A Listful MMP

"Top o’ th’ marnin’ to ye!"
an’ the rest o’ th’ day t’ meself!

Looooooong day planned here - FanFest starts at 2, but I need to be there at 1:30 to help set up. That runs until 6. Snakes game starts at 7:30 (to a sold out crowd WHOO HOO!!). Then there is the jersey auction, where I will try to get Connor’s jersey. Then the possibility of goin out drinkin with some of the guys and assorted other friends.

Ifen I drink this afternoon as planned I may not make it out for drinks tonight!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day, all! I’m so Irish I feel no need whatsoever to wear green. That’s what happens when you’re descended from Donnellys and Kirkpatricks; you wear your heritage in your face. When I was in Ireland, it felt like everyone there was my aunt or cousin, they looked so much like my whole family!

I’m up and caffeinated and showered and all. My quad muscles are swollen again today – that seems to happen after therapy, with all the exercising they get – so it’s a quiet day with lots of ice for me. Ice is my friend. And it will be yours, too, Rosie, trust me!

It’s cold here, too. But at least it’s not raising, so the idiot golden retriever who lives here has gone out and turned into a three-legged statue in the back yard. I was beginning to think he wouldn’t yesterday. That idiot dog loves to swim but hates to go out and pee the rain; once during a tropical storm in New Orleans, he held it for over 36 hours, and finally only went after about the third time of dragged out by humans. He peed about three gallons, finally. So I try not to let him go that long. He made it about 18 hours yesterday before finally giving in to the call of the kidneys. Stoopid dog!

I am waiting for the repair guy to show up and fix my washing machine.
He should be here soon
When he leaves, I am going back to bed. So there.

Good morning everyone. I slept late today because I was up so late last night.

Soooo, I’m gonna finish drinking my coffee, then take a shower, then head over to MIL’s place to replace the toilet. Sounds exciting, right?

Actually, I feel like I could sleep a little more, but there’s far too much to do.

gt, as far as I know, my daughter hasn’t really expressed an interest in one particular school. The thing with going to the same school as her out of state friend is not a go.

It seems fairly nice outside, but they say it’s supposed to start raining. Yesterday, the weather was just beautiful. Too bad, I spent all day cooped up in my little office working.

I will also probably not be wearing any green. Just because I really don’t have anything green to wear.

$300 later - it was an internal valve unit, that apparently has gone bad on 3 other machines of the same make and model this week alone. But it is now fixed so, yay, laundry will be done.

My mom is going to be on one of those passive motion machines after her surgery, too, Rosie – she’s having hers this coming Thursday. She’s driving my sister nuts over getting ready to go to the hospital. To no one’s surprise, least of all mine.

A heart attack was just averted at the Tiger Den. I was telling my mother our travel plans to New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival, and I realized to my horror that we were returning at the same time we’re supposed to be at the Warner Theater in downtown D.C. for the Great Big Sea show that I managed to snag great tickets for!  Fortunately, we were able to change our flights for the minimum change price since the same price airline tix were still available. Whew! Man, that about used up my adrenalin supply for the day…

Wow, I can’t say I ever expected to see Metal Duck post here. And yes I really am that paranoid, and yes he takes full advantage of the fact whenever we are together.

I had completely forgotten about the whole Saint Patrick’s Day thing. Not a fan of beer, but I may be tempted to go out and celebrate my Irishness with my green [del]booze[/del] nerve tonic of choice, an appletini.

I think it’s interesting to see family and friends stop by. The two of you have very different voices (which is why this phenomenon fascinates me). Oh, and look behind you, I think that guy is watching you. :stuck_out_tongue:

rigs, if you make the containers correctly they’ll last years and years. We use vermiculite instead of perlite (3 parts peat moss, 3 parts vermiculite, 2 parts portland cement and enough water mixed in until the mixture just holds together). We made 24 for our plant sale. I didn’t make one for me, but when I left, people had started on their own. I don’t have a good spot to put them in right now, but eventually I want to find a spot where I can put several of them. It’s a good idea to make them in the fall so that they’ll be fully cured before you plant them.

I’m wearing green earrings.

Several of the ladies I was making containers are older and one of them is going to have a knee replacement soon, so guess what one of the main topics of conversation was? I found that I could participate in this conversation with much more competence than I could have just a few weeks ago. (Thanks BioTigs and rosie and everyone else who has chimed in!) One of my friends had her knees done two years ago. She’s very athletic and has been thrilled with the results. Her surgeon refused to do both at once. She had one done in November and the second one in February, IIRC. It was a difficult time for her because she’s used to being so active, but she was saying she found all kinds of projects to keep herself busy.

The saddest story was somebody’s daughter who is not quite 50. She is having major problems with her knee and her orthopod even winces when he moves her knee, but he says she’s too young for a knee replacement. We all told mom to tell her to get a second opinion. It sounds like her quality of life is really suffering and seemed obvious to all of us that it’s time for a bionic knee.

Hope that wasn’t too sensitive a question, Taters. I know that college where the friend is isn’t one of the options; I was just wondering whether she was focusing on something else yet. Lots of good wishes on that front.

I’ve been to Trader Joe’s and Penzey’s to stock up on frozen stuff, Greek yogurt and some spices and am now going to continue my cleaning frenzy.

I’m 53, and when I told my doctor I thought I was too young for a new knee, he assured me that they’re doing them more and more on younger people these days, and that as long as I’m not going to go downhill skiing or become a marathon runner, I have a good chance of my knee lasting many, many years. And I was assured by the folks at the hospital, too, that I’m nowhere near as young as some of their patients these days. Sounds like that woman’s orthopod is an old stick-in-the-mud! So a second opinion is definitely in order. It’s ridiculous to have your quality of life suffer that badly. I speak as one who knows!

Can someone please tell the Spacewarp to release Papa Tigs’ keys to the SUV? He had to borrow mine to take the pups out for a drive a few minutes ago. I’ve asked it myself, but I figured a little more assistance is always in order.

I think you’ve mentioned that before, MamaT. That’s why I was one of the ones chiming in loudly on the second-opinion side of the conversation. We couldn’t believe that any physician would tell a patient that she needed suffer from poor quality of life for another 10 years (the doc wants her to wait till she’s at least 60!). Makes me shudder.

If you’re interested, here are some pics of what I’ve been up to. The mirrored tiles are gone - YAY!! - but the wall under is purple - ick - plus there are 2 borders to come down - swell…

We moved our bed into the room we just sorta finished - no carpet yet, but we had a couple of old rugs to put in there. Tomorrow, I’ll finish taking down the borders, and **FCD ** will start stripping out the master bath. So for the next few weeks, we’ll be in a state of flux. Plus we’ll have to use the ugly blue bathroom, and wake up to the clock radio instead of the TV. And we need to pick out a color for the bedroom. And get new drapes. And new carpet for all 3 bedrooms.

But for the rest of tonight, I’ve got one load of clothes in the dryer, and other than that, I’m done.

Oh yeah - and the dots in some of the pictures are floating dust particles - **FCD ** was sanding when I took the pics.

Very nice, FCM, although that purple wall is pretty awful. Still, even temporarily I suspect it’s better than the mirrored tiles. Why did people commit so many decorating sins in the '70s particularly?

GT, the “no knee replacements before age 60” is old guidance. It’s changed in recent years. That’s one that was quoted to me just a few months ago by a nurse friend, so it’s still very prevalent. But a smart doctor looks at the patient, not the calendar, to determine when to do something. It may not be the easiest joint to replace a second time, but I figure in 20-30 years, when and if I need it, they’ll have figured something out!

I am giving up. This cold, damp weather has just made me achy and miserable all day. My nice comfy bed is calling me, with a warm and snuggly kitty to drape across my lap and a book and/or knitting to entertain me. Goodnight, all!

**MamaTigs ** - at one time, the whole bedroom and bathroom were painted that loverly purple. *<shudder> * In fact, there’s a patch behind the toilet that’s still purple. And under the border, it’s also purple. So I’m going to have to prime before I paint. Oh well…

If we’re interested? Of course we’re interested! Looks like a lot of work. That last picture looks like it has multiple special effects, what with the dots and the spots where (I assume) the mirror adhesive used to be.

I’ve had dinner (gnocchi and also some salad) and am considering dessert. Need to sort out some laundry and start cleaning out some drawers and closets. (It’s time to get rid of stuff I don’t actually wear.)

We’ll see what else I can get out of the way.

Where is everyone today? Celebrating the holiday, I suppose.

I’ll check in again after a while…

'Lo, all. I am back from a day of errands–I still need to get something hostessy for the French family that will host my daughter. The mother sent pics of the kids–Benjamin (the 16 y/o) is cute. (and he looks 19). The daughter, who is 11 is adorable, as is the 7 year old son. We sent them pics of our kids, too–and one of the house.

Here is a pic of our house in the snow (but the roof is cut off, for some reason):

The Rigby Estate

Hope that works-I’ve never sent pics to here before…

I am most likely climbing into bed soon. I haven’t felt right all day–not sick, but sooo tired. I would like very much for my work situation and my domestic one to get settled. I think that work will get settled before home-life, though.

Oh, and I’m Protestant Irish, so I don’t celebrate this Catholic holiday. I’ll hoist a beer (ale?) on July 12, William of Orange Day–which also happens to be my brithday!

OK, I tried–how does one get a pic over here? Oh, never mind. It worked.

** ERIN GO BRAUGH!!!**

'Twas a wonderful St. Patrick’s celebration at church. Much corned beef and cabbage, root veggies, Irish stew, soda bread and other stuff, not to mention green beer was consumed. This is done as a celebration, not a money maker so the hope is to break even. However, preliminary counting of tonight’s take looks like a surplus of eight hundred big ones. WOOHOO!!!

Oh, and yep, indeed I consumed much green beer, so in honor of Haze here’s a punkin’ drost…
I LEVO UYO GYSU!!!

Just got back from the airport, am done dumping the dirties in the laundry (for tomorrow), hanging the cleanies, ordered the pizza, pet the kitties (they missed us, especially Cuervo of course, but really all of them…) and am now cracking the St. patty’s day Beevererages…
Oh, and rigs - the cubbies took some gas yesterday against the Sox. It was 90. Sunscreen was not used, instead I used the # 4 SPF, Deep Dark tanning goop.

I am savage.

What does that mean? The bit about taking some gas(?)

Glad you’re home in one piece. 90 is horrid–better you than me. It was a brisk 38 today with a chilling wind, but sunny. I liked it.
Off to bed. I have nothing to read and no homework to do. I am at a loss as to what to do with myself!

I’m home drom work. I walked the dog, and am eating some deli chicken and having a

GUINNESS
DRAUGHT

and then I am going to bed, because I have to work all day tomorrow.

I’m glad your church came out ahead,b]swampy**

FCM, purple with mirrors? That’s as un-faaaabulous as you can get.

rigs, when in doubt, go pub crawling.
