A Hammers and Chisels and Knees: Oh My! MMP (With Bonus Kitty Goodness!)

That’s great bobbio , now the Happy Ending will be when Maddy finds a good home.

Tonight was the 10th Anniversary of the gym I go to - it’s part of a big hospital complex near me (which is good for when us old guys get to workin and sweatin’, having an ER nearby), and to celebrate their anniversary they held an open house.

I wondered what a health club’s ‘open house’ would be like, so I took the Wife.

Got to see all the people I already see 4-5 times a week, except tonight they were all cleaned up and not sweaty or naked. A couple of the Very Cute Personal Trainer types said hi all nice like and the Wife commented that THAT was no doubt part of the reason I like it there so much. I said (to no avail dammit) that “dear, they don’t dress in them little dresses every day”. She said, no she imagines they’re in little spandex things. To which I had no reply.

Then we stood around the little tables and sipped champagne with a couple of the sauna/jacuzzi guys and she felt better knowing I spent part of my day naked with ugly old farts too. I guess that balanced things out for her.

Now, I’m about to close the lid on the laptop, have a last beerverage and set the alarm for Too Frigging Early, AM, when I get to rouse the gals and head to O’Hare for our flight to Denver then Tucson.

Next time y’all hear from me I’ll be in the sunny desert, debating on sunscreen numbers for my walk to the pool…

Home from work, hope I am off tomorrow. I’, gonna nuke some burritos, and have a beerverage(hefeweisen, it’s not just for breakfast anymore). I get to watch the Canes on TV tomorrow.

bobbio, glad things went right. I can’t wait till Maddy gets her new home(Third time was the charm for Maggie Wonderbeagle).

FCM, i just bought ice cream, want some?

HHoow aarree yyoouu ffeeeelliinngg HHaazzee??

You got off cheap. Last year, Sears wanted just shy of $700 to install their basic 40 gallon heater. (Nevermind fixing any shower drains!) Nuts to that, we said, and spent $450 for an upgraded model, and for the price of a few beers and burgers, a couple friends did the job. Of course, a large part of that savings was replacing the 18 year old heater on our schedule, rather than on its schedule. Most people call a plumber in a panic because they either have no hot water, or a flood, and get charged accordingly. Hopefully, you were similarly able to plan the replacement.

Pffffft - by the time you bought your ice cream, I was dead sound asleep. Hove very convenient for you!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I guess my body reset itself for DST, with the help of Brandy, the naggy cat. She came in around 4-something, which was really 5-something, and breathed in my face till I let her under the covers. Then she went away, then came back a little later, nagging again. So I just got up, found my robe and slippers, and took the canines out - it’s over 50 degrees out there right now - yay!

So far, I’ve reset 3 clocks. I’ll get the rest after my sleeping sweetie gets himself up and moving. I should take advantage of this quiet time to throw a load of dirties in the washer, but that would require me to walk all the way downstairs and I don’t know that I’m that much awake yet…

Happy Sunday!! <yawn> :o

Morning all, happy Sunday! Sorry, I forgot there should have been another obligatory drunken post when we got in last night after the big engagement party. Haze, I should just send you a copy of my diary and then you’ll know when to leap in and do those postings for me! There, you’ve been nominated for the job!

Much plenty wine was slurped last night and 'im indoors is still in bed apparently regretting the consumption of vanilla gin when we got home. Pah! He’s just a lightweight shandypants.

Today is a day of rest in Faerie Towers apart from the usual trip out for groceries but that’s only going to take an hour or so. Nothing else planned at all, except perhaps laying on the sofa fussing cats, drinking tea and watching crap telly.

Good Mornin’ Y’all!

MBG have a great trip to Tucson. I like Tucson, except in the summer. I’ve been to training there in the summer. It was hell. Literally. Which is the reason for training in summer cause it’s too hot to go out so they have us trapped inside all day. Gotta admit, smart move on TPTB.

Did everyone’s puter reset itself automagically? Mine did. YAY! I was also a smart bear and set all the clocks up (except on the dvd/vcrs which get automagically updated by the cable company) before goin’ to bed. The thing I really don’t like is it’s seven-thirty a.m, and daylight is just startin’ to peek through.

Good DST morning! I am caffeinating before church, then off to buy pats for my puter. I predict I will be much less productive than FCM today. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m (reluctantly) up. Really need to learn to sleep properly. Couldn’t fall asleep till late and now I’m quite awake. Maybe I’ll be able to take a nap later.

My laptop reset itself. Haven’t checked the desktop yet.

And I see even Hank herself is slacking off on the slightly inebriated greetings. Frankly, I’m disappointed.

More cleaning (does it ever end?) and some laundry and church and maybe brunch and then work. How fun! Anyone care to join me?

Back eventually.

GT

Doggio why does your puter need pats? More importantly, why do you have to buy pats? Pats of what?

Butter? Seems like that wouldn’t help, though.

Wow, I slept in to 9 AM today. Granted that if it was yesterday it would have been 8 when the ol’ peepers opened, but anything after 0600 is luxuriously lazy. To make matters worse, I fell asleep around 9 while watching Sean Penn’s version of All the King’s Men… BTW, what I was awake for sucked. Yeah, I’m a slug today.

Parts. I bought parts. The cat stole my “r”. That and I didn’t get to bed till 0200DST.

Blargh. I also was up until 0200DST and didn’t get to sleep as easily as usual, either. Dunno what it was. So I had my alarm set for 0730DST, but my body was all, “No, no I don’t think so” and I woke up an hour later. Then I went to help proctor the exam that started at 0800. That I have to grade parts of now.
Blargh. Daylight Savings Time can suck my clock.

VBob, excellent news! I’m glad the response was so quick and reasonable. And MBG is just setting himself up for more temporal confusion, since they don’t do DST in Arizona. Have fun!

Sorry for neglecting my obligatory drunken posts! I ended up sleeping over at a friend’s house because it got so late. Said friend had to go to work at 8:30 in the morning but with stupid DST we lost an hour so both of us were not happy in the morning. At least I managed to get a bit more sleep when I got home.

Must work on paper before going out to watch Casino Royale with friends. VBob, I’m glad to hear they’re setting things right. BooFae, next time I do my obligatory drunken posting I’ll do it for the both of us. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to hear that at least one person knows you were screwed over in that description, Bobbio. Here’s hoping they fix it on the website; the last thing you want is to be portrayed as animal abusers.

I took a day off from the 'puter yesterday, just because. It was a pretty day, so Papa Tigs and I went for a drive. We saw a whole huuuuge flock of migrating swans taking off from a field, gleaming white against the somewhat green fields and blue sky; it was simply spectacularly gorgeous! And then I came home and put my feet up and knitted. I’m trying to get a couple of projects finished; I’m the Queen of the Unfinished Project. Although a couple I didn’t want to do while I was too heavily drugged.

But speaking of drugs, this may not seem like a milestone to you guys, but it is to me: I took one pain pill at 11 pm last night, and then slept like a baby and didn’t need another pill until I got up this morning at 10 am! So I went 11 hours without any extra meds – this is Very Good News since, much as I appreciate pain meds when I need them, I prefer to not take them given the choice. So yay my knee, letting me sleep all night in peace!

It’s so warm and lovely here today that Papa Tigs is contemplating taking the puppies to the Bestest Place Ever. That’s right, the dog beach! They don’t care how cold the water is, silly idiots! They just want to SWIM!

Gah! You’ve all been posting like mad in my absence! Did you miss me?

Ellen, sending good thoughts your way.

FCM, your productivity both amazes and tires me. I wish I had your energy.

We had great fun last night; we didn’t win any damn money, but we had fun, nonetheless. We met some friends at a casino. The gathering turned into a rather large one, but we had a great time seeing some people we hadn’t seen in a long time. We ate dinner there and then went off to do some gambling. I lost $80.00 bucks. I was surprised and rather disturbed that I went above my self-imposed $60.00 limit. I was up 180 credits at one point. I should have quit then and there. My husband lost money too. The machines seemed really tight last night. On the other hand, some guy won six grand on one of the dollar machines. I wish it wouldn’t have been me! I only play the nickel and penny machines though. Yeah, I’m cheap.

Bobbio, I’m glad to see you got a reasonable response, and I hope they change the bio on Maddy. That was just plain ridiculous.

Other than that, nothing real exciting going on.

Hugs to everyone, just because.

BioTigs yay for sleepin’ through the night!

Doggio you know what they say… parts is parts.

I have what may become a very interesting week comin’ up. Yesterday I talked with my mom. My uncle (her only brother) seems to be in a bad way health wise and such. From the description she gave of some of his behavior and all, I’m worried if Alzheimer’s or some such has set in. He lives alone in a not real good neighborhood to begin with. For some reason he did give up driving and got rid of his car. He’s seventy-two and claims to be working but who knows where or if, even. He’s called mom up a couple times to ask her to take him places like the post office and grocery store, which she of course is glad to do. On Friday he called and asked to borrow some money, saying he wouldn’t get paid until Tuesday. Mom went over to his house and said it was filthy except for the kitchen which she says is spotless. If mom says it’s spotless, then it’s spotless, believe me. Anywho, for whatever reason, I can pretty much say anything I want to him and he’ll pretty much listen to whatever I say, so, tomorrow morning I’m goin’ up to mom’s and we’re going to his house so I can see him and the house. He has no family besides us and another sister who herself is very elderly (she’s the oldest) and wouldn’t be able to do anything. I hate to think like this, but, ya know, we need to know stuff. Stuff like, does he have burial insurance, does he have a burial plot, has he made any kind of arrangements. I’m also worried that we’ll have to force the issue of some kind of supported or assitive living arrangements, either voluntarily on his part or through whatever other channels we might have to take. I hate dealing with stuff like this but if something needs doin’, then do it we shall.

So, if I’m not real communicative much of next week y’all know why. Also, prayers and good thoughts for Uncle Marty would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to harsh the MMP with this, but I don’t want to start a whole thread on what to do with a weird uncle so that means y’all get to be the place I put all this. Makes ya feel all special don’t it.

Awww, sorry to hear that swampy. Hope you get Uncle Marty’s issues sorted out quickly. Lots of prayers and good thoughts headed your way.

Yay on the pain improvements, BioTigs!

Hi Taters!

Back from church and brunch and now it’s off to work. Woo and hoo.

There was more, but I’m not completely awake…I’ll come back and catch up after a while.

GT

swampy, despite all the abuse I love heaping upon you, I know you’re a good guy, and this just proves it. Good thoughts going out to you, your mom, and your uncle. And extra hugs for you, just because!

Well, our project is winding down. All the trim is installed and painted. The closet has a second coat inside, and as soon as it dries, we’ll put up the shelves and stuff. **FCD ** put up the roman shade brackets, and in a few minutes, we’ll put up the curtain rods. Then I get to iron the curtains. The last bit will be the electrical.

I find it hilarious that one of the ads that came up is for Budget Blinds in Mechanicsville! Eeeeeerieeeee!!!

Prayers headed yours and Uncle Marty’s way, Swampy. I have a couple of aunts & uncles approaching that stage; fortunately, there are other folks in a better position than me to deal with them. But it’s always hard watching people go downhill and have to make sure they have their affairs in order.

On a much cheerier note, we have our flights for New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival next month! Yeeeehah and woo and hoo! I cannot WAIT – both for the wonderful music, but more importantly, to see what’s happened to the place and check up on a bunch of people we’ve been thinking about ever since Katrina. And see how the old homestead survived. And doing our part to help the economy; I’m already trying to figure out just how much Community Coffee I can buy and ship back in a week. Probably a LOT.
