A Because I Know How Much My Life Fascinates Y'all MMP

Howdy Y’all! Sneakin’ in a post from sis’s place. We’ve been gossipin’ and drinkin’ beerverages. Life is good even if I is tahrd!

My BIL, his bro and a friend are startin’ up a bike (that’s motorcycle) shop. The excitement has us all buzzin’ right now. BIL is good with bikes so this could be a good thing cause there ain’t a good shop within about 40 miles of LaGrange.

I am all psyched out for him, his bro and friend.

Ok, that’s all I got for now.

Later Y’all!

Hooray! I managed to reconcile my business checking account in 20 minutes or less. I still had to make an adjustment in the end, but I think that this is the last one and that next month should be completely caught up and make total sense.

Well, that was Special. I’ve been doing the ambulance gig for 3 years now, and for the first time, I got groped by a patient in the back of the truck.

If she wasn’t a 50-something drug addict and alcoholic rhat looked the part, I might’ve enjoyed it even…

#1 son has gone to Homecoming!

Here are some pics:

Rob and Meghan

Aren’t they just the cutest couple? She is a very nice girl and he’s lucky to be dating her, IMO. Her mother says that #1 son is very respectful of Meghan which is a great thing to hear.

Robandbestfriendsinceage3 This is #1 son’s best friend. It is commonly known that they are married to one another and have a long standing promise to be each other’s Prom date. Bryan is dating a ravishing blonde, though, so perhaps plans have changed… Ravishing Blonde is the one in the teal and black dress on the end in the next photo.

It is misty cold drizzle outside. For some reason I got it in my head that tonight we set the clocks back. :smack: Off to bed soon.

[Charlie Brown]AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!![/CB] Canes lose 7-2.

Too tired tonight to tellthe story. Will reveal all tomorrow.

{{{{{{TatersFamily}}}}}} - so sorry about the daughter’s accident (but glad everyone is okay) and about the son’s car troubles. Gah! Sending good wishes your way.

I truly do forget from one minute to the next what I want to say in my posts. That’s why I need to invoke the Rosie™ signature, perhaps more often than I do now. LOL

FCM that does sound like a huge tank! At least you won’t have to clean it though … right? Thanks for reminding me of an as-yet-unfinished afghan … and I’ve got another to start on!

Glad you’re back safe and sound, Mmmms; hoping to get tales of Africa and Nigeria in the days to come, though. And Soapy’s purple volcano!

Rigs?

Bryan is in my table-RPG group. Or his clone is. Promise.

Up. Feeling icky. I wore high heels yesterday due to going to my friend’s memorial service and my back is hurting and I’ve got a general nausea thing going on now. <=== Me.

Cute homecoming pics, rigs.

I’m also in rosie’s sig mode. Actually slept well last night; possibly enough, even.

I was going to go down to Cincinnati today, but have decided it would be too stressful. Really need another day getting stuff done at home.

Back later…

Up, caffeinated, off to work. Might do my bowling tonight.

Bobbio has a girlfriend!

Help! I’s swamped!!!

No, not you, dear… :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway – send more hours. I know you have some, ‘cos’ it’s a lot earlier where y’all are than here. Stop hoarding!!!

I saw what you did there… :dubious:

It is now definitely tomorrow… :tap tap tap:

Soccer is a kind of football. You don’t really get fan-cred points if the snow isn’t piling up in the stands… :stuck_out_tongue:

Blurf. At work. Somewhat awake.

On the up side, it was raining at my house, but by the time I got here it had turned to snow! Woo! First snow of the season. It won’t stick, but it’s nice to see it.

I just read six pages of what you people are doing on a monday. I don’t even know what to think about that. Anyway… wake up when I wake upconsume remains of vodka bottle just because I drink on sundays and there’s always a little left the next morning. Stink up bathroom with simultaneous Camel Light/ bowel evacuation. Let my newly spleen-less dog out of his kennel and carry him downstairs while he gives me a disgruntled look from inside that plastic cone that’s around his neck. Check email/ facebook. Maybe see what ladies are doing free webcam shows today (since I’m already at the computer anyway!!). Kill time between now and monday night football with books and tv while keeping a constant eye on the dog who needs constant supervision for the next ten days.

I’m up and sipping my coffee. That damn cold is still hanging in there, although it seems to be migrating to my chest. I feel a hella lot better than I did last Sunday, though.

Cute pics, rigs.

We call you Bobbio for reason, Bobbio. Your groper must have heard about it.

We had a nice time with our friends yesterday. After dinner and drinks, **Mr. Taters **and I stopped to rent movies, and then we came home watched one. Well, he watched it. I fell asleep. It’s usually the other way around.

Not much in the plans for today. Hanging out around here, I hope.

Wow, I killed the MMP.

I’m going through another Getting Things Done jag and have been making progress using Microsoft OneNote (came free with Office 2007) and Excel (you can embed the document in OneNote). I’ve decided I own too much stuff, so I’m trying to work through everything and sort into various categories (sell, donate, pitch, shred, etc.).

I’ve frogged several items I had in progress because I decided I didn’t love how they were turning out and I shouldn’t be wasting my time knitting things I don’t love. It’s just not that hard to find better options. Most of them just need tweaks (bigger needles, for instance) or slight changes to the pattern. Decided I wanted to make this pattern as a scarf.

Back to cleaning/organizing. Later, there will be gardening.

ETA: no you didn’t, Taters. And hi, SO. When you figure out who’s hoarding the time, would you be kind enough to send some of the extras my way? kthxbye

Hugs.

Hey, I’m here at the crack of noon, eastern time! I’ve actually been up since a little after 5, thanks to Scruffy’s bladder, but I crawled back into bed and snugglied with my sweetie, dozing on and off till around 7. Then we got cleaned up and headed out for a bunch of errands - breakfast, WalMart, Lowe’s, gas up his car, West Marine for some aquarium plumbing parts, and the marina to check on our boat. It’s absolutely gorgeous and we should be out sailing, but his back has been bothering him so much, he’s wisely opting out of the boat. So he’s futzing with aquarium stuff in the garage.

The tank is 125 gallons. Yeah. Huge. He built his own filter system out of some polyethylene he rescued from the last wire mill he worked - it was destined for the trash, and it was worth something over $1K! And he’s designed the base, but I don’t think he’s ready to build it yet.

OK, since getting back from our errand-a-thon, I’ve emptied and reloaded the dishwasher, baked 2 punkin pies, put away some stuff, cleaned the cat box, and now I’m taking a surf break. I’ve got to sew the ends of the sheer fabric my daughter bought for her belly dancing veil. Hot pink and shiny - it’ll look lovely with her lime green coin-covered hip thingie - not a skirt, not a belt… I don’t know what belly dancers call their costume items. Anyway, my kid likes bright colors.

I’ve also got to make a pair of Halloween valences for her classroom. It won’t take long, but I’ve got to drag out the sewing machine and my basket of notions, and the ironing board and iron. Maybe I’ll make her do it. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Pies are out of the oven, smelling yum. Except for the spillover that burned on the drip pan. Better in the pan than on the bottom of my oven.

**Bobbio **- you stud you!

**rigs **- did you have all those kids over your house? Are you insane?!? They’re cute and all, but at that age, it’s best to avoid them in big herds!

Hugs all around, except a grope for Bobbio, because he seems to deserve it.

Or, life is fun in the house of two scientists.

OK. Back story. This semester I have a weird teaching schedule in which I am teaching microbiology on Tuesday and Thursdays from 9:30-12:30 and again on the same days from 5:30-8:30pm. Generally, I zip out between to see part of a soccer game, or pick up my daughter from school. But for the most part I am in my office from 8 am to 9pm. I get home pretty wiped on Tuesday and really wanted a soda. We rarely have soda in the house and I almost never drink it even if we do. But that night I wanted a soda. All we had was diet ginger ale for when my dad comes over and grape from a long ago kids party.

Grape it is. I pour it into a glass over lots of ice and it foams up a lot. I notice bright blue streaks in the foam and decide that someone has either poisoned my soda (welcome to being an impressionable kid during the Tylenol poisoning scare) or it has “spoiled”. I ask my husband who is used to calming my fears that food will kill me. He suggests that maybe the foaming carbon dioxide is causing the dye to change colors due to the slight acidic pH (he’s a scientist like me). This makes sense as many dyes are pH sensitive (think litmus paper).

Fast forward to Saturday morning. I’m cleaning up the kitchen a bit and notice another can of grape soda. I decide that I need to test this hypothesis that the pH caused the blue streaks (did I mention I’m a scientist too?). So, briefly forgetting that CO2 is acidic, I grab baking soda to see if the blue would appear as I add a base to the soda and raise the pH. As it foamed it did make some blue streaks and then as I added more baking powder the purple soda turned a dark, murky brown.

Eureka- pH did seem to influence it’s color! So I start thinking that for many dyes the pH reaction is reversible. As you lower the pH back down again the color will revert back.

I want to try that! So, I grab a bottle of vinegar (acetic acid) to drop the pH.

So, for many years I organized and judged elementary school science fairs and saw my share of 3rd grade volcanoes. How this memory escaped me, I’ll never know.

I poured a huge glug of vinegar into the glass and INSTANTLY it foamed up and started running sown the side of the glass, over my stove top and down the counter. I instantly realized what I had done and couldn’t breathe for laughing so hard, doubled over. Husband was sitting in the dining room watching and fell over in fits of laughter.

Satisfyingly- the soda turned PURPLE again after adding the acid!!!

So what do we do next? Clean up? Get on with our day? No…

We yell “KIDS GET DOWN HERE AND WATCH THIS!!!”

Embarrassingly, as I recreated the experiment with the kids and pulled out the vinegar, my son says “if you add that that it will foam up” and proceeded to add it slowly to control the reaction! Smart kid.

Too damn smart.

Could be. I know he was huge on WoW for awhile and might be doing something else by now…
It’s a small world!
Soapy–that is priceless. I wish I had been there. It sounds like something I would do…but I’m not a scientist!
