A Melancholy MMP

I am so out of it. I didn’t until just a few minutes ago see the Stephen Colbert segments about the trapdoor spider he wants named after himself. No wonder Mine Owne Alma Mater is having a fangirly fit.

I’m seriously tempted to set up a boxing ring during drop-add in the fall and see if I can sell tickets to have people fight it out to get into Jason Bond’s class.

There really is no other word for it! We’re downwind!

You know that feeling you get when you have a chest cold? The one in your neck that makes your skin feel itchy but scratching it doesn’t help because it feels like the itch is below the surface, just out of reach? The one where you feel a constant, low-level need to cough and the sensation of accumulated phlegm in the back of your throat when there really isn’t any, it’s just the inflammation making you think it’s there and no matter how you try and clear your throat you still feel it?

I hate that.

My cow-orker heard me trying to do just that a little earlier, thought I was sounding worse. (In fact it hadn’t gotten any worse, I was just trying to clear my throat once and for bloody all despite knowing it was futile.)

Anyway, I’m having nice hot tea. It’s very soothing. So is Dentene Ice peppermint gum.

Taters - It’s an uphill battle, and the Viral Army fights dirty, but I live near a pharmacy and I’ve a good mind to patronize it.

Cobalt Shades - (Or something’ like that) Mmm… sweet & sour soup. With a generous dash of Sriracha sauce, so it’s like hot & sweet & sour soup. I really should pick up some nice soup of some kind tonight for dinner. No Pho places on the way home though. :frowning: I could drop by the supermarket maybe, but I don’t want to pick up the usual canned crap. I want something cool and interesting. Maybe I’ll check out the Asian supermarket they just opened by me and see what they have. I’ve got it bad for some kind of Asian soup now.

Shadow yay on the weight loss. I say that cause I know that’s sump’n you’ve been wantin’ to do.

I’ve been at the pool. It was nice cause even though it’s hyoooooomid out, there’s a nice breeze blowin’ which makes it feel so good in the water. Anywho, I’m inside now and all showered. Ol’ y’all know who is showin’ up with pizza in a bit. He called and said he’d bring pizza cause he had him a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some. Hee. I love that term… a gnawin’ and a cravin’. So descriptive!

Sis will be here mid mornin’ tomorrow. Have I mentioned that I’m all excitated about that?

Mindude you need you some hot lemonade and honey with a hefty shot or two of whisky this evenin’. Repeat as needed til you feel better or pass out whichever comes first. Either way it’s all good.

Not yet! We have to wait very impatiently until February!

Just looked over at the dog, snoozing under the window. I have no idea how she can contort herself like that. I’f I tried to bend like that, I’d need to be slid into the back of the truck and taken for an emergency visit to a chiropractor.

Nah, I was thinking about your arduous commute…

I forgot about your February cruise – a real Bon Voyage on that one.

So a person here in the computer lab was having trouble printing a document. (It was a PDF file that set up as A4) and I told him he had to switch it and gave him specific directions on how to do it to get it to print on 8.5x11 paper because otherwise it messes up the printers and prints page one over and over again. Then he wanted print duplex, so I explained him how to do that. But on both counts he insisted I was wrong. I told him those were the only ways that I knew how to get his document to print, and if he had any other ideas, to feel free to try it out. After about 45 minutes and some swearing he figured it out using my methods, and sheepishly said that I was right. Now he’s muttering that he’s going to be late for an appointment, and I’m sitting here thinking that if you would have at least tried what I suggested, you could have been out of here 45 minutes ago!!! Stupid people. Why ask for help if your going to insist it’s not right without even trying it?

McUne- all you have to do is remember that most people are kinda, well, stoopid. Present company excluded, of course!

Mindy- if it doesn’t get better see a doc, OK? Don’t want it to become bacterial bronchitis. I speak from experience, sigh…
Happy day-- my fall class, which is very specialized and is always in danger of being canceled due to low enrollment, just hit the magic number to be safe from being canceled!

That means I can count on what my fall schedule will look like and make actual plans for lab etc. It is early in the summer to have this settled, so I am a happy girl!

Finally I’m caught up - whew! And I’m in a better mood today, if tired. Work was mostly meh, but I got out on time, so there’s that. When I got home, **FCD ** was already home installing the ducts for the bedroom and livingroom. I installed the boxes for the main kitchen light and the 3 pendant lights. I also cut the drywall that we installed yesterday to expose the electric box that I kinda forgot about when I told SIL to finish screwing the drywall in place. I also helped **FCD ** install the structure to support the 3 can lights in the nook, then I helped him reattach the duct that leads to our bathroom (he kinda knocked it loose a few weeks ago, which explains why our bathroom always seemed so stuffy.

Then I took him out to eat at a new (to us) Mexican place in Leonardtown - it was quite good, and a very attractive restaurant. We stopped at the grocery store on the way home to get some fruit and veggies - our daughter is bring home her 2 friends this weekend, including the veggie. In fact, I’ve got 2 batches of sketty sauce simmering - a big batch with meat and a small veggie batch. I need to get both pots into the fridge - they’re for supper tomorrow.

SIL has to work most of tomorrow, but the 3 girls will be helping us put up the sheetrock. They have no idea what they’re in for…

So I survived the week and I’m ready for another busy weekend. Incidentally, snowbunny, you’re way farther than we intend to go. I’m thinking maybe Rehoboth Beach. I’d love to go to New England - I love Newport - but that’s pretty far out of our budget.

And now it’s nearly bedtime. Maybe when I check in tomorrow, I’ll have some pics to post. Have a good evening, all!

MWAH!!

I’m glad you’re in a better mood, FCM.

I managed to get my hair done, buy the wedding present, and hit the grocery store. My roots are no longer peeking through, and I had her trim it up some too. My hair just grows too damn fast.

We were going to have to drive down with the groom and my MIL tomorrow, but my MIL changed her mind about staying the night. She, her friend, and the groom will drive down separately. Frankly, that makes me happy. It’ll be nice to have some alone time with my husband.

We plan on leaving around 11ish or noonish. That’ll give us plenty of time to get there with maybe a stop for lunch included.

I ended up at Wally world to buy the wedding present because the couple are registered there. I printed up the gift registry and this stoopid Wally World didn’t have about 75% percent of the stuff on the registery. I didn’t want to have to drive to another one, so I ended up getting the cliche wedding present. It’s on their registry and it was one of the few things this STOOPID Wally world had in the store. Maybe I’ll throw some cash in the card too.

Tonight’s chop-chop will consist of Those Friggin’ Good potatoes and some pork blade steaks that I’ll put a dry rub on and throw on the grill. It should be tasty. I’ll throw some veggies on the grill too.

Gee, I have the weekend off, since it’s my vacation. I’m watching movies.

Enjoy your trip, Taters.

Glad you feel better, FCM, I saw something at Borders that made me think of you: A bar marked “Emergency Chocolate”.

Yay for non cancelled classes, Soapy! Somedays I’m the Alphageek, and somedays I’m a walking ID-10-T error.

Yay for wight loss, Shadow!

Enjoy your trip, LiLi and [n]Mika**!

I know I’m far away, but I couldn’t help saying something anyway, seeing what my job is.

oglobaroy dukrne psto.
Y’lal neyoj it!
Did I mention my sissie’s comin’ tomorrow?

Ntiey neti Y’lal!

S.P. … Peslae d’ton ylel otrrwowm. kthmrx

He’s so hammered he’s speaking Pig Latin!

OMG a drunken Swampy post! I hope he doesn’t have a hangover in the morning!

Glad you’re feeling better, FCM; I’d send you some of my Dove chocolate, but it would probably melt in the computer!

Taters, just wondering where’d chop-chop come from?

I’ve been on an iced drinks kick lately. I have one of those 20-oz. containers with the flip top (sort of like an adult sippee cup, I guess! :D) and what I usually do is fill it with whatever I want to drink, stick it in the freezer until it gets good and icy (like slushy icy), then I take it out and drink it. I’ve been doing iced coffee and iced tea (esp. Indian chai tea, with milk & honey) that way and tonight I tried some orange-mango juice. It’s really quite good. However, you do have to be careful that you don’t leave it in the freezer too long…

adnay yaou snodha yodua knoyda! :stuck_out_tongue:

OK… I’ayma dukrnma… colsemay umapya.

dood!

I dopped a miniature Hershey’s Dark Chocolate into the dog’s water dish. I dried it off and ate it. That is all.

Okay. I’ve figured out what this viral army is all about.

This isn’t your garden variety rhinovirus. This is an army of ninja rhinoviruses.

You see, yesterday it moved into my chest. This morning, it was still there. When I left for home this afternoon it was still there. Between the time I left and the time I got home, the bastards moved back into my head! There’s still contingents left to occupy the lung and throat territories, but the main body of the attack force returned to launch a full scale assault on my nose, now that my immune system was occupied in the Theatre of the Chest.

They’re crafty and stealthy. They have had the most clever attack strategy of any cold I’ve ever had. They. Must. DIE.

I bought some Nyquil. I welcome the flood of antihistamines.

Soapy - Oh, I’ve had much worse than this. I just hate the runny nose and sneezing phase of colds. Well, the coughing is pretty nasty too, come to that. But I’m confident kick this one’s ass. No cold has ever attacked me and won.

Swampy - Can I forgo the hot lemonade and just run with the whisky? Seems like the quicker way to get where I want to be.

Rebo - Ewwww. Doggie slobber chocolate.

I’m going to hit the sack early. The more sleep the better, and best that I do it while medicated.

Poor Mindy. :: blows get-well kisses from a safe distance ::

We have a typhoon approaching this weekend, apparently. At least that means the temperature has gone down.
