Zen and the Art of Burning Dogs: BDL Mists of Pandaria Thread

I figured our guild was inactive enough that we didn’t need to start a new thread, settling for brief communication in the general MoP thread. We do tend to have around 5-7 on sometimes though, so who knows. I’m mostly making this under advisement from Mister Rik ;).

This thread is for usual BDL stuff. First order of business: settling guild promotions and bank stuff. The 5 stack limit (and 5 gold limit) is a bit silly (I understand the circumstances, I think we can safely re-up now, at least promote people with authentication and make that rank have more privs).

Second order is Guild Leadership I guess. Prod hasn’t been on in a while, unless he’s coming back soon in which case by all means. I could take the reigns back – promising to hand them off the second I get bored of MoP (if that happens, I like it a lot more than Cat so far). I’m not against others doing it either. I don’t really care if we have a leader, it’s mostly just for clerical stuff like the aforementioned rank privs, having someone on to promote, etc.

I guess the final order of business is potential raiding, but we can save that until more people have raiding chars at max level and geared up. Lingyao (my new main) is a tank/healer, so we have at least one of those roles filled if we need it.

Indeed, it’s time to promote us long-term members back to Legionnaire status. My BDL main, Donoma, is stuck at “Ember Puppy”. And I have no idea who to talk to about inviting new alts into the guild.

One day when I saw him on, I had Bird promote me to Hellhound, so Rahmon can guild invite at least. I try to at least put my SDMB username in the player info field in the guild pane in case you aren’t sure if an alt is mine or not.

Oo, that’s another thing. We used to be able to edit our own info fields, too. I like having my SDMB named tagged to my alts.

And I’m sure several of us have created Pandarian alts that we’d like guild invites for; I know at least I have one.

I’m still here. Obviously RB is taking most of my time, but Moobird is 87.5 and has lots of rested xp. I’ve been running regular dungeons, but always picking up in the middle. Which means I have all the quest and quest gear to gather still. I haven’t made the decision about which build to go with @90. I think it’ll have a bit to do with what we’re planning on doing?
Raids?
Scenarios?
Challenge Modes?
World Bosses?

I’m glad Jragon wants to handle things for a bit, he’s welcome to it unless Prod is still around. Heck, even if he is, a dual-leadership wouldn’t hurt. We just need people on who can ginv, and promote. And then maybe 1 or 2 who can change gbank access.

PS if I’m on Rottingbird, I can jump over and do some /ginv if needed, hit me up on /sdmb or in whisp. Though I may be raiding so it may take some time.

One of my (Jarryn) alts can ginvite and promote to Legionnaire so feel free to hit me up if you need something. My BDL toons are Jarryn, Ghworg, Tiavet, Lyjorin, Bladygaga, Onunti. All have “Jarryn alt” in the player note. I’m easy to find and should be on more often now.

I’m surprised no one has gotten the “Your Guild Leader has been absent for a while Would you like to take over?” message yet. I mentioned in gchat that if I get the message I’ll accept but I’m not actively seeking the GL status. Like Jragon says, it’s mostly for clerical stuff but we’re at a point where some needs to be done.

Donoma is now a Legionnaire.

I haven’t played WoW since the first expansion. But I thought I’d give it another spin and see some of the new content. What server is the SDMB guild on?

We’re Horde on Cairne.

One of my toons, Myika, can ginvite and promote up to Legionnaire.

I haven’t quite decided what toon I’m making my raiding main this expansion so I’m leveling up potential tank/healer toons to give me options. Too bad Blizzard didn’t leave warlock tanking in :frowning:

I’m still here…and I have community gold that I was keeping safe and some other older stack items that may or may not be useless. I need to get on a little more often, but don’t count me out.

Thanks  She was a Legionnaire from way back, but I was on my six-month break from WoW when I read here that somebody got hacked and the GB was raided, resulting in everybody being temporarily demoted. So when I came back in September I couldn’t remember who might be able to bump me back up. Though I just noticed the other day that Jabloo had already been promoted, and I remember that happening while I had him logged in, but I couldn’t remember who did it.

Pretty sure that my main - Kalathan - can guild invite (and probably promote)…

…as long as I can remember that silly /ginvite command that is <sheepish grin>

I don’t really have a anything to add, just that I re-upped a while back and am working up my guild character (Flynnzok). I’m a super casual player, so I’m not really sure how much use I’d be; But I do appreciate everyone always answering my questions.

Here’s the BDL Roster and ranks:

Proditio (ShinKell) is still the Guild Leader, with Kalathan (Runestar) and Yeticalayla (Me) Level 1s (Flamelords…I think?), Doggiebanker (my BDL bank/gold holder that I spoke of earlier) is the Vaultmaster at level 2. And any active players should be bumped up to level 3 (Legionnaires)…but should we require people to have authenticators at level 3 and above? Move inactive players down to level 5?

I was on last night for a couple of hours and I will try to be on more regularly. I can’t remember if I can promote people if they are offline or if I have to wait for people to be online to promote…but if you want a promotion, let us know here in this thread so I or Kal can promote. We can’t promote anyone else to level 1 (only ShinKell can), and I don’t think promoting everyone to vaultmaster would be a good idea either (I do realize the need to clean up the guild bank for newer items/gear though…and I am more than happy to do it again), but level 3 I think is the one with 10 stacks per tab per day which makes moving stuff around in the guild bank manageable. It may also have 100g limit per day…don’t remember.

Doggiebanker is also sitting on about 140k in gold as well…we could either distribute that or save it for guild-related purchases. This was the gold that Rasz bequeathed us awhile back along with some older items that I could sell or put on AH.

Shoot some ideas here on how to proceed.

Okay, here’s how I originally envisioned the ranks and how I think they should change:

Ember Puppy (Rank 5) was for Alts and non-SDMB guild members going through a trial period (we had a couple at one points). Very few privs, was initially the only rank that could not ginvite and could withdraw nothing from the bank.

Legionnaire (Rank 4) was the default rank for mains, and could draw what, at the time, was a reasonable amount of gold (5) and a small number of stacks from the bank. As far as I can tell, Legionnaires can still only withdraw that amount.

Hellhound (Rank 3) was the rank for raiding members (or members who were very frequently on), I think I set the gold limit barely higher just as a formality. The main draw was ability to use guild repairs because I felt, at the time, that if you raided with us it was only fair to use our gold for repairs when we failed.

Vaultmaster (Rank 2) was a special rank I announced on the forum for bank management. It was the only rank (other than GM, natch) that had complete and total access to the gbank. If I recall correctly, Omencaller was the original Vaultmaster and the rank was created solely out of a need to organize the stupid bank and liquidate unneeded materials when they got out of control. Eventually I think it devolved into “the guy who deals with what happens when we got hacked” (long after I had stopped being GM).

Flamelord (Rank 3) was… basically Hellhound. I’m not entirely clear on why it’s there, I think the only extra priv is officer chat and setting MOTD. I think the only reason it’s there is for /gpromote purposes.

Dracolich (GM) was… okay, you guys can figure this one out.

Okay, so here’s how I think they should change

Ember Puppy stays the same, but mostly as a “just in case” rank. Anybody who hasn’t been on in months or years and is currently a puppy will remain a puppy for pure safety.

Legionnaire will be the default rank for everyone, alt or main. Gold and stack withdraw will remain the same (maybe upped a tiny bit for gold withdraw), but Guild Repair will be enabled. Invite Privs.

Hellhound will be renamed to Core Hound, and as the name implies, will be for people with an authenticator (aka Core Hound Pup). They’ll have even greater withdraw privileges at the bank – not sure on exact numbers. Maybe 20-50 gold and 10 stacks or so? Grepair enabled. Invite Privs. We’ll pretty much just take your word for it if you say you have an authenticator.

Vaultmaster will remain the same, Grepair enabled if it’s not already.

Flamelord will essentially be a clone of Hellhound/Core Hound (again), but the GM should promote a few people’s mains to it so that we have people that can promote alts with an authenticator to Core Hound. Also set MOTD.

Dracolich gets the honor of enacting all these changes. Also design a tabard if you want, which might I remind you is the most fun thing ever.

All users will have the ability to edit their own tags.

Like I said, if Bird still has that “inactive GM” prompt, and does /gleader Lingyao I can do this all no fuss on Friday or Saturday when I get some free time (I’m used to the terrible interface!). Or someone else can, not a huge deal.

P.S. /gpromote at least used to work on offline members. The only guild command that I recall that won’t work on offline players is /ginvite for obvious reasons.

ETA: Yeti, we could up the gold withdraw limit if Doggiebanker deposits a chunk of that 140k.

I don’t have the ‘inactive gm’ prompt. But if I do, I’ll gleader Lingyao.

I think Scenarios will be our initial guild fun since it only takes 3 people and no real tank/healer combination (Hybrid characters are a plus though…3 mages/rogues are pretty weak in scenarios:) )

If we start seeing >5 people online we can run challenge modes which I think will be the most challenging for our group because of this tidbit:

The specifics of that are that anything over 463 will be brought down to 463. So we should at least have 463 avg ilvl

Then of course no matter how many we have at any time, we can run lfr or join in on world bosses if they start to happen. We can also run old raid content with people from other servers (those dopers in the other thread that don’t have characters on Cairne) using RealFriendID (or whatever it’s called) Does anyone have experience with OpenRaid? We can fill from randoms there if no friends are available.

So hopefully that gives us some things to do for fun.

It would kind of be interesting to know, how many actual players the 283 characters in the BDL represent.

I know I had 4 characters in the BDL, but I deleted two of them a few months ago when I realized that I hadn’t played them in months, and didn’t feel the need to start playing either of them again any time soon. I’m guessing most folks have multiple characters in the BDL.

I just recently re-upped after not playing since Burning Crusade. I’m kind of a lurker here, but I’d love to join the BDL if nothing else just for some socializing, and if anyone is leveling any alts maybe I could use the company.

I rerolled to Cairne a week or so ago, currently a level 40 shaman. So I won’t be helping with any raiding or high-level stuff for a while, but I’m rocketing along.

My character is Kallistika, I’ll see if anyone’s around to give me an invite when I’m online, if it’s OK

Jragon, sounds great to me. I have been careful about promoting toons that only have the authenticator and now it’s real easy to go on battle.net to check for the Core Hound Pup Pet to verify. I did that for LurkerAbove and promoted his toons last night to Hellhounds (but now I see not all of them should have been hellhounds, just the raid-capable ones). I even use my Core Hound Pup to do pet battles and named him…wait for it…Authenticator! He will probably be my highest level pet for easy verification online.

I am starting to get back into the daily grind for Yeticalayla and Destroyercon will only level through mining and herbalism to stock up on mats. I started a Panda Monk named Huell, but he’s a long term project of mine.

We could start up another Raidlist thread to find out who’s active with what.

I will keep an eye out for you, and you keep an eye out for Yeticalayla and/or Kalathan and whisper us for the invite.
