A Monday without an MMP is like . . . (a substitute MMP)

Oh what a glorious day, weather wise, anyways! Cool, low humidity, a little breeze, and a blue, blue sky!! I should probably do some outdoor chores. Mebbe. We shall see.

**mmmmmmmm ** - you kitty is gorgeousity!! And it’s obvious that she’s made herself right at home.

**rosie ** - I used my LJ to bitch about rampant 9/11-ism. I figger it’s my journal, and I can say what I want.

**welby ** - it’s looking like we may hit the water on Sunday - they’re predicting highs in the low 70s!! Saturday may be rainy, so that’ll be out. We shall see.

I sent off the check to Leah’s House today. I had a bit of a time crafting the accompanying letter. I didn’t want it to be too long or too self-congratulatory, but I wanted to make clear why I was sending it in case someone from the show said something to the board at Leah’s House. I hope next month’s check can be even bigger. But for that, I need to get my buns down to my studio and start getting muddy.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - is it Friday yet??

Nah, it was just me putting the thread to sleep for awhile.

Well, you did too good a job on the bear. :dubious:

Considering that Kentucky is separated from the state of Ohio by the Ohio River, not an inconsiderable body of water, the answer is no. You can get there from here, of course, but the airport is firmly in the Commonwealth.
I hope to never get near a thong. I’ve moved well away from thonghood at this stage of my life.

I just got the mail. **FCD ** has been offered a super-bargain subscription to Playboy - only $12/year - that’s $1/ issue or pennies/tit!!! WOW!!

He doesn’t want dinner again tonight, so I’m not cooking. Which is fine - I had a pretty big lunch and I’m not that hungry either. So it’ll be PB&J or cereal or something like that later. I can do that.

Who has swampy’s phone number? Somebody’s gotta call him and make sure he’s alive. I usta have his cell #, but not any more. :frowning: I wonder if he’s unlisted??

Thanks for the SQUEEEEs for Libby she is adorable.

However at 11PM last night the little bigger was removed from the room and put on a time out as she was biting and attacking me with intent.

She was all lovely an cuddly this morning when I let her back.

Oh, dear. Papa Tigs came home and changed, went to physical therapy for his neck, which is almost all better…and 20 minutes later was home. His lower back is all spasmed up! Poor guy, he can hardly move! And of course the PT people couldn’t do anything for it because they don’t have a prescription. Fortunately, I have my very own TENS unit from my own off-and-on back problems, so he’s hooked up and sitting very, very still in his desk chair.

I can see this is not going to be a fun night for him. :frowning:

aww, sorry for PapaTigs! Sending some gentle hugs his way in hopes that his back will un-spasm.

Echoing FCM, “Is it Friday yet?!”

Yay for Kai! Thanks for sharing the recipe, think I’ll try it out this weekend with pumpkin and chocolate … or maybe the carrot cake.

I’ve got an appointment with an orthopedist on October 1st; what I’ll probably do first is get cortizone injections. Some days, my knees/legs hurt so bad that I can barely walk. :frowning: As beautiful as today is, this has been one of my bad days. The relafen doesn’t seem to be helping with the pain, and the only time that they aren’t hurting is when I’m laying down & can prop my legs up.

Happy New Year to Special One and Rosie and hope that Ramadan goes well for you, Dotty. Sounds like everyone does get their usual quota of food, just not at the regular times.

Hope Swampy is okay!!!

Well, I googled **swampy ** on his local community news site and he didn’t come up as dead or arrested or winning a mega-lottery, so that’s something. But he needs a good talking-to when he gets back unless he’s got a doggone good excuse.

Maybe he’s busy…

Am home from work and they wanted me to switch my day around tomorrow-so now I go in at 0500, again. (this could get old).

I just realized I have nothing to say. Have a good night, folks.

Day 3 without a computer at work…we had a false alarm this morning and thought I would have a laptop by tomorrow morning. No such luck. Today, I went to a meeting with my director, sent a fax, made some phone calls, read a year’s worth of professional magazines, and put labels on books. Only 3 more boxes of books to go! Plus, I found an autographed copy. Woo hoo! I had no idea hardback books were so filthy, but my hands were black and grimy by the end of the day.

So this morning, about 9:15 ish, while soe maintenance guys were futzing around in the environmental control room, all our computers flicked off. Not the lights, just the 'puters Fortunately I had just hit ‘save’ 5 minutes prior and was pawing thru some papers when it happened, but some of the gals had been working since before 8am and hadn’t yet saved their work - that’s a few hundred accounts that had to be re-reviewed. And the guys in the enviro-room swore they didn’t hit any switches or corss any wires. :dubious: Yeah, right. then why did it happen to the whole building? (which is what we found out later in the morning)

So my knee’s been bothering me lately [del](interrupting phone calls, poking me in the arm, you know typical kid stuff)[/del] kinda of achy but not severly painful - turns out I may have overdone it a bit by leading with my right leg going downstairs. But I wanted to work the knee and push myself so I’ll heal faster. nope, not the thing to do. So now I have to cut back on a few exercises, plus I’m going to the surgeon next Thursday for an x-ray and just to be sure I didn’t screw things up. the PT guys believe it’s merely patella tendonitis, which rest and ice will take care of. Probably that’s the case, because I have none of the warning signs of infection or dislocation.
Meanwhile, my left ear has been feeling pre-infectiony, so I went to the doc and got a 'scrip for a Z-Pak, even tho he said it’s probably just seasonal congestion. but I will take NO chances when it comes to infections. so the Z-Pak will also prevent/knock out anything that might be going on in my knee.
And that’s my TMI (even though it was pretty tame) contribution to the MMP

Another day over. Things went resably well. The Christmas meeting is tomorrow, so much for a day off this week. Somebody left a fortune cookie package in hte store, so y’all can <snerk> away:

“Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another”

Rosie, hope your knee gets better. The Fox Sports guy wished everybody a “Shana Tovah”. Thanks to you I knew what he meant!

mmm, Libby looks like a stray that used to hang out at my apartment many years ago. I named him Fritz.

LiLi, why is your underwear inside out?

If that don’t bring da bear out of the woodwork, nothing will.

I hope PapaTigs gets better soon.

Where’s the night shift? I wanna punch out and go to bed.

Aww, thanks! And right back atcha! It’s nice to see you bouncing!

Whew! Glad to hear it. I was beginning to wonder for a while there. Did I wear you out?

And Happy New Year!! ::throwing confetti:: Is that not the right response?

Dotty, Happy Ramadan! It seems to me that this is the second holiday that centered around food in the last few months. . . fasting and gorging. Interesting pattern. How do people stay slim there?

rosie, Shana Tovah! How do you celebrate?

Nava, I’m with Scribbles on this.

Scribbles, how’s it going?

Playing old LPs sounds fun!! And yes, backing them up sounds like a good idea. I bet they warp pretty easy and that’s an invaluable collection, it sounds like.

Hmm, I don’t like hockey, football and breathing without wheezing is pretty much the same all year. What else ya got?

Herbs, sorry to hear about your legs and knees. Ouch!

rosie, glad to hear that you’re taking care of you. {{{rosie}}}
I see that the search party is already out for da bear. So I’ll just add another yell. . . swampy. . . get back here!!
I’ve been so tired lately. Maybe from the change of seasons or maybe just cause. So my plan is to sleep earlier tonight. Yeah, right. . .that never works. . . but it’s the plan anyway.

Good night and good morning everyone!

Dotty’s song for the night.

A Kiss to Build a Dream On
[Louis Armstrong]Give me a kiss to build a dream on
And my imagination will thrive upon that kiss
Sweetheart, I ask no more than this
A kiss to build a dream on

Give me a kiss before you leave me
And my imagination will feed my hungry heart
Leave me one thing before we part
A kiss to build a dream on[/Louis Armstrong]

doggio, do you have this one on LP too?

Wow, the MMP is fairly quiet today. I was fully expecting to come in and have to read through at least a couple of pages.

I was very productive at work and managed to make a certain task much easier for myself. Since it is a recurring task, I’m glad I did it. I honestly don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner.

I am TAHRED. After arriving home, I changed clothes, and then we went out to dinner with my MIL, a couple of nieces, and a couple of great-nephews. Nothing fancy, we just went to a Ruby Tuesdays about a quarter mile from the house.

We returned home around 8:00 pm and it’s all I can do to stay awake. The fact that I had a couple of mojitos is probably contributing to my sleepiness.

I think I’m gonna go lie down for a bit. Toodles and hugs to all.

P.S. Swampy, get yer tail in here. We’re worried about you!

'Ullo, all. Off to work-it’s still dark outside. And cold. It must be fall–I love it!

Only good thing about going to work at this hour is that I get off at 2pm. And then the errands await–someday I’d like to be just simple, quiet me, and get off this rollercoaster of glamour, excitement and prestige.

I haven’t actually “celebrated” in years, but I used go to services, and have a lovely roast chicken dinner with the folks and whichever aunt was up from Florida (usually the one I didn’t like so much)

A couple of times during my college years and after, I baked a traditional dessert, the name of which eludes me (Achod, maybe you remember it?) which consists of little baked dough balls stacked into a pyramid, kept in place by a honey based edible glue. Sometimes candied fruit is stuffed in the crevices. Another traditional treat is apple slices dipped in honey.

I think I just gained a pound of two from reading about the apples. Is it lunchtime yet?

Up and caffeinated, and time for a day of meetings. joy.

Only covering maybe the last 10 posts… apologies, yays, boos etc… to anyone and anything I’ve missed.

Wait… you were wearing anything!?

Sorry, I’ve never even heard of this… Maybe this is an American addition to the repertoire of Jewish Cuisine?

Yup. Yum

dunno… but here I am anyway

Oh, and (based on your original posting and on a very short skimming of the (now closed) Pit thread) count me as another person who thinks that you were basically pretty much guilty only of a very poor choice of words. As another person who knows what living under constant threat of terrorism, (I think) I know what you meant there, and I tend to agree with the sentiment (I think) you meant to show there.

OK, the (short, short) version of my AWOL-ishness…

You may remember that my mother has Sarcoma (a particularly bad Uterine Cancer). Anyway, she had started a second round of chemo treatments, but had been feeling pretty good lately, and had a two-week pause between treatments, which my parents decided to use in order to visit the U.S. So they flew out about 3 weeks ago…

FF to last Friday night, we get a call from my sister, who heard from my parents and wanted us to convince my father not to get on the plane from Newark to Tel-Aviv – seems my mother had been feeling pretty bad for a week now, unbeknownst to us, and had to be taken to the Providence-Newark leg of their flight in a wheel-chair…
A few phone calls later, when it turns out she’s breathing poorly even when resting, my father is convinced to take her to the hospital.
Extremely luckily for all involved, my maternal uncle (her brother) lives in NJ, not 20 minutes away, and had been there to see them off as they had a 4 hour layover.

FF 24 hours, we get a call from my sister again. Crying. Father had just called her that the physician had just asked him about a “living will” (re: resuscitation, “special effort” and such). And when asked, had said, yes, it may be a good idea for the kids to get there now…:eek::eek:

Call came in at 8 PM. 9:30 PM I was on my way to the airport; midnight we were (my brother, sister and I) en route. So I had zero time to tell anybody that I’d be away, even.

Sunday morning, we go straight from the airport to the hospital, fully expecting the worse. and … well, she was alive, but in really bad shape. Several times on Sunday we thought that would probably be the last day. Sunday night we brow-beat the medical staff into giving her a sleeping pill (I’m pretty sure she hadn’t managed to sleep a wink since roughly Wednesday). Lo and behold, Monday morning she was semi-coherent, Tuesday completely so, and to make a long story somewhat shorter, should be moved from ICU to a regular ward today, and may be out by Sunday and flown home on Tuesday (with supervision and oxygen, but still.) I’m pretty sure that getting a few solid hours of sleep at the very least helped to turn things around.

So, Tuesday afternoon, I was back on my way home with my brother (my sister, who is single, has stayed on with my parents until they can get back.) I’m currently working on getting three Jewish doctors (including the case physician in the U.S.) to talk to each other over the long holiday & weekend…

So things are looking up in the VERY short run. Medium run, I’m not so sure, and I’m still pretty sure there is no long run… but for now things are better.
