Yes. Very, very stupid.
And perhaps got really bad advice from their attorneys
Or from other people.
The best people.
Perhaps they count on being pardoned, possible or not.
I think they almost certainly do. And not unreasonably, given the GOP field and contemporary politics.
Of course I know how plea deals work, so this doesn’t surprise me. But seeing it in black and white did induce a series of giggles. I guess that’s a character defect of mine. (Tee hee!)
But Proud! You can’t dispute their Pride (in being stupid)!
Navarro found guilty on both counts. 48 hours from beginning to end of trial. At least 1 year per count and 100k fine.
No surprise. When you get a subpoena, you have to either 1) challenge it, or 2) comply. You can certainly show up and claim a privilege, but you cannot ignore it.
I hope they take him into custody immediately.
Is that a mandatory minimum or what could be imposed?
ETA: The two counts each carry a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of one year in prison, in addition to a maximum fine of $100,000. Sentencing in January
Chris Hayes (MSNBC) had on his show last night clips of a woman calling herself the Anarchy Princess relentlessly trolling Peter Navarro while he tried to speak to the press. I had tears of laughter streaming down my face. “Peter Navarro has busted shoes.” LOLOLOLOLOL.
He said there would be another presser tomorrow and she said: “See you tomorrow, loser.”
I was amused when Hayes briefly misspoke and called them “legal bees.” Had the pleasant image of a whole hive of angry little lawyer-bees attacking Trump and Navarro.
I’m dreaming of, “One year each count to be served CONSECUTIVELY. Fine is $100,000.00.”
So, on the plea deals, was the offer “…if you plead guilty to these charges, you will get less time sentenced. But, if you do not plead guilty, and we have to prove it to a jury, you’ll get more time sentenced.” Do I have rhat right? Did they think they had a good case to prove their innocence and reject the plea deal? Or are they “sticking it to the man” on principle (and are counting on a Republican (Trump) victory in 2024 that would result in a pardon? Either way, they’re delusional idiots.
I think that they, like many others are thinking is that a single MAGA follower on the jury would have hung the jury. What they found out and that others should take notice of is that even if a MAGA follower is on the jury they can be pursuded to follow the law when removed from their right wing bubble and placed in the company of rational people.
To put it bluntly: many MAGA supporters are herd followers who will fall in line when pressured by fellow jurors.
Yes.
But there were probably a range of charges brought and perhaps they honestly thought they wouldn’t go down on the most serious ones (terrorism or whatever) . In that case, losing at trial would be worse, but maybe not a whole lot worse than the deal offered.
The plea deal offered was good, but not tantalizing.
Contrast that to the idiot Peter Navarro, who committed an exceptionally stupid crime and had no defense whatsoever.
