And a beautiful day for humping, too. A bit cloudy but 11°C! Cooler than yesterday by a bit but still an excellent day to spend some time out of doors after this shorter but no less nasty winter.
Phones are mercifully quiet again today (so far). Must be the spring fever, but it gives me a welcome respite from the last few weeks of heck.
Swampy - Sounds like Unc’s pride is causing him to fabricate things because he doesn’t want to admit that things are as bad as they are, or that his failure is that significant. Either that or he’s involved in some questionable activities he doesn’t want to let on about. I hope you like your plots thick.
Sept 7? Damn…I happen to be busy the next 3 Sept 7th’s in a row!
(just kidding–I am flabbergasted that anyone knows what they are doing so far in advance). Yay for mini-dope fests!
I am shopping today! Tis spring and a young lass’ fancy turns to…cereal bowls. We have eight of them, but we never have any clean ones–so I am off to buy two more. Anyone who wants to volunteer to wash said bowls constantly can email me.
I also need to get:
laundry detergent
a white shirt that has a V-neck, but is also long-sleeved
sheets for #1 son’s new bed
a new side door mat
I like doing that kind of shopping. Another gorgeous day here in IL, someone must have ordered them special.
To add to this, I know first-hand how duplicitous the elderly can be if they think their independence is in jeopardy. It is very difficult to get them to relinquish control.
rigs, buying only two additional cereal bowls is going to help how? Are you going to hide them?
My next and final paper is due on the 17th April, after which there will be much happy dancing in Faerie Towers. I strongly suspect that more champagne may be involved too.
Awwwww. it’s cooling off in Chicago? I’m sad for you…
It’s going to be near 90 here again, and rumor has it there might be a cloud somewhere later. I only hope it’s moving quickly and doesn’t get in the way of my sun-worship.
I’m good that week in September, that’s right after school starts, and I’m usually pretty beaten up on that week, but I can get out for an evening, or something on a weekend.
Earlier, I mentioned a picture I took of a bathroom door in Nogales, Messico. It was in one of those maze-like shops with the guys chasing you all over reminding you that theirs is the best crap of all the crap in town. I turned, saw a bathroom door that said ‘womens’. Turned again and saw this
Just so there wasn’t any confusion where our gay friends should go, they made it perfectly clear.
So … does that mean gay men and women? Or do they not want lesbians going to bathroom there? And what about the transgendered? Especially those who are, um … “between operations?” Can they use either one?
I just listened to John Prine singing “In Spite of Ourselves.” I think it’s going to color the rest of my day. One of the more memorable lines: “Prison movies make her horny.”
About half an hour ago, when I went to lunch, I took a ‘back way’ to the caffeteria (the building I work in has been built, re-built, added on to, and re-added on to, for the last hundered years so there are a lot of different ways to get from one point to another. I have been working here for over 9 months and I am still occationally suprised to find a new corridor tucked away in a corner somewhere.). Anyway, I took one of these backway corridors to get to the caffeteria and I came across this great sign on a meeting room door:
Stress Management for
Busy People has been
cancelled. Sorry for the
inconvenience.
I couldn’t help but crack a smile at that. I mean, what better way to cause more stress in a busy person’s life than to make them reschedule something.
It’s still nice here in K-zoo, 59[sup]o[/sup] today. And even better, it looks like it is threatening to rain. I love the rain, especially getting caught in it during the day, so I hope that it starts to rain before I leave work today.
Meil’s b-day is on the 27[sup]th[/sup] of next month> I’ll make sure the remind everyone so that she can get the same big colorful treatment that she reminded everyone to give me.
For the record, I’m pretty sure I aced my midterm last night - go me! It took all of 7 or 8 minutes, I think. 6 multiple choice, 8 matching, 2 short answers. I looked at the syllabus - the entire course totals 1000 points. The midterm is worth 50. Yeah, that’s my reaction too. I did discover that I didn’t register as an audit student, but like I told Ada (the teacher) she could give me a zero and I wouldn’t care - I’m taking the class for fun!
It’s another loverly day - mid-70s out there and the house is wide open. Same for tomorrow, then the front comes thru and we drop about 30 degrees, with a wintry mix threatened for Saturday. Weird weather.
Gonna do some cooking this afternoon as soon as I’m done posting. Oh, and for those of you who were worried, my mammogram came back clean. Dunno about the bone density scan yet.
And that pretty much sums it up. Off to the kitchen…
I was going to ask the same thing. Why not buy another whole set of 8??
I took a 1/2 day this morning just 'cause. Well, really 'cause I get a week more paid time off than KeithT does so the best way for me to have some quiet time at home alone is to take a day here and there when he’s working. For sanity’s sake. He’s a wonderful husband, just a doll really, but he’s around All.The.Time. I lived alone for the last 6 years. All of my post-college adult life. I need space! Aaaaaaaah!
So I got some peace and quiet this morning. And here’s what I did:
Slept late. Yay!
Ate breakfast.
Cleaned the kitchen. (We’re having the first company in months for dinner tomorrow… having company over for dinner, not eating the company for dinner.)
Watched the last 2 episodes of 24 so I’m caught up now.
Got an oil change.
Went to the gym.
Took a shower.
Made corn chowder for my church’s weekly (during Lent) soup supper. It’s in the slow cooker, slow cookering now.
Ate a really fast lunch.
Came to work at 1.
Then at work I
Put out a brush fire
Made some changes to the forecast input. (I don’t make up the forecast; I just input the data and then muck with it. Don’t blame me when it’s wrong!)
Had my '06 performance review. It was very good. Yay! This week’s paycheck will reflect my raise. Double Yay!
Read the MMP.
Now it’s 45 minutes until I go home. Wow. I should probably do more before then. Instead of just reading the Dope.
I’ve had a less than exciting day. About mid-evening yesterday, I found myself with a brand-new case of Teh Intestinal Bug. So after losing about 5 lbs in about 3 minutes in the little girls room, I went to bed. And tossed and turned and burped for many hours. I think I finally got to sleep about 2 am.
So this morning I got up late, and this has been my day thus far:
Called in sick to PT – they could hardly wait till I finished saying why I was calling in sick before telling me to PLEASE stay away.
Went back to bed with my knitting.
Drank coffee and tore out attempt #1 at a hat knitted in rainbow colors for a friend of my mom’s.
Drank more coffee and tore out attempt #2 at said hat.
Watched mindless TV and tore out attempt #3 at said hat.
Moved out to the living room recliner, got caught up on a couple shows I’d missed while I was in the hospital, and finally achieved success with #4 attempt at said hat.
So this evening I’ll go back to bed and finish the hat. And then work on the next backed-up project. Oh, and tomorrow when I feel better I’ll take a photo of the scarf & hat I knitted for Papa Tigs, completing it just in time for spring to arrive. Oh well, there’s always next year!
And then I’ll go to sleep.
Is my life exciting or what?
Rosie, in visiting with my doctor the other day, I mentioned that a friend was having both knees done but they’re being done a week apart; did he know the reason for that? And his eyebrows went up and he seemed quite surprised that you would be, to use his language, exposed to possible infection for that much longer. Is there a reason they aren’t just going in and doing both at the same time? I’m just curious – I assume your docs are as good as mine, and they always each have their own way of doing stuff.
And Swampy, of course I told them the photos were to put up on the internet. I believe my exact words were: “To gross out my internet friends.” That’s probably why Cute Young Assistant didn’t want to be in the photos, although trust me, he’s pretty easy on the eyes!
Sounds like things with your uncle are difficult. Good luck – that’s a tough situation to be in no matter what ends up happening!
And now to turn the 'puter off and go back to the living room recliner. On my way back to beddy-bye.
Dinner was stuffed cabbage, but without stuffing cabbage. I mixed up the stuffing, chopped up the cabbage, and layered in like a lasagna, then baked it. **FCD ** mentioned that it would have been even better with chunks of N.O.T. and carrots - I’ll try that next time.
I also made a big batch of sketty sauce - some for tomorrow, some for the freezer.
And that’s it for the night. We’re both pooped and we’re going to bed early.
Tigs - It’s because of the risk of infection that they are doing them one at a time. He’s going to watch the one for a few days to make sure it’s safe to do the second one. Also, he’s doing the right one first - and I’ll be on “the machine” as soon as I wake up in recovery - so that I can drive sooner. The rehab facility is in the same building, and it’s the best one on Long Island.
As for my surgeon - he’s been doing nothing but hips and knees for over 15 years. In fact, he even went to Ghana to do joint replacement surgery, and he’s going back in May.
Café con leche
Cheerios with blueberries
PB sandwich
Carrots
Peach yogurt
Apple
Sketties with homemade sauce
I’m contemplating something additional for dessert. Maybe one of the little KozyShack flans I bought the other day.
Sorry you’re feeling poorly, BioTigs. Get better quickly.
I don’t normally plan that far ahead, but since FarAway Best Friend already knows when she’ll be dragging her group to Chicago, I was able to look at the calendar and figure out a tentative date. I think Al and meli should drive down from Michigan and taxi and KeithT should drive down from MN (OK, that’s a bit more of a drive, IIRC). And I just knew I was forgetting at least one obvious Chicago-area MMPer; sorry Hank.
If that cancellation sign had been for me, I would have been thrilled because it would have bought me some unscheduled time.
So, how’s the secret agenting going today, swampy.
Well, it will make me feel better! So there!
I don’t have cupboard space for 8 more bowls…I think between 5 people, 10 bowls should day, no? I mean, 4 of the five aren’t even here for 8 hours! (no, I am not using all the bowls).
Anyway, I got a mattress pad and sheets for #1 son’s bed-he gets to choose the comforter–and I got 3 shirts for me, but none of them are long-sleeved V neck white. (they were on sale, sue me!).
And I couldn’t find a mat, but did get the laundry detergent. Are you sleeping by now? I’m bored typing it!
I am in the strang position of not having any homework. This alone makes me paranoid that I have overlooked something, but I guess not…I think I am on spring break and don’t know it yet.
Off to watch The Muppet’s Treasure Island with #2 son. Yo ho ho!
