Well, what did he say? Is there video of it?
Is there any possibility that it was in his capacity as president of the senate to protect the capitol. Perhaps Nancy Pelosi could have done it. Otherwise I don’t understand it either.
I think his actions have constituted sedition for weeks.
I live in my state’s capital. Pro-Trump protestors here breeched the gate at the governor’s mansion after protesting at the capital complex. They retreated back to the gate after 30 minutes. No arrests. I’m assuming the thinking was that arrests would have made them more violent, and they hadn’t actually gotten into the residence. Lots of plane and chopper activity.
Is this sort of thing happening in other state capitals?
What State?
At the federal level, the DOJ rules say a president can’t be indicted. Trump v. Vance confirms that a president is not immune to investigation by a state.
Still - holy crap!
The job of a foreign agent is to keep tabs.
Any agent worth their while in DC was monitoring the crowd from within the crowd.
Then the crowd gets into the capital. As well as the agents.
Thumb drives stolen. Files copied. Papers photographed, taken. Pelosi’s office. McConnell’s. More.
If it weren’t for the computer hack recently announced, this may have been as great a hack of US secrets as any ever achieved. And we may never, ever know.
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Thank you for seeing, through the course of this year, an agenda that truly is restoring this country. You described it very well, Mr President. From the outset of this administration, we’ve been rebuilding our military, putting the safety and security of the American people first.
You’ve restored American credibility on the world stage. We’re standing with our allies. We’re standing up to our enemies.
But you promised economic renewal at home. You said we could make this economy great again, and you promised to roll back regulations, and you’ve signed more bills rolling back federal red tape than any President in American history. You’ve unleashed American energy. You’ve spurred an optimism in this country that’s setting records.
But you promised the American people in that campaign a year ago that you would deliver historic tax cuts, and it would be a “middle-class miracle.” And in just a short period of time, that promise will be fulfilled.
And I just – I’m deeply humbled, as your Vice President, to be able to be here. Because of your leadership, Mr President, and because of the strong support of the leadership in the Congress of the United States, you’re delivering on that middle-class miracle.
There’s more but fair use and all that. Plus I didn’t want to vomit.
Moderating
Accusations of trolling are not allowed outside the Pit.
You remember the part in Jaws where the mayor finally has to admit the shark must be killed and the beaches closed, and he’s in shock and shaking as as gives Chief Brody permission to do it? That’s because he finally saw the shark could eat people.
Republicans have been insultated from the QAnon-loving Trumpist droolers these last four years. They were an abstraction, votes in a spreadsheet. But today they threated Mitch et al. so now that they’re personally in danger, they’re shaking and looking around for Quint, Hooper and Chief Brody.
Yeah, Pence doesn’t get a single cookie for saying good things after the last four years. Still, it was the right speech to give.
Just heard Markwayne Mullin on NBC. He contended that the majority of the “protesters” were “peaceful,” and that the actual break-in of the Capitol was conducted by obvious “agitators.” He stopped short of saying they were Antifa, but my dog is currently suffering from tinnitus thanks to that whistle.
Damned if I didn’t get a little chocked up by Turtle man just now. Never expected that.
Still hate him.
I remember Kent State as horrifying, blood-chilling. Of course that may have been because I was a 20 year old college student at the time. Could easily have been me, a liberal, uppity woman in a conservative Southern state.
Listening to Senator Schumer, I kind of wish to be around in a hundred years so I can read about today’s events in American history books.
I do not like Schumer, would have happily voted him out (well, in a primary) when I lived in New York, but again, a decent speech.
He will be out of office in a few days, and can then be charged.
Isn’t the maximum penalty for impeachment to be booted out of office, and forbidden to hold office again? No point in that. He’s out in a few days anyway. Criminal trial is much better.
I’ll take your word for it on court-martial.
Even if he’s right, and they were largely peaceful - what was their goal? To have the election ignored and a coup making Trump president for life peacefully is totally cool?
