6 January 2021; A Day worth a Thread

My source, NYT, says

The woman in the video appeared to climb onto a small ledge next to a doorway inside the building immediately before a single loud bang is heard. The woman, draped in a flag, fell to the ground at the top of a stairwell. A man with a helmet and a military-style rifle stood next to her after she fell, and shouts of “police” could be heard as a man in a suit approached the woman and crouched next to her.

I don’t even care anymore about exactly when the votes will be counted, it will be done. More interested in exactly what happened today. How were the rioters able to get into the Capitol so easily, why was the police presence so inadequate, how coordinated were the rioters plans, was there one plan or just a loose confedeation of dunces, taking selfies while committing sedition.

What is the limit on posts in a thread? Maybe this could all be continued here. Or maybe another thread - What the fuck happened on Jan 6 and why?

Capitol is Federal land, so attacking it is a federal crime. Anyone else thinking pardons all around?

I predict this may outlast the clusterfuck thread.

From CNN, the feds blame bureaucratic bickering.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser had also written to Rosen and other federal officials demanding that federal agencies not deploy a heavy presence to the city, as they did during the summer, and assuring that Washington’s Metropolitan Police, along with a small detachment of National Guard service members, were ready for the day’s protests.

“The District of Columbia government is not requesting other federal law enforcement personnel,” Bowser wrote, “and discourages any additional deployment without immediate notification to, and consultation with MPD if such plans are underway.”

I don’t want to quote the whole article but another major point is that the Capitol Police didn’t ask for assistance until the protesters breached the perimeter.

It is certainly growing faster.

Thus far only dc mayor has given a press conference. Nothing from law enforcement. Which is very disconcerting.

I think the problem is that the Capitol Police deal with protest groups of this size all the time without much trouble. The difference this time is that they were dealing with insurrectionists, not protestors.

It seems I saw a different angle. Still, hard to see in the video below why this particular woman was shot and not any of the other people there (of which there were a lot). I am spoiler tagging the video because of content…you will see the woman who was shot if you watch the video in that article:

FOX News narrative already taking shape - Democrat-run District of Columbia Responsible for Breach of Capitol Building. President Trump Encouraged Peaceful Protests About Stolen Election. DC Mayor Refused Support to Deal with the Few Rogue Rioters Who in No Way Represent MAGA.

Congressman Tim Ryan, who is in the committee that funds the Capitol Police, is saying there will probably be some firings after today.

Too soon to make any final judgments, but MSNBC played a couple of cell phone videos that showed individuals clearly noted to be ‘Capitol Police’ simply standing aside and inviting the rioters into the Capitol building. More than one police appeared to be complicit.

There are going to be investigations.

Are they suggesting mayors should make a habit of making deals with a few rogue rioters?

D.C. Police Chief Contee on the circumstances,

She was shot by a Capitol police officer, after “multiple individuals forced entry into the Capitol building, and attempted to gain access to the house and attempted to gain access to the house, room, which was still in session,” Contee said Wednesday.

no I meant deal as in contain, be prepared for, do something to stop it

BTW, not an actual FOX headline, this is how they will spin it. Anyone’s fault but Trump’s

There’s also a video of a cop holding one of the rioters’ hand while helping her down the stairs.

My bad…your grammar was good. My comprehension bad.

it is often the opposite for me, at my age

Again…look at the video. There were loads of people packed in there.

If the Capitol Police felt they were in danger and had to start shooting then why only one shot and only that woman in the middle of the crowd?

It makes no sense to me unless it was an accident or she was his ex-wife/GF/lover/drill sergeant.
