24: Season 5: Episodes 11-12 (5:00pm - 7:00pm)

I like this quote from the article about Edgar:

It’s gotta be weird to lose your job like that.

so much for the next-day glow after getting some… let us not forget that just last night, Chloe was kicking the dust out with Spenser the Wolff…

I agree with this, although I still reserve the right to make fun of her.

So, did Spensder die in holding in the gas attack?

I don’t really care…I’m just working on a Chloe Theory…She Mates and then She Kills.

-Joe

Spenser was escorted off the premises.

Unfortunatly, then he went to the shopping mall, and was eating lunch when the terrorists hit the food court with the nerve gas…

So they took him to the nearest hospital…

I agree – why couldn’t she just call her dad? I’m sure he would be able to exert enough influence with the President to get Lynn removed from higher up (rather than Curtis having to do it under Emergency Clause Oust-The-Raving-Hobbit X112). And faster.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Secretary Heller make an appearance this season.

Yes, but then a wino would somehow stumble into the room with Logan & Novik, yell something about paper clips and Cindy Crawford, and Logan would take that as a stern warning not to remove Lynn.

Jack Bauer is pinned down by the terrorists! How will he escape?

A helicopter swoops in, door guns blazing. It’s Heller, manning both door guns and the pilot’s controls. A terrorist SAM streaks up and the helicopter explodes! Seconds later we see Heller emerge from the fireball, M-16 in hand. He kills several terrorists on the way down, lands in a haystack, and immediately bounces out, firing on full auto!

Really, how many truly badass characters (in this case, killing machines) have we had on 24? Jack Bauer, Black Bauer, Old Bauer (Heller’s new nickname). Anyone else?

-Joe

Soulpatch Bauer, maybe?

Well, Chloe had her moment last season. If she keeps it up, she could become…
Chick Bauer.

Hey, I work for a bunch of them. I’m all in favor of thinning the herd in any way possible. Including atomic weapons and nerve gas in shinny containers with really big LED readouts.

OK, I’ve been thinking about this whole “attack on CTU” thing. Clearly it was planned well in advance, as Lynn’s mugging was clearly designed to steal his key card. And the terrorists had done their homework in rewiring the keycard and getting schematics of the CTU headquarters. Which means that they knew well in advance that they’d be gassing CTU. But…their whole plan originally involved trucking the gas overseas. And the head terrorist guy is clearly peeved that he couldn’t do that.

So do these guys just plan (meticulously) for failure? It’s an odd contingency plan that involves breaking into a high security (yet curiously porous) facility.

Incidentally, the bad guys have gassed three locations. Each time, they’ve lost their highly trained assassin type. (The first time, they lost a total of three.) You have to think that they’re going to have trouble getting a volunteer for canister 4.

I’m not sure of the total body count of bad guys this season, but it’s well into the teens already. Good thing they’re using the same hiring agency that last year’s terrorists were using to get their legions of bad guys.

I think the most bad-ass non-Bauer characters in the history of 24 are all bad guys: Marwan (the closest to an equal foe Jack has ever had) (despite the hilarious overcomplexity of his plan), Nina (who fooled Jack for an entire season, and then lived an additional 1.5 years despite being an adversary), and Mandy (who is, amazingly, still alive).

Marwan was a punk. The only real advantage he had was a personal transporter in his pocket to get him out of danger.

Nina was the closet thing Jack’s even had to an equal and opposite.

Mandy needs more airtime…Naked. However, the reason she’s still alive is because she’s only met Jack once…and that time she had Tony as a Hostage. If not for that, she’d probably be stone dead by now.

I’m late to the party, here, so pardon if some of this is a repeat of what others have posted:

It’s great to Jack back in torture mode again. Did anyone not expect him to take a shot at Mirriam? Wow, Kim is back, and she isn’t even irritating… yet. Edgar, we hardly knew ye!

Now fo the  parts.

Why would they have people milling around the isolation chamber outside the hospital? if you’re going to use the thing, it’s going to be dangerous. And I damn sure would’ve left my mask on for more than 10 nSec after the lid was closed. Before Curtis lifted the thing off the gurney, why the hell not put a garbage can or something over it to minimize the exposure if the cannister suddenly openned?

Why wouldn’t they have deactivated Samwise’s precioius keycard when they had him in lockdown? Stupid, stupid, stupid. And how about shutting off the ventilation system as soon as you know one of the bad guys in inside CTU?

Anyway, some good action, and we got to hear Jack say “…or thousands of people will die”. But why is only thousands?

The VP took CTU’s numbers and revised them to a few hundred thousand (400k maybe?). The numbers originally given by CTU were like 150k. So Jack’s basing his threats on CTU’s estimates.

You really think that Marwan was more of a bad-ass than Curtis is? Marwan was intelligent, but not nearly as resourceful as Curtis, in my view. I’d put Curtis as maybe a half-step below Nina. Hell, if he wasn’t so willing to go by the book all the time, I think he could easily surpass her.

And I’ll throw in another vote for Soulpatch, while we’re at it. I think we could count on Tony to shoot an innocent civilian in the leg if necessary.

So, let’s just put this on the table. Choose your mercenary team:

  1. Jack, Curtis and Tony, with Chloe and Edgar working remotely
  2. Nina, Mandy and…let’s say Sherry Palmer working the people angle, with Marwan coordinating and working the computer

The season’s only half-over at this point. I’m counting on that figure going up. It ain’t 24 if millions of lives aren’t at stake.
