2008 Emmy Awards

Josh Groban must be the hardest-working man in show business now that James Brown’s dead.

Yay, Laura Linney won. But Jebus H Fark, the man she married looks like he needs a steak driven through his heart. (Yes, I said steak - he’s the most sallow, undernourished-looking street rat I’ve seen in some time.)

Groban’s bit was a flop. So was the Sock it to me montage, and this Laugh In thing is pretty bad too.

Heresy!

Oh my yes. They should have left Lily Tomlin handle it…

Her and Gary Owens. The other three I could care less.

Barry Sonnenfeld (comedy directing) and Tina Fey (comedy writing) winning? Nice! Good going Academy!

Awards update:

Lead actress miniseries or movie – Laura Linney – John Adams
Variety, music or comedy program – The Daily Show
Guest actor/actress/ comedy – Tim Conway for a guest shot on 30 Rock, Katherine Huston (sp?) – the elderly lady from Desperate Housewives
Director/comedy – Barry Sonnenfeld, Pushing Daisies
Writing/comedy – Tina Fey, 30 Rock “Cooter”

I’m gonna let the Tivo pick up the rest of this. Too many ads, too little entertainment.

Is this the most awkward Emmys ever, or am I just in the wrong mood?

Alan Sues don’t look so good.

He looks – and sounds – like someone dug him out of a not particularly shallow grave for this.

And I liked the Josh Groban bit.

Other than that, though – yeah, not a smooth movement yet.

Yep, this is almost painful to watch.

Well. That was… um.

Mad Men walks off with best drama series, while 30 Rock gets the comedy honours.

Glenn Close nabs best actress in a drama, and Bryan Cranston takes best actor (can anybody tell me what the heck Breaking Bad is? I have never heard of this program in my life). Jeff Probst gets an Emmy for voting people off the island, or something.

Jon Stewart, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Colbert, and Steve Carrell were pretty much the only watchable ones. And was it just me, or were there a lot of people not showing up for the ceremony?

I don’t watch much TV, but I figured I’d just tune in a bit to see who was winning what. It took about 2 minutes for me to remember why I don’t watch much TV. That was absolutely painful. Rickles was death, Mary Tyler Moore looked like an exhumed skeleton wearing a dress and the ‘joke’ about handing out the Best Reality Show Host award was funny for about 6 seconds… but the bit dragged on for 10 more minutes. Yikes!

“Breaking Bad” is a truly awesome show and Bryan Cranston is brilliant in it. The premise is he is a high-school chemistry teacher who finds out he has incurable cancer. He decides the best way to provide for his family after his death is to enter the meth-making business. He, with the help of a former student, developes the best meth known to man and quickly makes a lot of money. There are a lot of struggles along the way with other dealers, gangsters, and his DEA agent brother-in-law.

I didn’t have high hopes when I began watching the pilot, but I was quickly drawn into the drama of the characters. It is a well-written, well-acted series. Definitely worth watching.

I’m hoping Bryan Cranston’s win will get more people watching “Breaking Bad.” IMO, it is better than that other AMC drama, “Mad Men.”

OK, so when is Breaking Bad coming back on? I haven’t heard anything about it. As much as I love Jon Hamm, Bryan Cranston deserved the win.

Did The Wire win anything?

MiM

The Wire didn’t get nominated for anything.

I think this is the first Emmys where everyone I wanted to win did win. Couldn’t wait to get in here today and check it out - apparently my decision to not watch was the right one.

Actually, my wife and I enjoyed the show and found it to be one of the more entertaining award shows we’ve seen in years. We liked the Groban bit, as well as the nomination for the comedy writers. Didn’t think the Rowan and Martin bit went over too well, and I found myself rooting for Tom Bergeron (sp?) to win - being the only clip-show host in the history of the medium that actually achieved the rarified goal of being funny (at times) is no small thing.
