Fantasy football season is just around the corner, so let’s use this as a general discussion thread. Recruiting is fine, discussion of specific leagues before their specific threads open is fine, debating the value of players - whatever you want, open game.

The links I give in this post will be for last year’s thread for the various leagues. I’ll post the URLs to this year’s thread when they’re created.

    So far for the leagues I run I’ve scheduled them around the same relative dates (ie auction league is the Tuesday after week 3 in preseason) but this is just a starting point, to get a time reservation down. If someone can’t make it, and everyone can handle a time change, we can work out a schedule change. So these are preliminary:

The super league is as yet unscheduled, I’ll start that thread soon to get the ball rolling on discussing voting for replacements/invitations.

None of my leagues are recruiting yet - I want to give people a chance to claim their spots - but as we get nearer the season, I will fill empty slots. Make sure you rejoin your leagues. Go to the yahoo fantasy football page and there will be an option.

The Super League will be recruiting 1 player - the way the league works is that we try to have 6 of the board’s best, most active players, and each year the loser of the relegation bowl gets kicked out of the league. The rest of the league then votes for a replacement based on who they think will be the best/most active competition, and they’re invited to join us. If you want to get in on the super league, make your case.

As a request/suggestion, I’d like everyone to keep their same team name from last year. If people change fantasy team names every year, you often forget who’s who and it hampers the sense of community you get with these multiyear leagues.

Nope, it’s a semi-complicated system of rewarding those in the consolation bracket, as well as punishing the last place teams. Final order was:

I assume Hungry Hungry is Jules Andre, since that’s what he’s gone by in other leagues. Or maybe he left the league, NurseCarmen took over, and kept the name? Or Jules took over for NurseCarmen and you’re guessing based on his keepers.

There should be markedly less Afghanistan this year than last for me, so I’m in for an opening in the big league or the auction league if one opens up.

In a semi-keeper PPR league I have the ability to keep among others DeMarco Murray (RB-Dal), Eli Manning (QB-NYG), and Victor Cruz (WR-NYG) .

I have to keep one player, and If I choose to keep a 2nd I lose a 5th round pick in the upcoming draft. I leaning towards keeping Cruz and Murray (as QB’s last a bit longer in this league), and if only one just Cruz.

What do you guys think?

I think Cruz and Murray are no-brainers.

Yeah I would tend to agree, but was seeing if I could get an argument to keep Manning.

I think I’m going to bow out of the Big League this year, so if you want it, the spot is yours.

Having been ousted from the Super League, I am also looking for a new (third) home.

I’m looking for another league as well. As I explained to the He Hate Me league, I got my liver/kidney transplant and am feeling much better, ready to get back in the game.

I mean, err, I’m sorry you’re unable to take part, and I’m sure that no one outside of SB will mind having another person in the BL who overdrafts (and by that I mean drafts) Browns skill position players again.

In a non keeper, standard scoring league, would you consider drafting Luck or RGIII?

Right now, I’m saying no unless it is a 14 team league or larger.

In a ten team league, I’m very unlikely to draft a backup QB at all.
In a 12 team league, I do draft a back up, but I’m probably going to aim for a Matt Ryan, Ryan Fitzpatrick type if I’ve got a quality starter.

With a 14 team or larger league, I think I’d consider taking a chance on or the other if there isn’t much left at RB or WR in the late rounds.

Well, let me put it this way: the ceiling for RGIII in his first year is what Rex Grossman did last year. Is that what you want from your backup?

True, I am horrible at fantasy football. Note my results in the OP!

I’ve gotten better about not doing that anyway - usually just very late round fliers. Although at least this year there will be a player worth drafting.

You don’t homer pick any more than everybody else. In fact you do it less then a few people in some of the leagues.

I used to be worse about homer picks, so he’s probably remembering that more than my recent behavior. It’s a habit I’ve mostly gotten over, although my late round fliers do tend to be very browns heavy.

Except he will also have rushing yards, probably worth a couple extra points per game.

That said I like upside out of my backup QB, so I would rather own RG3 than say, Alex Smith or Matt Cassel.
