A Melancholy MMP

I finally got some sleep last night. 12 hours seemed excessive, but I guess I was really tired.

I’ve been shopping for dishes this morning. I found some I like, but they’re really expensive, plus I can’t imagine fitting 8 people in my house, much less seating 8 for dinner. Dishes.

ETA: pretty dishes, Shadow!

Went out to get daylilies and came back with 6 of them. I was planning for a maximum of 4, but they had a good special and I got one for free for just buying and got an extra large clump of the coolest one for being the first customer there (also, I think he felt guilty because he was looking for one similar to one they were out of and this one was actually prettier, but at the very tippy top of what I was willing to spend. Also, I think I’ve identified 2 of the nameless ones that I got from a friend (they were among the freebies). I spent more than planned, but not too much more and am REALLY pleased with what I got (and they’ll still bloom this year!).

So, since it’s really hot out, they’re in a bucket of water and I’ll plant tomorrow morning. I’ll be moving a few of the existing ones to make room for a couple of them. Started to get the spot ready for them.

Need to go to the drug store to get a couple of items, then it’ll be back to working on my room. Woo hoo!

Back later.

Well, update on my dad–

bacterial bronchitis-- he’ll be in hospital for a few days. He’s in his mid-80s and pretty frail…

keep your fingers crossed for a speedy return to health…

99.44% I hope your Dad recovers quickly.

Am back from all the errands–forgot I needed a new wiper blade, so did that with the library round. No idea how to install it, but I figure I can figure it out–after it stops raining.

It’s just nasty out there–hot, humid, rainy. I hate hot wet. Lunch in toaster oven. And then either new murder mystery or movie or [del]perhaps I’ll see what it’s like to drink until I pass out[/del] a nap. (I don’t drink -well, sambuca about twice a year).

TH came in–he has found a ROOM for $600/month. Didn’t look at the condo I showed him for $800/month. Doubt he’s thought this through–with a ROOM, he won’t have the kids visiting him. I’m not saying anything–the days when I help him are over.
GT-can you post a pic of the window you want to cover? I’m  , but if I’m following you, you might want to do a stained glass panel that you can then take with you if and when you move. It would obscure anyone peeking in and also dress the place up a bit.

Had an unscheduled nap. Fell asleep for maybe 15-20 minutes. Guess I needed that.

I’ll take a picture later today, rigs. You can’t actually see through the window right now because what they did was put in a shower surround in the bathroom that goes over where the window used to be. They didn’t do it very gracefully, unfortunately. They left the window on the outside and you can see the insulation through one of the panes. Not very pretty.

Off to CVS.

Up and caffeinating. It’s too early to tell how the overnight battle fared because I’m still shaking off the night’s immuno-fortified encampment. Preliminary recon indicates that the ninja-rhinos were forced to give ground, pushing them back toward the Nasal-Sniffson line, though they’ve managed to hold on to a couple of strategic glandmarks.

Meanwhile, south of the Epiglottis, General Uvula S. Grant is reporting further successes. His troops managed to dislodge pockets of resistance from the bronchial passes, where many were driven from their bunkers and systematically defeated. He’s a good warrior, and his routing of the enemy was fully expectorated.

The battle continues to rage, but I am confident of an unqualified victory soon.

Herbs - Thank you – and yes indeed, ninja viruses. Their lung-fu is strong – but not strong enough.

Doggio - They cannot hold out forever. I just pray they can be defeated without leaving me with PTSD. (Post-Traumatic Strep Disorder).

GT - Humour is my coping mechanism. Like Hawkeye and Pierce on MAS*H, only with worse puns and fewer guns.

Soapy - Oh dear. You shouldn’t name your viruses. Then you’ll just get attached to it and want to keep it. I call mine “Vicious sodding bastard” so as to avoid that possibility.

Hank - Aww, thanks. Your contribution to the fight will aid in the success of the troops.

OH! I visited Oceans, the new Asian supermarket that opened near me. I WANT TO MOVE IN THERE. So … much … stuff. Lots of great Asian and Indian foodstuffs. Even packaged Pho. They have a hot table too – kind of a caffeteria thing, but with Asian food. So I bought some beef Pho, and I’m about to eat it because it’s time for N.O.L.

Waaaahh–I have a house full of sickie animals! SpaceDawg’s foot is still bad but at least now I have a bit of money so I can take her to the vet–but no time, of course. My daughter’s dog has a sticky, itchy eye she keeps pawing at, I’ve swabbed it out with a moist paper towel but she doesn’t want to open it and it’s obviously bothering her. Pratchett cat has a cold and is sneezing and wheezy and doesn’t want to play or move around much. I feel like the worst mom in the world! That and I watched a scary vampire movie last night, fell asleep for the ending then woke up when Himself let the dogs in and Widget was COVERED in nasty green burrs, which my sleepy freaked out mind translated as some kind of horrible parasites and I flipped a bit and had to brush them all out of him with a slicker brush, which he hates because he has tender skin but nothing else gets those fuckers out.

So yeah–good morning! :smack:

Taters, sorry about your windows–I’m betting you have a Ford. Good luck on that beach wedding thing, we have overcast this morning but it looks like it’s gonna warm up pretty good later on and the radar looks clear all the way up to Canada so you should be okay. If the wedding’s early in the day, though, it might be a bit chilly.

I’m sending healthy thoughts to Mork & Soapy’s Dad to kill the Mutant Ninja Ickies.

MBG definitely wins the no-hassle wedding sweepstakes!

I had a “small world” moment yesterday–I was visiting my son and a neighbor knocked on the door and told me he used to own my car! He did indeed confirm that the hole in the passenger door was made by a bullet, says his buddy caught it on the knee then it ricocheted off the ignition switch and lodged behind the speedometer–says they replaced the glass over it but never did find the bullet so it’s still in there somewhere. People have been giving me the “yeah rights” over that for years and it’s nice to have confirmation. I love my car, nobody messes with it 'cuz it looks like it belongs to a drug dealer! I told him when I replace the door I’ll give the old one to him as a souvenir…

Rigs, don’t the auto parts store guys install the wipers for you? Around here you have to tell them specifically not to, it’s a customer service gimmick I wholly approve of… TH sounds like he’s not thinking too straight–looking for a room is a classic “pity me” move, to my mind. He needs to pull his head outta his ass but I bet he won’t do it until after he’s tried living in a single room. That’s no place for a grown up who has a choice, y’know?

Yarr, I need caffeine, latez!

Okay, first time trying this packaged Pho, and I have to say: IT’S GOOD!

Maybe not quite as good as restaurant Pho, but still good.

It’s packaged in its own bowl with its own plastic fork and flat-bottomed spoon. The noodles are fresh-packed (not dry), kind of flat Shanghai noodles (actually, a lot like linguini), and the soup base, surprisingly, isn’t powder, but concentrated stock in its own packet. Took all of 3 minutes to make in the nuker, and the end result? A delicious, spicy beef with overtones of barbecue, a distinct presence of lemongrass, and maybe a dash of yellow curry

A++, would scarf again.

Break! Have patched holes on 3 of 4 walls and part of the ceiling. Need to patch the window frame and possibly part of the door frame and then I can start finishing stuff off, I think.

Missed sending good wishes for a quick recovery for Soapy’s Dad.

And a wet trout for TH, of course.

Back to the trenches.

I just assembled my new computer chair. I can now reach the top of my desk to type. It’s like I just graduated from the little kid’s table in the kitchen to the adult table with the fine china and wineglasses.

For an encore, I moved Hansel’s old cage out of my room, rearranged Bobbye Froggye’s table and now I have s p a c e in my room. I can get into my bathroom without squeezing between a side table and armchair now!

So of course Zeldadog stretches out right in the middle of the floor to take advantage of all this.

**Ivory **-- fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, and good thoughts headed your and IvoryDad’s way!

**Mindy **-- “get better” vibes going your way, too!

**Rigs **-- the guy is truly clueless. But that’s no longer your problem any more, which was I gather a major part of the whole thing to begin with. Let him take care of himself, or not, as he chooses.

**Aleq **-- did your son’s neighbor volunteer any details as to why he got shot up in that car? :dubious:

**Spaz **-- yay for space! Hope the drama with WOWCrack roomie ends peaceably (I gather there’s a better chance of a snowball fight in hell than his actually paying up on time… and that you aren’t exactly sorry about that!)

Sorry you didn’t enjoy the ballet, Meeks. Now I gather you get to take part in an opera! (or at least listen to a girl with a loud shrill voice  :D)
This too shall pass…

Assorted yays boos and how’s the head? to all and sundry that I’ve missed!

Ok, for a brief bit of viewing pleasure, here are a few pics of my side yard/perennial bed. This is where I am, when I am not [del]being amused by the antics of the MMP[/del] here.

howdoesmygardengrow? The hollyhocks were a complete surprise–they’ve never gotten that high. There are a few salmon, scarlet and peach ones that I prefer over the pink, so I’m going to collect those seeds come fall.

newhostabedbutitalreadyisdifferent I removed one of the hostas pictured, and transplanted about 3 very small ones from the front bed which can barely be seen in the porch pic.

likeourpuddle? Our lil puddle… but the butterflies and birds love it. It has a small pump in it, to keep the water moving–we used to have it splashing, but it evaporates too quickly.
I took more pics with this next camera (yes, I’m the last person in America to use disposable cameras–me no likey the digitals). More pics with more details once that roll is developed–and I’m on picture 10. I am become my grandmother and cannot turn in a half empty roll…

I made Buckeyes today–I am on a mission to become the Moby Dick of my town, apparently…

Sweet Christ, Swampy’s on a bender–women grab your children-kateybar the door; men stable your horses and sheep! Alert! Alert! The Bear’s been at the bar again!

If he’s that bad drunk, I’d hate to see him when Panama Red’s in town.

Looks like rain here. I napped, went on a pet food run, and got some poke chops for dinner.
Looks like we’re gonna have to change somebody’s name to swampbeer.

rigs, neat looking yard. Hope TH enjoys his room. :dubious:

**Soapy, I’ll keep Sudsdad im my prayers.

Aleq, hope the zoo gets better soon. Interesting car story.

Whew - pooped! Pics here - starting with the last photo on the top line. The girls are at WalMart, and when they get home, we’re having sketties! YUM!

They’ve got to leave around 8 tomorrow morning, and SIL has to work at noon, so after the girls leave, he’s going to help us move the 12’ sheetrock panels to the basement. With luck, **FCD ** and I can get most of the ceiling panels up tomorrow, since we need to return the rental stand first thing Monday.

That’s all for now.

I’m too old for this shit.

Linky please! Your description made me hungry.

Oh, and I missed this in my earlier post. And missed the edit window.

Since you overlooked me. . . again. . . this must have been addressed to me. My head is just fine, thank you. And yours?

I’m thinking of going for 3 in a row, but am at a loss for words at the moment. How unusual!

Hi Roo! I am officially saying hi to you on behalf of Lunch. From now, I will take on that responsibility! Someone has to!

(sorry Nooner!)

Thanks to everyone for well wishes for my dad. I haven’t heard from anyone this evening, which is generally good news. I will see him tomorrow…
