A Listful MMP

The FanFest went very well, the Snakes won tonight 4-2, and I got Connor’s jersey at the jersey auction! I’m a very happy SCL!

When I first looked into joint replacement, I had only just turned 41. The first surgeon I saw said “you’re too young, you’ll have to have it redone in 10 to 15 years” I also got the impression that I’d run into that same mindset anywhere I went. I got angry. I was supposed to live in pain until my mid-50s? What about quality of life? I then got the name of a surgeon from someone in the chorus, he had done her knees and she was happy as a clam. (at the time I thought only my knees were bad)
I met with the surgeon and he told me that he did not take age into consideration, only the severity of the joint damage. I told him that my hips were starting to bother me, too. He looked at them and said “we’re doing the hips first, otherwise you won’t be able to rehab properly when we do the knees” He used a titanium prosthesis that should last me 40 years or more. That was 6 years ago. The stuff they use now is even stronger and I was told my new knees will outlast me.

In the course of 12 hours I have gotten drunk, gotten hungover, sobered up, gotten stoned, and again sobered up. It’s been a looooooooooooooooong day, but a fun one. Hope everyone had as fun a St Patty’s Day as I did!

Rigs, I can get a job after I get my MA - they let me work for one year after graduation.

I just wanna say hey, thanks for the thoughts, and I hope everyone had a great St. Patrick’s day. I am still stuffed on corned beef with boiled carrots, potatoes, cabbage and onions. No soda bread to be found at the store, and just because I told the skiffman to check to see if the bakery had any Leprechaun Pie left he now believes that soda bread, too, is a hoax. Anyone have a tried and true recipe?

The arm is looking better, but all things considered it’s gonna have to look a helluva lot better before it looks good. Apparently while the P.A. (who is fantastic) was telling me to scrub the crusties off and let the water run on it as hot as I could stand it I was not paying attention to the neuropathy. So, on top of the doubly infected cat scratches, I scalded the bleep out of it. :o :smack: So now the protocol is more (different) antibiotics, silvadene cream and wrapping it. No more scrubbing. There is a nasty flu going around and as I was exhibiting some of the symptoms my doc walked in and after listening for a couple of minutes asked me if I wanted The Shot. I acquiesced, as The Shot cures all ills. Really, I swear! My arm is really ugly, the cat scratches are a dusky mauve under bright red scalded skin and the beginning of flakeage. It’s not raw anymore, but it feels as if I have exactly one layer of dermis…it’s still very owie owie owie, and I am still even more gimped up with a bum arm on top of everything else. Monday begins week five of this happy crappy. Oh, yeah SCL I am affected by hair, dander, and any scratch, although I have never reacted this badly before. I have trained the cats to (mostly) stay off my pillows and I am always avoiding scritiching them to the point of hair flying, otherwise I have to hit the albuterol.

Its still winter here, and we are beginning to have some bad cabin fever bust outs. More than the average deaths, a bad suicide by a professor at the community college, and my #1 daughter’s best friend since 1995ish was pregnant along with #1 daughter, something they have dreamed about since middle school. Well, best friend’s baby died at about 6 weeks, she just found out on Thursday, and given the option of a D&C or the abortion pill, she chose the latter. It’s very sad, but as I told her we women lose many more pregnancies than was formerly thought, thanks to home pregnancy tests and all, and if there was something not right it’s best for the baby to go back home now. (I am trying very hard to not be obnoxious with my own beliefs.) Still many tears are being shed by all of us who love her.

Well this is longer than I thought I would be able to write, but my arm is hollering at me, so back to my own pillow fortress (such an apt name for it, rosieposie) and settle in with the current psycho serial stalker book and some kiddie style cranberry juice. (sans vodka) Hopefully my arm will heal enough to allow me to keep up next week. Hugs, prayers, thoughts, oohs and awws where appropriate, I miss you guys somethin fierce, TTFN!

Happy way-early Sunday morning! I’ve been mostly awake for 2 hours now, but I didn’t drag myself out of bed till 30 minutes ago. Critters have been out then fed. Email from my goofy sis has been answered, and MMP has been caught up on.

It was weird sleeping in the guest room last night. It really confused the critters, although Brandy managed to find her way to my pillow and under my covers. What I really miss is having a TV in the bedroom, but there’s no space in the guest room with our big ol’ king bed in there, and no cable outlet there either. So until the master bed/bath work is done, we’ll be waking to radio instead of channel 7 news. I did get a good signal on a classical station, so we can awake somewhat gently. Out here in the boonies, there aren’t a lot of good stations to be had.

Well, **FCD ** is up - let the demolition begin.

Morning! I am up and having coffee before work. I’ll type up the MMP after work.

Hey, kai, we were wondering where you were. Here are some soda bread recipes.

FCM, you might not wake up too gently, if the classical station plays “The 1812 Overture”.

Haze, swampy, MBG, how are your heads feeling this morning? :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi kai! Sorry about the continuing cat scratch saga. Hope this round of meds gets you over it. Here’s a whole page dedicated to Irish Soda Bread.. With links to recipes, of course. (Take that, Skiffman! :D)

rosie, sounds like you’ve got a smart surgeon. Yay!

Gotta go do laundry!

GT

Happy post-Paddy’s day!

How are your heads today?

It was our friend Brian’s birthday yesterday so we all went out for drinkies…and the chosen meeting place was an pseudo-Irish chain pub called O’Neills. It was packed! Absolutely, totally completely packed. So we stayed for one drink and went next door to another put which had a much better selection of beerverages, and a bit more space.

We managed to catch the last train back home, stopped off at the Posada for one last drink and then got a taxi back to Faerie Towers - 'im indoors decided it was time for a kebab which he then had to share with Shadow. Ophelia, quite sensibly, will have no truck with that revolting stuff.

I may have to get an appointment to see a doc soon - I haven’t been able to hear properly in my right ear for three days now. You know when you’ve had your head under water and your ear is full of it? And you’re waiting for it to ‘pop’? That’s how it feels. And it’s a bit painful. Am not a happy Fae.

Oh, and hello FunkyDucky !

My head is fine. I will have a couple of pints tonight, at home. No drinking or bar-hopping yesterday because I am allergic to the surly obnoxious drunken frat boy types, especially in crowded bars, and the people the bars are crowded with on St. Pat’s are all SODFBTs.

Happy day after St. Pat’s, everyone!

Hi, LiLi! We miss you! QD has been filling us in a bit on how you’re doing, but it’s just not the same. I miss your dancing class descriptions, even if they do make me hurt just to think about…

Sorry the arm is continuing to give you so many problems, kai. Here’s hoping it clears up quickly. Finally.

I don’t know if my new knee will outlast me, Rosie, but even if it only lasts 25-30 years, that’s still a good long run and at that point they’ll probably have some way of cloning personal knees or something, the way medicine keeps progressing. Sounds like your surgeon thinks like mine – it’s all about quality of life. If you’re in chronic pain and can’t do anything, life isn’t a whole lot of fun, no matter what your age!

It’s sunny but cold here this morning, so I’m nesting. I have no idea what I’ll do today except stay indoors and stay warm. Although I might try going for a short walk with Papa Tigs and the dogs; I should be up to it, and with him along I’ll have backup in case the dogs get too excited over a Killer Squirrel or something and I have trouble hanging onto them without hurting my knee. We shall see. First I have to persuade Papa Tigs that he wants to take the dogs for a walk, which may be the hardest part of the whole exercise!

I Awoke this morning to the scrape/scrape/scrape of my neighbor shovelling his back patio - I think he intends to grill somehing for dinner. :dubious:

This evening we are having a dual birthday dinner at Legal Seafood for a friend born on the 17th (named Patty) and another born on the 19th* (named Joseph). There will be 10 of us dining tonight, the last 2 of our circle had a prior committment.
But before I go out, I have to scan the copy of the round robin novel I mentioned several weeks ago (the one with the vampire spice rack and redheaded female ninja). It’s Joseph’s copy and he lent it to me on my birthday six months ago. I will clean it all up, that is fix the grammar and spelling errors (I don’t think I could ever clean it up continuity-wise - we had tried at one point) and if you’re really good, and eat all your veggies, I’ll post some of the better snippets. (the scanning wil take me at least an hour and a half, it’s longer than I remember)

Meanwhile, it’s sunny here, which is good. What’s left of the snow/ice/slush/dreck/ooblech will melt away. My tenant was nice enough to clear my driveway, walk, and stoop, so I am giving him a discount on his April rent.

I think I shall hit Catherine’s after my hair appointment this afternoon and get something nice to wear to dinner.

Later all - have a pleasant Sunday.

*for those who don’t know, March 19th is St Joseph’s day

Morning all! Boy was that corned beef and cabbages good last night - yum! And we had soda bread too. Very tasty, let me assure Skiffman. Sending healing thoughts to your arm, btw, Kai.

Glad to hear that your St Paddy’s festivities turned out so well, Swampy and especially that a good time was had by all - that’s the best thing, isn’t it? And thanks, FCM for the info on that fair in May; I’ll try to make it there! I’d love to see your wares! And a welcome home to MBG - what a shock the temp change must have been, although I’ll be Cuervo was glad to see you. BooFae, sounds like you may have “swimmer’s ear,” which I’ve had from time to time; my ears are very sensitive to water intrusion now so I have to make sure that I get -all- the water out after showering!

I know I’m forgetting things! laughs Oh yeah, thanks GT for the words of encouragement - my poor elderly brain goes into overload mode more and more frequently these days. And FCM, I kinda liked that lavender-y purple … no really. Good luck with the make-over, btw (I watch News4 Today and don’t know if I could give it up in the AM! LOL).

Back from yet another trek to Lowe’s. We were going to get drywall sandpaper and some primer. Then we saw the sink that we want for the master bath, so we got that. And for good measure, I tossed in some more paint roller jackets. **FCD ** is now sanding the spots on the purple wall - yep, they’re from the tile adhesive pads. Once he’s done, we’ll take the bathroom door down, empty the bathroom, take the mirror off the dresser, and continue working. I’d like to finish removing the border today.

We also pretty much figured out how we’re going to do the shower in the master. We also picked out the floor tiles that we want, and we’ve discussed the paint for the bedroom and the bath. One contender is dark green, but I’m not sure. And I have to say I do like the particular shade of purple, but not for walls. Better as a fabric accent or something. However, having to cover it is not my idea of a good time.

In fact, stripping the border off isn’t my idea of a good time either, but it’s gotta get done, and I’d rather do that than tear the bathroom apart.

And once we attack the blue bathroom, we’ll have a blue commode and tub that’ll be free for the taking, so if any of you want to do some retro decorating, you know where to come… I’ll throw in the mirrored tiles for free!

Good morning all, hope everyone is having a pleasant day.

The toilet replacement went just fine and MIL now has a toilet that flushes properly. Her old toilet was 50 years old and was just giving up the ghost.

We didn’t do anything exciting otherwise. Some friends came over in the evening and we watched The Departed. That was an outstanding movie.

gt, no worries about your question. I didn’t find it insensitive. I wish my daugher would start expressing interest in a particular school so we can start doing what needs doing.

Well, I guess I should get my coffee now. It’s finally done.

Am not hungover, thankfully - I got past being hungover last night. I stopped drinking around 5, I think - that was when I had my second shot of Jameson’s. I almost wish I hadn’t stopped because I had a headache for like three hours after that, but getting stoned afterwards definitely helped get rid of that.

I need to do some practical work today, as opposed to all the academic work I’ve been doing this past week. Like clean the bathroom. Yay.

BooFae, hope your ear feels better soon. I’ve had that before and it is frickin’ annoying.

Hi LiLi!

Um, MY head is fine, I didn’t have the energy or desire to stay up all night and drink by myself, which I’d have been doing with the Wife snoring on the couch.

I am all breakfasted, caffeinated and about to go run some quick errands before I sit and watch the Salukis on Round Two.

the who on what now?

still scanning away - got 24 more pages to go. the down side is, I will still have to retype, because even tho the scanner recognizes it as text, Acrobat Reader does not.

I’m tired. I wanna go back to sleep, but I can’t

ahhh. finished scanning. time for a short nap. then off to the salon.

later, all.

Forgot to say hi to LiLi! We miss you and your belly-dancing! Can’t wait till you’re back again with us - I need some motivation to get me going back to my classes!

My old school in the NCAA tournament. I’m not a big fan of college sports usually, but this is my team, so I’m all clad in maroon and white, and all set for tip-off.
