2023 NFL Draft Thread - Fair to middling

I hope Stroud is great for the Texans and cleanses the slate from Watson.

Holy crap. Texans trade up, they must have really wanted Anderson.

If they gave up a bunch of picks this might be seriously foolish.

Houston is going all-in right now. 2 and 3.

So far though, picks 1 and 2 are predictable.

Yup, and that’s who they got.

My prediction is that Indianapolis will pick Richardson.

Praying Richardson is there at 9 so the Bears can trade back. Levis to the Colts seems like a lock.

Nailed it. Really surprising. I like the pick but it breaks type for the Colts in a big way. Levis lasting to 9 seems like a better possibility, so this could help the Bears.

Good for the fans of the Texans. They get to buy more season tickets and get excited for the next few months. Sure the reality of having one of the worst rosters in the NFL will break them halfway through the season, but at least they have hope for awhile.

I really don’t understand why, when they’re clearly building to the future, they spend so much draft capital to move back up. Even if both Stroud and Anderson are studs, you’re going to have two rookies coming off their rookie contracts at the same time and less chances to improve the roster.

Glad to see Indy’s Failson drafting a project QB at #4. Shame for the Indy players that I like, but more than happy to see Irsay suffer for another year.

I think Richardson was just the best overall QB available (as far as potential), so that was the reason for my guess.

I’m expecting Seattle to take Carter, but they can be hard to predict, even as a Seahawks fan.

Saw someone compare Richardson (positively) to Colin Kaepernick. Seems like a pretty good comp.

Would anyone defend drafting Colin Kaepernick with the #4 pick in the draft?

And they grab a cornerback. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

They must have really been unimpressed by Carter.

Fighting Illini in the top 5! He was a guy I would have been thrilled to have in Chicago. Good for the Seahawks. He’s amazing.

Will the Lions take Carter?

Absolutely! He took the 49ers to the Super Bowl. If not for being blackballed, who knows how his career would have panned out?

(Yes, I’m aware that he was playing like shit when he was originally benched - and Kurt Warner looked like a ‘has-been’ with the Giants before he had a renaissance with the Cardinals - but I consider his career to be more of an ‘incomplete’ than anything else.)

ETA: Richardson is bigger than Kapernick, isn’t he? I think he has a higher ceiling.

Cards trading back up. Maybe for Carter? Seems like another bad investment.

LOL! Apparently Kyler is the GM.

I think Witherspoon is a great player, CB is a valuable spot in the NFL, and picking Witherspoon at 5 was not a reach. Lots of people were high on him.

Seattle needs defense up front though, not in back.

Still… You have Witherspoon and Tariq Woolen (who last year in his rookie season went to the Pro Bowl), so that’s going to frustrate the heck out of opposing QBs. Maybe I’ll love this pick later. Now, I’m just like… Huh.

I was just gonna say, they’re certainly doubling down on making Kyler successful.

Using that logic, so did Jimmy G. Is he worth a #4 pick?

Wilson’s suit is amazing.

He wasn’t that bad with the Giants. The knock on him was that he kept taking sacks to preserve his passing stats. Interestingly, his passing stats with the Giants were essentially the same as his stats with the Cardinals for the next three years. It wasn’t until his 4th year with the Cardinals (when they went to the Superbowl) that his numbers significantly improved.

I have no idea what the Bears are gonna do if they can’t trade out. Skoronski is looking like the only viable one left.
