Yeah, but the rest of them in that hallway are just kinda hanging out, shooting the breeze with the insurrectionists. So only one selfie maybe, but a distinction without a difference.
Agreed: this is not going away – not until it is met with force.
And that is what I advocate: when Biden takes over (eventually), he must act aggressively, and he will have to have the stomach to tell the Republicans to go to hell. This is a national emergency, and it has to be treated as such.
Today also is a reminder of what I have been saying for a while: Yes, I get that McConnell wasn’t really, truly a fan of Donald Trump. This can be said of many Republicans - “They don’t really like him; they’re just aiming for votes.” They were just hoping to take advantage of having Trump in the White House.
Yes, yes – we get that. And this is the outcome. This is what happens. The dynamics have a way of getting away from the supposedly skillful, deft politicians who are so used to being in control of the machinations of the political process. There comes a point at which they can’t fucking control this anymore - and I would say that today was as clear an indication as any, that we are at that point.
They overran the fucking Capitol police. They stormed the Capitol. It is a scene out of the Arab fucking Spring and it’s right here.
I agree, up to this point.

Well, for sure, those “front” doors should long ago have been changed to hard barriers that can be outright bolted shut into the concrete at the first sign of trouble. Let the members enter through a discreet door in the driveway side and have the fire exits be camouflaged to not look like entries. That they weren’t is just another failure of imagination based on the illusion that “oh, this is the House of the People, we cannot shut it in”
This is just more proof that the police have become essentially a right-wing gang, encouraged by the last 4 years of republicans destroying law and order in our country. If a group protests police brutality, the police are eager to crack down and brutalize them. If armed insurrectionists raid the capitol to prevent democracy from happening, they’re treated with kid gloves. Just like the armed raid of the governor’s office in Michigan. The police treat these people as lightly as possible because there’s a lot of overlap, the police are these people. This is extremely scary and needs to be solved somehow.
Also, Pence will still be VP until January 20, so he will still represent the tie-breaking vote and thus retain the Republican majority until Kamala Harris takes his place.
The Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs put out a notice that they were calling out the National Guard after speaking to Pence, Pelosi, McConnell, Schumer, and Hoyer. Nowhere did they say they spoke to Individual 1.
OK, let’s talk business for a moment.
The assault on the Capitol was horrific, but the Capitol is just a building. Congress isn’t a place, it’s a bunch of people. Are all of the Senators and representatives safe and accounted for? If they are, when will they resume voting?
And for that matter, where? It’ll take a while to give an all-clear for the Capitol building, so why not convene somewhere else? I’m assuming there is no shortage of conference halls in DC. Move everyone to one of them and finish the damn count.
It doesn’t have to. They’ll be gathered tomorrow, I assume, to pick up where they left off today. Play the tape of Trump’s phone call with Raffensperger, then play the tape of Trump’s speech earlier today, then House votes and passes it to the Senate. Senate can take it up right away, or sit on their hands. Either way, it’ll show us what they’re made of.
A right-wing Facebook friend is claiming this is all a false flag operation staged by Democrats.
I asked, “To what end?”
He replied, “To make Trump and his supporters look bad.”
I said, “But WHY? They are about to control the White House and both chambers of congress. What’s the point of trying to make anybody look bad, and interrupt the electoral vote count to boot?”
He has yet to respond.
Mayor Muriel Bowser speaking on CNN.
The entire MAGA movement is a conspiracy to make the MAGA movement look bad. Nothing is real.
Maybe, my ass.
It looks like they have cleared the scaffolding.
Hey look, I think I see a few bad apples.
He signed up for Trumpism.
He’s stood by Trump unfailingly for 4 years.
He’s okay with “good people” in Charlottown carrying tiki torches and chanting Nazi slogans.
He’s okay with exclusion of people based on their religion.
He’s okay with putting children in cages and separating them from their parents as a matter of policy.
He’s okay with attending rallies as recently as this weekend and encouraging the “stop the steal” agenda.
Fuck him.
Show him that tweet by the Glen Beck reporter.
15 minutes till curfew, a violation of which could result in arrest. This will be interesting.
The mayor of DC refusing to answer whether rioters will be arrested.
