That’s my big question too. We have seen that the police weren’t using weapons, not even their fists in defense of anything. I can’t imagine one lone cop thinking it was time to make a stand by shooting a random person and then taking off.

Rachel Maddow just made a good point: other than Trump’s inflammatory video, we haven’t heard a peep from anyone in the Executive branch today. Nobody from DoD, Homeland Security, the AG…nothing. Total radio silence. Total abdication of leadership responsibility.
I know this won’t happen, but hypothetically, let’s say Congress wasn’t able to reconvene to continue counting electoral votes before the 20th. Pelosi becomes president, but who would be VP? It’s a relatively trivial concern except in this case, where that person determines control of the Senate.
Also saw elsewhere, per the DoD, that Trump was not consulted. It’s weird, Pence shouldn’t have this authority.

I can’t find confirmation. Most of what I’ve read indicates that the rumors were that Pence unfollowed Trump and are “inconclusive”. I want it to be true but right now it’s unconfirmed.

These people “storming” the capitol are not insurgents, or rebels or protesters or freedom fighters or whatever you may want to call them
They’re toddlers. Toddlers pitching a fit. Nothing more. And as anyone who’s had to deal with a toddler pitching a fit knows the best thing to do is nothing. Just let them scream and kick and cry. Eventually, they’ll tire themselves out and you can take them home and put them to bed.
These little children aren’t a threat to our democracy, they won’t stop anything. By Taking them seriously you only give them legitimacy.
