Target’s entrance fee was $22.05 today. I decided to dye my hair back to strawberry blonde, since my roots are starting to show. I’ve never had the nerve to go completely brown, I ought to try that some time. I’m just afraid I’ll end up looking accidentally goth if I go too dark.
I had a Portabella & mozzarella panini at Panera, with a chai. Their chai tastes like candy. 10 years ago, when hardly anybody knew what chai was, you could get really spicy chai, usually from a jug in the refrigerator, that had been steeping for days. Now it’s all sickeningly sweet, no pepper or ginger at all. They may as well call it black tea with lots and lots of honey and milk.
LiLi says hello to everyone - Easter is only a few weeks away and she will be back. GT -All the husbands are doing well to my knowledge, but I am particularly enamored with Attacks things randomly husband as he procured a glass cutter for me for FREE. Now I have no excuses to not take my stained glass course at the local community college. I am planning on making a celtic knotwork window piece for Mr. Lissar.
My evening has been uneventful. I was supposed to have DH’s aunt and children over for supper (they live in the same city as I do). I had planned mini pizza which they could create themselves, but they had to cancel last minute - one of the kids got an earache
In a small way I don’t mind since the kids can be exhausting. They are reasonably well behaved, except at dinnertime, where they run around, play with food, change their clothes and scream. Dinner there would make a person with ADHD tired. On the table there are toys, books, school work, and a DVD player running Transformers movies. I have heard from other parents that meal times can be so stressful they put on movies so the kids don’t realize that they’re eating  . This makes me dread the thought of parenting.
All this brings me to tonight’s list: behaviours I do not like in kids
Disrespecting adults (esp parents) by swearing, screaming, kicking, biting, spitting or all other manner of abhorent behaviour.
Children who are bossy (that was me).
Children who use crying to get unwarranted attention (within moderation).
Children who do not respect other living creatures or people’s personal property (such as animals). This is similar to number 1.
Now to those dopers who have kids, well done for you. If I ever have children (which I don’t plan to), I may tolerate more than I do now if it means the kids aren’t bugging me
Toodles,
PS Tigs - one of the Physios working with me said that surgeons are reluctant to do both knees at once to avoid the uncomfortable problem of having no leg to stand on. I only had one patient do both knees at once and they had good pain tolerance and was loopy with drugs. Now if we all had 3 legs…
So glad it’s hump day today! I don’t have any puns, though. Hah, I should do a food diary, it would probably surprise me what all I eat, and not in a good way.
Hope all is going well with Swampy’s Uncle Marty. And Bio-Tigs, sorry to hear that you’ve got a bug, hope you’re feeling better tonight. Hope that Kaiwik is feeling better too.
Anyone getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day festivities, with corned beef and cabbage on the menu? I already have a corned beef flat in my freezer, but may decide to get a bigger one. I know that Swampy is going to be cooking things up for his church … and probably guzzling a few beerverages as well. I usually put the corned beef in the crock pot, adding potatoes and carrots and cabbage towards the latter part of the cooking. I’m also going to see if I can get some soda bread - I’m not very good at bread baking, unfortunately.
Had a couple of Nestle mini-caramel eggs today … mmmm… Easter candy.
And Mother’s computer is a good reason to start sniffing glue. Ever wonder why IT guys are so much like hermits? We live in fear of visiting relatives, and hearing the fateful words “Could you take a look at my computer?”
Only listing I’m doing is to one side as my back is in three worlds of hurt.
There was so much to be done today, they cracked open the wallet and said we could work a half hour of overtime. By the time the IRS gets their mitts on it, I’ll probably only see five or six bucks, but money is money!
I managed to indirectly set fire to DH a couple days ago. Apparently, the grill was misbehaving and once the sparker finally ignited, there was a huge fireball that singed his eyebrows and beard. Ewwww…he was stinky and irritated. But, at least no actual harm.
My one weakness this time of year used to be the Cadbury Creme Egg. But one year I ate 4 of them in one sitting and cured myself. Of course that was the milk chocolate version. I hear they have a dark chocolate version now…
1 - No one is going to recognize me when I get done with my week of Sun-Worship.
2 - Off to din-din
3 - Who’s joining me for a beer?
4 - I’m feeling like some ribs and N.O.T’s for dinner.
5 - That is all.
Sorry to hear about your back, gotti. Hope it gets better soon.
Forgot to send get-better wishes to kai earlier. Hope things clear up soon.
My theory is that people who care about how kids behave are the ones who really need to have kids, QD. Makes me crazy to see the kind of behavior people tolerate (and model, for that matter).
We’ll want to see your creations, when you get to the classes, QD.
Oh, and FCM, of course you aced the midterm. We expect no less from you.
Not really planning anything for St. Patrick’s Day this year. I’m going to a fish fry Friday night, though. (I was supposed to go last Friday, but fell asleep instead.)
Did I mention I hit Kohl’s 3 times with my 30% off coupon? Found some decent work pants, finally (4 pairs, I think).
Well, I guess I should go do something productive.
Greetings galore from the glistening Garden State. Granted, glares gallop at glowing grades thereof, but gallantly I shift gears, gravid that you will glean glops of good gossip, or grasp that green gables and gentility grace the great ground supporting me as I gush. No ghost of grandeur, but a growing and giving glory, goes the Garden State.
Gee, wasn’t that great? (Yes, it’s a one-item list. Deal.)
Sounds interesting Heff. Are you taking a class or learning on your own?
How can it be morning already?
Things I’m doing before work:
[ol]
[li]Eating oatmeal[/li][li]Taking a shower and getting dressed appropriately[/li][li]Putting miscellaneous stuff away[/li][li]Walking out the front door, then up the street to the bus stop[/li][/ol]
For today:
[ol]
[li]CAWFEEEEEEEEEE!!![/li][li]send out pre-payment to appliance repair guy[/li][li]more coffee[/li][li]lunch[/li][li]yet more coffee[/li][li]chorus rehearsal[/li][li]SLEEP[/li][/ol]
We got a phone call last night at a time way too late to be polite from the grand poobah of the rescue group that took her. VWife talked with her for more than a half hour, and they went through an exhausting of detail clarification on Maddy.
She admitted that the bio was heavy handed, and was written by someone (a journalism student/volunteer) who had not a lot of details and with instructions to gin up sympathy. It’s supposed to be changed today; the website is updated every Thursday.
Apparently, we made enough noise and complained to the right people that my nastygram is an agenda item at the next FBRN board meeting.
OBList for today:
Thunderstorms
EMT class tonight, with a practical test on advanced airways
Hi, all. I’m feeling more human today, thank heaven. Teh Sick was not fun. But I still managed to get some decent rest, as well as get that silly hat knitted, so I’m feeling better now.
Today’s list?
Wake up at 5:00 a.m. to Papa Tigs’ alarm ringing…and ringing…and ringing…and ringing…
After 30 seconds, hit Papa Tigs to wake him up to turn off his alarm. He’s been working 14-hour days, and for some strange reason he’s a bit tired.
Go back to sleep for a couple hours.
Wake up to my alarm going off at 6:30.
Get up, caffeinate, get dressed, and go with Lapin Blanc to the orthopod about her sore knee.
Point out to Lapin Blanc that Cute Young Assistant is working again today.
Show off my knee for the orthopod (who’s the guy who took care of my up to the point he handed me off to the joint replacement surgeon).
Come home and recaffeinate.
Turn on my computer and try to actually do some work.
Start reading the Dope before I start working, and get no work done thus far.
Interesting, Rosie – my doctor seemed to think that doing the knees one at a time would actually increase your chances of infection. I guess doctors have as many different opinions as the rest of us, eh? But what is this “machine” you’ll be on? The only machine they had me on was my own feet, barely 12 hours after surgery.
And now I guess I really should shut up and get some work done, huh? Have a good day, everyone!
FCM – I hit upon the lasagna-layer cabbage rolls idea about a year ago, when my husband told me he just cuts the things up anyway and mushes it all together. You should share your fabulous idea over in Cafe Society, where the Random Cooking Tips thread is bubbling along nicely with many amazing ideas. One is the fabulous omelette in a ziplock.
Mindfield, my Palm desktop has gone completely haywire. I blame the DST switch. It’s not paying attention to syncs and today went completely blank. Any ideas?
I’m going to yoga today at noon, right here at work at a class I organized! I’m so looking forward to it!
Awakened to alarm clock, then realized “oh shit that’s my alarm”.
Caffinated
Picked up and delivered librarian friend to work.
Delivered Connor’s road bag to the bus. Discussed Mr. SCL’s Prius with one of the other players. Aside - I didn’t realize I was known to the players in general, just Connor, his roommate and a few that have been here for a while. I’m getting out of the Prius and one of the players walking from his car toward the bus says “new car, eh?” I was very surprised - I don’t consider myself to be a particularly memorable person, so that the player not only recognized me but knew I was in a different car kinda threw me for a loop.
Dropped book for PaperbackSwap off at the Post Office.
(In progress) Recaffination.
Go Snakes!
Tonight is the Booster Club elections. As far as I know I am still running unopposed. There are some hotly contested seats - President, 2nd Vice President and Treasurer. We will see.
There are clouds on the horizion and the weather channel predicts rain. If we don’t get it I will have to water the zinnas I planted.
VB, in spite of the late call I am glad you got some response on the horrible ad about Maddy. It seems they are taking you seriously and not blowing it off, which is a good thing.
Swampy, we are waiting on Uncle Updates! Hope things aren’t too bad.
Kaiwik - how’s the arm? I have had a cat infection that, while not nearly as bad as yours, makes me shudder in sympathy. Are you slightly allergic to cats? I am - not breathing dander or anything, just when I get scratched or bitten. You might be, too, and that may be what is complicating the issue. Hope it is better.
I brought 1/2 a cake to work, and it was gone in about 20 minutes. Buncha hyenas! It was yummy, but we were tired of it.
I just found out that our new parent company has arranged a welcoming event next Tuesday. They will bus us to a huge convention center, and we will get brunch out of the deal. Sounds like fun! We will be back by 1:00 or so.
I’m so ready to be gone today. The nasty storms are done, and we can look forward to 4-5 days of low humidity and temps in the 70’s. Woo-hoo! I’m off tomorrow, and plan to take the doggies to the park. Then come home and give them a bath and their flea treatment. Looks like spring has sprung around here!
bobbio, I must have missed something about Maddy. Linky please?
spats, GRRRRRRR!!
qd, that’s the reason why Og gives us tiny helpless babies. Gives us time to get used to them before they reveal their true natures.
rigs, now that you’ve done the cereal bowl math for me, I get it.
fcm, the stuffed cabbabe lasagna sounds nummy. Makes me wish Mr. Anachi didn’t at cooked cabbage. Why, yes, he IS a picky eater.
Shopping with The Princess[sup]TM[/sup] for the bridal gown was fun. I was actually playing “Mum” for her girlfriend AND her. The girlfriend is getting married in October and needs to decide soon. Her mother is a bitter divorcee so is not in the least helpful. I kept running back and forth between dressing rooms. Girlfriend thinks she’ll go with this . The Princess can’t decide between this one and that one. I have made it perfectly clear I like the ivory one. I guess you know how much my vote counts.
Last night’s dinner was Subway. Mr. Anachi had a turkey on white and I had a veggie on Italian spices and cheese toasted. Mmmmmmmmm.
