A Monday without an MMP is like . . . (a substitute MMP)

Glad to hear she’s doing better, Special One.

I’m back from vacation! Actually I’ve been back since Monday night, but I’ve been very busy. They saved a bunch of work just for me!

I’ll post about the trip on Monday in the MMP. We had a wonderful time!

I’ve been trying to catch up on things, but missing ten days is a bit much to catch up on! Hugs and kisses and chocolate to those who need them!

{{{{{Someone}}}}}, he-man style.

I lost my mother to lung cancer, so I know how it is.

On to the mundane stuff. Caffeination underway.

VWife has settled down a bit with the pre-surgery heebie-jeebies; we found someone from my church who has a couple of Boxers already willing to dogsit The Idiots[sup]tm[/sup] while she’s gone. That did a lot to her calm down. Still open is the question one at a time or 2 at once.

{{{{{Special One}}}}}

Rebo, they wanted to remind you why you’d gone on vacation in the first place.

Want some herbal, Bobbbio? For yourself or the VWife.

Smoking that stuff is illegal in these parts… :stuck_out_tongue:

TEA, silly!

I’m sorry to hear about your mother, Special. I too know what it’s like to lose a parent, so I know what you’re going through. My dad died when I was 25.

Bleh. I’ve got some sort of ick bug. My husband had it last week, and it’s very weird. Headachey and queasy stomach. It feels for all the world like a hangover. (Not that I would know what a hangover feels like … ) It doesn’t seem fair. Oh well, maybe I’ll lose a couple pounds in the deal. I certainly don’t feel like eating.

Surely someone has emailed swampers. It’s not like him to be so missing.

(((((SpecialOne)))))
The wedding was very nice, and they’re safely married. It’s another beautiful fall day, and I should do some cleaning. And eat breakfast.

(((((Special1))))) - you must be having a pretty rough time, but it’s good to see you back.

I just got to work an hour ago! My eye had been troubling me yesterday and overnight it was getting worse so I rang the doc’s for an appointment this morning, all was going quite well as I got an appointment at 10.10am and actually saw him at 10.40am. So he looks at my eye, asks a few questions, drops the dye in, peers a bit more, rolls my eyelid up for a look underneath it, and then says I have an ulcer and I need to go to the eye infirmary.

Bah! The eye hospital used to be about 10 mins walk from my GP’s surgery. Now it’s been moved to the main hospital site which involves a bus into town and another bus out again, plus the time involved in trekking round the New Cross site looking for the right building.

So, armed with my letter from the doc, I go on my travels. By midday I’m at the hospital, I’ve found the right building, I’ve had a vision test and I’ve seen the triage nurse. Now I just have to sit around for the hour-long wait to see the eye doc. Bang on 1pm, I get to see the doc, who does a few more tests, peers a bit more, shoves some more drops in, and then confirms what the GP told me and prescribes the same antibiotic ointment I had last year for the same condition.

Being a brave soul, I decided to hoof it into work and at 2.30pm I arrived. Woo. And hoo. The eye doc told me no computers, no reading, no driving, no operating machinery, no contact lenses and not to wear glasses too long in case I strain the other eye.

Hmm…but it’s ok to come to work, even though I can’t technically do anything? That’s the wonder of the NHS!

I’m trying not to worry about swampy. Maybe he’s just got a blowed-up computer at home or some such.

lunch, hope all continues to go well with your mom.

li-li, yay for attacks hubby. What’s new on the driving hubby and qd front?

bobbio, do you think vwife will have the courage to face a second surgery after going through the first? I’m a big fan of “getting it over with” myself. YMMV

Gotta go see to an Internet research request. Later.

Tupug

Aw, BooFae, that sucks. I hope your eye gets better soon. Eye-related illness are the worst.

Special1, you and your family are in my thoughts.

I am soooooooooooo exhausted. Yesterday was the worst - I had three classes, and the night before was Scottish Darling’s last night here, so we went out and had drinks with some friends. It ended up being just the two of us and one other guy. He’s a wonderful friend but he can be incredibly annoying at times, particularly around Scottish Darling because he’s always trying to impress her. I ended up concentrating pointedly on the Cubs game on TV in order to get away from the conversation. Anyway, I was so sleepy the next morning (had to get up at 6am ugh), but I had no time for a break because right after school ended I had to go home and see Scottish Darling off, then had barely an hour for a nap before I had to head back downtown for the Wilco concert (which was awesome, by the way). By the time it was over I was so hungry and tired that I couldn’t see straight. Minister’s Lad and I found a 24 hour diner that served barely eatable food. By the time I got home and took a shower it was past midnight again. I kept falling asleep on the subway this morning - I think the guy next to me was annoyed.

Anyway, hopefully I’ll adjust to this insane morning schedule soon. My only comfort is that I don’t have classes on Friday. Yay!

Morning all. {{{Special One}}} I hope your mom continues to do well in the short- and medium-run.

Where IS that silly Bear? I’m starting to worry, too!

So you got another Husband safely married off, LiLi? Congrats to the happy couple!

Papa Tigs woke up stiff but not sore, so that’s a definite improvement. He’s got the day off (they’re opening a new Amputee Center at his hospital, and more than half the Idiots on the Hill are coming for the grand opening, so everyone who actually has assigned parking on the campus got told to stay home so their parking will be available), which is good, and if need be can hopefully take tomorrow off as well. Here’s hoping he just moved the wrong way at therapy yesterday to cause such a bad spasm, and a couple more days of relaxing will get him back to normal. They do say that most back problems will go away by themselves, left alone for a few days. And he was able to sleep lying down on his side last night, so he at least got some good rest. So fingers crossed he continues to improve.

I’ve just got another exciting day of work ahead of me. Envy me my exciting life.

BooFae, your job for the next day consists of going to the water cooler periodically to make sure nobody leans on it and tips it over.

This way you’re not reading, not using computers, and you get to change the distances on which you’re focusing quite often, which is good for your eyes.

Do you at least get a note saying “no eye exertions”? I have serious problems picturing any boss taking “well, doc said I don’t get to use up sick days, but I’m not allowed to work”.

<snerk> You used ‘Swampy’ and ‘blowed’ in the same sentence. <snerk>

Hah. Movement on the QD-Driving Husband front? Hah.
Here’s hoping Papa Tiger continues to improve.

Okay. Now I’m really going to do housework.

{{{Special1}}}

I think swampy’s absence is the reason we’re only on page 4 on Thursday. Hope he’s ok.

What, if anything, do you do about friends who never bother to email except to send forwards? I have one friend who’s been doing that for years and another that I just gave my email to with the hopes of getting updates on how she’s doing and instead all I get are forwards. At this point I just delete all forwards without reading them, but do you say something to friends like that? Or just let them clutter your inbox and hope they give up someday?

Not for nothing, but perhaps the stress of travelling brought this on? Even tho they may have been enjoying themselves, air travel, and in particular US airports, can be very stressful. And if a person’s immune system is already weakened, well, there you have it. But I’m glad she’ll be home soon so she can feel comfortable again.

It’s going to be a beatutiful weekend, FCM. If I weren’t gonna be out in the woods beating people with a stick all weekend I’d try and bribe you guys with some more tater salad. Hope you have a nice trip.

I’m going to predict that **Swampy ** got on the wrong side of a taste test at work and is still slightly drunk.

We can hope. Looks like his last post was in the “What’s your favorite drunk food?” thread on Sunday.

Don’t be silly, this is the NHS! If I wanted that kind of thing I’d have to go private for it.

Tin Knickers has already been to see how bad my eye looks - it’s actually rather impressive 'cos the eye is completely red and now I’ve had both yellow and orange dye squirted in it. And it’s weeping, so you can imagine how much of a mess I’m looking. She did say (in earshot of our sub-division manager) that I probably should be at home but by the time I got back to my desk there was an urgent email from her about a meeting that I need to arrange. Of course, I have to look at my 'puter to do that…I guess sympathy only goes so far.

So who’s nobbled Swampy? Has he been drinking the profits again?

Today is my Friday!

I am maxed out on my vacation AND MrEms-to-be arrives in about 15 hours for a week long visit so I am taking a couple of days of work!

YAY!
