Does anyone else think this will hurt her show? I think part of her drawing power was her indie image (not just in music). How so, by being right or wrong, it looks like she had a highly talked about show, doing well, which may start a lot more profitable lead actress parts and went Hollywood by dumping her husband. Once again right or wrong about why they divorced. So what do you think, will this tarnish “New Girl” or just be a non issue?
I think it will hurt her image a bit, judging from how many people do think Zooey Deschanel is Jess Day. But not enough to hurt the show.
The show has aired, 3-4 episodes. How many people could possibly associate her with her character that strongly at this point? Especially since she’s been a working actress for many years already with recognizable lead roles?
Divorce is so common in Hollywood that one more is a non-issue.
Agreed…among most Americans today, there is little, or no, stigma to being divorced any longer. And, frankly, for those Americans for whom there is still a stigma to being divorced…how many of them would actually be watching that show?
Among Hollywood actors, I think many people would be surprised to learn that any given actor hadn’t been divorced at some point. Read any veteran actor’s bio on IMDB.com, and two or three marriages seems to be the norm.
The only thing she should worry about tarnishing her show are the three douchebags that were cast as her roommates. They’re all terrible, especially the one that keeps taking his shirt off.
If Neil Patrick Harris can come out of the closet while playing the most aggresively heterosexual character on TV, with no impact whatsoever, then I think Zooey will be fine.
I doubt most people who watch the show know the first thing about her personally. I’d bet a surprising number of people who watch the show don’t know her real name. Many regular TV viewers will dutifully watch shows, love them to peices, and not be able to name any of the actors they’re watching.
Aww, they’re starting to grow on me, but between yesterday’s episode and Max on Happy Endings being considered chubby, I’m starting to get a complex.
I may have vaguely heard about Zooey being married but it’s not really something I care about. Kim Kardashian couldn’t make her marriage work and if that bedrock of a couple couldn’t hack it, I bear no judgment towards anyone else.
I had no idea she was married until I saw this thread title. Until I saw her singing the anthem on [sports game] a week or so ago and asked someone why she was doing it, I had no idea she had any kind of singing background.
Besides as far as I can tell, New Girl is still in the “Are we filming another episode” territory. IOW, I think their viewership is low enough that I really don’t think it matters what people think of her at the moment since not enough people care about the show to have any real impact. Within the first 4 episodes they replaced a main character and took a 4 week break…if the show is going to crash and burn (and I hope it doesn’t), it’s not going to be because of this. It’s going to be because people are going to quickly get sick of watching a hipster, a douche and two straight men (that’s ‘straight man’ the character type) crammed into an apartment trying to find dates.
Just for divorcing, no. Unless there’s more to the story like an affair or something. I wouldn’t even know she was married if I hadn’t heard the line from the If I Was Zooey Deschanel song “married to that guy from Death Cab for Cutie”.
I agree the roommates are a bigger issue. I liked Wayans but they replaced him with some random boring replacement black guy. I do like the recently broken up guy. But douche guy is just annoying so far. The drop from 2/3 to 1/3 is hurting. Also, Zooey needs to sing more.
