24: Season 4: Episode 8 (2:00pm - 3:00pm)

A pox upon my VCR!

Anyone feel like mailing me a tape of last night’s episode? troymccluresf@gmail.com

(Please e-mail, since I’m avoiding this thread.)

They gave it away in last week’s preview. Even if they hadn’t, you’re right, it’d have been much too straightforward.

Gotta love Edgar being the chunky techno Sherlock Holmes.

I think you’re right. The backstory was good, but very film noir-ish. Tony has nothing to live for long-term, so I get the sense he’ll redeem himself and die in the process. I could be wrong but they’ve given off that vibe so far.

Wouldn’t that be weird? Even weirder if he was a genuinely nice guy. Imagine the guy sitting down next to you in the cafeteria, and asking you if you caught last night’s Venture Brothers.

I get that impression too, but they could also take it the other way, and have him bent on revenge against the forces that conspired to ruin his life.

He could be “helping” Jack just for the opportunity to throw a spanner into the works. Mwahahahahah.

Well, thanks to Sara we know his name is Eric. I’m more curious to know how you get that job. What experience do you need to put on your resume when applying to be Torture Guy? What kind of references do they ask for? What the heck would the Classified Ad look like?

“Former telemarketer looking for hands on work. Knowledgable in multiple techniques.”

I’m more inclined to believe it’s one of those “internal posting” type jobs. Like you have to pay your dues as Data Bitch for a couple of years and then you can apply for Torture Dude.

Makes sense. You’d get some mighty pissed off people that way. Perhaps Chloe can be Torture Lady in Season Five. She’d be a natural, and she could probably do the job without using any needles or probes or helmets.

I think everyone’s missing the point about Torture Guy, though. He sucks!

First episode = zilchola. Jack w/10 seconds and 1 round gets more results.

The DoD’s activist kid = zilchola. A civvy and 2-3 freakin’ hours! Nothing.

He was about to bat 0 for 3 is Lispy Skip didn’t save the day.

At least now Marianne should be in for an active working over.

Did they even use him on Sherak? And of course Jack got better results- he’s Jack, and he broke the law by shooting the guy. Torture guy can’t do that.

But he didn’t know anything, probably, and was restricted to non-invasive stuff. He didn’t get to work him over for real.

Definitely not TG’s fault since they had the wrong woman.

I had a sinking feeling that the Secret Service agents who were going to pick up Audrey were rogue agents or were going to get hijacked on the way back. But they weren’t. That’s very un-24 of them.

Actually, torture guy is breaking the law by torturing prisoners. Jack just upped the degree.

No, he isn’t.

For the sake of our sanity, let’s not compare the fiction of “24” to the reality of any events happening in Iraq. Please!!!

Yes he is. All of the prisoners Miranda Rights were violated.

I’m pretty sure that doesn’t apply when terrorism is involved. There is a definite national security threat, and they’re also living in a world where terrorist attacks on America are a regular fact of life - as far as I remember, there’s been a plane blown up, an attempt on the life of the President that barely failed, hundreds killed by bioterrorism in the hotel, and tens of thousands at risk ‘today.’ In our world I’m not sure about the legality of that kind of torture when there is a real terrorist threat; in 24’s world it disturbs me but I’m not sure it’s illegal.

Perhaps you are thinking of the former Soviet Union, North Korea or Nazi Germany?

Miranda is a fifth amendment self-incrimination right. Since CTU is, I think, not terribly worried about using any confessions gained at trial, Miranda does not apply (well, it applies, but it just means they can’t use any statements gained at trial).

Due process rights, on the other hand…yeah, CTU isn’t too concerned with those.

He also had a little “accident” with Nina Meyers in Season 3. Probably why he doesn’t inject into the neck anymore (hmm, maybe I should use a part of the body that is strapped down and can’t move). The guy is definitely incompetent.

“Tell me who you’re working for, or I’ll keep talking! I’m not kidding around here! I’ll do it!”

I don’t recall Torture Guy actually getting to work on anybody except for Sarah, who was innocent and didn’t know anything.

The first terrorist guy – Driscoll was questioning him, and wasn’t it with Curtis’ help? Wasn’t Curtis the one asking how far can I go?

The first time I remember seeing Torture Guy was when they called him in to work on Richard, and then Curtis called him off at the last moment (from the injection), and decided to go for Sensory Deprivation – and it was only Curtis coming in to question him on those parts.

My conclusion: Torture Guy has been on coffee break for a good long while, until this last hour, and Sarah is soooooo totally calling off their date for Friday night.
