towels, scrub rags, bedding, and whatever else is on the list that I don’t have to buy. Tomorrow, I’ll go to WalMart and buy whatever else is needed - mostly cleaning products and first aid items.

On Thursday, I’ll make sammiches and generally prep food for the trip. Daughter and I divided what we need to take. I’ll also be making a bunch of ice, boiling some eggs, and generally doing my best to make sure we don’t starve during the 7-ish hour crossing…

On Firday, Roxy gets a day off school. We’ll leave one car at the marina, load the other, then the three of us will head across to Oxford to finish readying and stuff. I’ll have to entertain Roxy while the main cabin floor is removed so FCD can get into the engine room and do what needs doing there.

Later that evening, the rest of the crew/family will arrive, and SIL’s brother will take their car back home. A friend of theirs will tend to our dogs at daughter’s house. And if SIL’s claustrophobia is too much after seeing the boat, he’ll take my car back home - we’ll see how that goes when the time comes.

So that’s today’s big plans - gathering stuff. I should probably run to the convenience center, too - the trash cans are getting full. No laundry, tho, so there’s that.

Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do lunch prep / supper prep / KP. Not a whole lot slated for today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I’ll Spring clean the sunroom closet today. Although it’s 39 degrees this morning, so “Spring” feels like a bit of a stretch. Also the house wolf has balked at going outside, because it is too cold and damp.

Mooommmm!, I think Operation Overlord had less planning and moving pieces than your boat move.
“The two best days in a boat owner’s life are when they buy the boat, and when they sell the boat.” :speedboat: :pirate_flag:

Yeah, yeah, and a boat is a hole in the water into which you throw money. And BOAT=Break Out Another Thousand… You think we’re new to this game?? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The temperature has dropped to 35.

Yesterday I shifted all the furniture in my home office, and this morning I woke up feeling like I should stay in bed.

Got up anyway and spent the morning on the couch, made lunch and am now working on spending the afternoon on the couch.

As it still hasn’t rained, I am again watering the plants, which is boring, but necessary.

It’s beautiful outside (18 C / 64 F), but I is tired, maybe sick, so no walk today. We have a frost warning for tonight and might get snow before next weekend. At least we’ll get some moisture from the sky.

If I was an expert napper (you know who you are), I would be napping. But it’s not one of my skills.

Blurf. Also, gotta take out trash, which means scoopin’ the kitteh poop.
Alas, I can do neither, as I have a Monkey on my lap and a work shift in 20 minutes.

Woe is unto me.

It is a place of comfort and refuge to many.

That’s the terrier in “Best In Show.” Heh.

18 days until pack-out. The last bin of paper got sorted yesterday. I think the wife may take another pass through it all to cull out more, but we’re now down to getting rid of food that shouldn’t be packed and a few miscellaneous things.

The RV is pretty much prepped. I sanitized the water tank yesterday and gave it a wash and wax; did the same for the car a few days ago.

Someone is coming next week to see about fixing the damn dishwasher, which decided to crap out on us. I think it’s the pump, but we’ll see. Someone from the city comes tomorrow to do an energy survey. It’s required whenever you sell a house here. Anything to squeeze that last dollar out of you.

Happy Sunday!

It’s a BRRRRR! 40 feels like 27 outside. I skipped the park today, which got me called a wussie, but I am having a rough tummy today too. I know Lucy went, but I’m not sure about Lily. AFAIK, nobody else went.
Lucy dad told me it wasn’t bad, and just a light breeze. Yeah, okay, 40 feels like 27 is not a light breeze.
We’re supposed to get more snow today. Tomorrow morning is supposed to be 22, and Toosday morning 18.
Lovely.
Mother Nature needs to lay off the crack pipe.
My poor magnolia tree, fully bloomed and now this. I had put Mike, the palm, outside and he was getting some new growth, and now he had to come in.

No sloth for me today, I was too slothful yesterday. Once the dishwasher stops running, I’ll start some laundry. I cleaned off the kitchen table this morning, too much stuff piled up there. I thought we were missing some of Ripple’s pills, the ones that come in a foil strip, but then I realized I had my days mixed up and they are all there.

I have a huge pile of dog treat containers that I need to find a home for until the lawn guy gets them. He likes clear plastic jars to store stuff in. I have them piled under the table and on the table, they need to go. I don’t want to put them on the porch, but I think that is where they’ll end up.

I need to get serious with my tax stuff. I’m for sure getting somebody to do them this year. I just can’t deal with it anymore. I also need to look at all the medicare crap that keeps coming here. Although I do have a bit more time for that. It’s still freakin’ annoying; all the damn stuff just keeps coming.

Good morning everyone.

It’s 44 degrees and cloudy with an expected high of 65! The rain and slightly cooler temps move in tomorrow.

I haven’t decided what I’m doing today. Well, other than laundry. I need to do laundry. I am going to keep my plans fluid in case I decide to leave the house.

It’s back to the grind tomorrow. I will be having my quarterly conversation (like a quarterly performance review). I think, for now, that’s all I have on the calendar. It seems my calendar fills up fast with many unexpected meetings. I am debating whether or not to head to the office.

I hope the boat move goes smoothly, FCM. It seems like a minor naval operation you’ve got going on there!
