And I highly doubt he likes to press wild flowers.
Deflower, OTOH…
So that Andrew Taake guy has been rearrested since the pardon.
Only the best people!
Stories about pardoned Jan 6 people who get in trouble again aren’t particularly interesting, because there were well over a thousand people pardoned, and in any sample of that many just random people you are going to have people get convicted of crimes.
I’m curious what percentage of people who were pardoned end up back in custody for another crime, and if that percentage is larger than the general population. I assume it’s going to be much higher, but I wonder if it’s dramatically different.
Otherwise, it’s reminiscent of the people who cite stories of immigrants who commit crimes and insist that immigration represents a horde of danger descending upon an unsuspecting United States.
Every crime committed by someone who was pardoned for their actions on January 6th should be laid directly at the feet of Donald Trump. Just ask Michael Dukakis.
It would be fair to look at the statistics, though. If 1,000 people were pardoned (that’s an undercount, but for the sake of argument go with it), compare their record on committing offenses with that of a randomly-chosen 1,000 that fit the same demographic traits. (Age, gender, location-of origin, education-level, etc.)
If I had to bet, I’d bet that the 1/6 characters rack up crimes at a higher rate, and faster.
Reasonable.
That’s what I mean.
I would bet that too.
There’s a big difference between them.
Trump is using the logic that if one migrant commits a crime, it proves that all migrants are bad people.
The Jan 6th releases were all people who committed serious crimes. The fact that they are all bad people is a given.
Ah, sorry about that—I took this:
…incorrectly, to mean you were arguing that pardoned Jan 6ers would be committing crimes at the same rate as an equal number of randomly-chosen people—not seeing that your second paragraph made clear you were NOT saying that.
Anyway.
The most interesting ‘pardoned Jan6ers’ story going forward may be whether or not they act to please the Deal Leader when stochastically set upon DL’s enemies. Musk is talking up Bad Judges pretty hard these past few days, even going so far as to dox the daughter of one, by some reports. (I’m not seeing a reputable source on that yet so will leave it in the ‘unproven’ category.)
If one of the Pardoned does a solid for Donald and Elon by committing violence on a judge, that should elicit…something from Republicans. Concerned frowns, perhaps.
I was more thinking of a “patriot of the week” award they might start up with a resolution passed along party lines.
I don’t think many would find that at all surprising. Those folks seem actually allergic to both integrity and common sense (despite Donald’s attempt to hijack the latter term).
I’m sure this was a typo but I could see them adopting it as a name for him.
Oops, yeah, typo.
And sure: he will officially be the EVERYTHING Leader! Even the Lead Leader!
The Art of the Deal Leader!
I think he’d want a more extravagant level of praise in there, such as The Art of the Deal Emperor.
Also though millions of us joke about Dear Leader, I think Donald would prefer something more intimidating, such as Dread Leader.
(Though I hope that something happens to keep us from ever finding out.)
Moderating:
The last few posts are far off track for what belongs in this thread. Please take the comments about what Trump prefers to be called to a different thread. And be mindful of the threads you are posting in.
Clearly not supported by law, but it’s not impossible that Trump would issue a new round of pardons for them that WOULD apply to any and all crimes they commit from now on.
Trump would love doing something that would outrage so many—that might be reason enough for him.
I guess they want to be pardoned for past crimes as well as future crimes, amirite?
