Thank you everybody for the good thoughts! I’ll keep you updated as events unfold. Right now I feel like a Communications Center – relatives, hospital, MedEvac expert, her Dr. here at home… trying to get everyone to talk to everyone else. It’s quite a challenge, especially since the whole country is on a 4-day holiday for the interim!
**BooFae **-- hope your eye is better soon. Enjoy getting paid not to do anything constructive for as long as you can…
Oh, and Haze?
You must have been really desparate (says the Red Sox fan, who really should know better… )
Wow, BooFae, you have half a rainbow in that eye! Does it look as impressive as it sounds?
Da Bear’s absence is definitely slowing us down. I hope he and ACBG and the BearFamily are OK… or, if not completely OK at the moment, that they’ll all be OK soon and we get to make appropiate cooing noises, yanow?
After a WTF moment when I tried to renew/order plates online and the web app said I was blocked because I hadn’t paid the county vehicle tax (I did, late, but they didn’t take the block off; resolved), I sent in my $$ and the DMV godz have bestowed on me the VBOB plate I wanted…
What is with people? I had an envelope to drop off for my boss. It’s about 3/4 mile from here to there - most of the time if it’s nice out, I walk instead of cranking up the car to drive literally - across a parking lot and a street.
Today, 3 people pulled up and asked me if I wanted a ride!!!
People, people, people - it’s 73, there’s not a cloud in the sky, I’m walking because I CHOSE to.
BBBobbio - if unsolicited opinions are of interest to the Wife, my brother in law had both knees done at once and says he is very glad he did.
I am upset. Caterpillars have eaten my passionflower vine down to bare vine. I was told they were army worms which are very destructive. Idiot me - I didn’t do my own research and killed a bunch of them before I searched and found that they are most likely Gulf Fritallary - only harmful to passionflowers and a very pretty butterfly. Sigh. At least I didn’t kill all of them before I found out.
Specialest - you, your Mom and your family are in my thoughts.
I hope I don’t have to drive to Leesburg and go a-Bear-huntin’.
BusDude, some years ago before everyone got all crazy with jogging and running and stuff, I used to take long walks, just because, and I got the same thing - kindly folks offering me a ride. I guess pedestrian is a foreign concept to some…
Well, it’s official, **FCD ** is getting surgicalized again. We don’t know exactly when, yet, but soon. And the doc says it’ll be more involved than the last time, since some of the bone growth has come back to where they’d cleared it out last time. Stoopit genetics…
We just came back in from a walk to the far end of our yard. One of the back neighbor’s trees fell across our fence and is just kinda hanging there. It bent the top fence rail, which we really don’t care about, but we do need to get it out of there. I’ll probably ask them to bring their chain saw and hack it up - I don’t like to use chainsaws, and **FCD ** is in no shape to do it himself. I don’t really want to talk to this neighbor - he’s the whacko that warned me about the “illegal aliens” next door.
I’ve got my poke tenderloin marinating in lemon-garlic (finally) and I’m gonna cook it up for supper in a while. Then I’m going to clean my studio. Really! I mean it this time. I want to start throwing again, and right now it’s such a mess, I couldn’t work. Oh yeah, good times ahead!
I just checked one of my address books - I’ve got swampy’s address and b-day info, but no phone. GRRRRRRRR! Wonder if anyone over on Skip’s board has his number??
Back when we all first got Internet, say, 2000, my sister was much enamored of forwarding “antiperspirant causes breast cancer!” type Snopes glurge to me. She liked the point-and-click no-brainer, instant “communication” aspect of it.
I finally just bluntly told her, “Stop forwarding all that glurge to me, it isn’t true” and “When I see your name under Sender, I expect info from you personally.”
So she stopped doing it, and now restricts herself to actual personal info.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Tough love, yanno?
SpecialOne, I’m keeping your family, especially your Mom, in my thoughts and prayers - and sending big {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you.
BooFae, hope your eye gets better quickly! It sounds like what one of my co-workers had, a sty way down on the inside of her eyelid–and it made her eye all black & blue, it looked like someone had hit her in the eye.
Still nothing from DaBear; I do hope he’s okay. I think I’m going to go lie down for a bit and take a nap. At least it’s Friday tomorrow!
I just sent swampbeer an email demanding he get his tush back in here at once
I had a good day today. I slept until 10:30 (well, I got up at 6 because Smokey demanded breakfast, but I went right back to sleep after reading the comics and checking in) (side note - I am bummed because FX has finally dropped BtVS altogether - replacing it with b2b Malcolm In The Middle’s) Got dressed, checked the Dope a bit more, went and got my hair and nails done, picked up some things at a CVS I need for the weekend (did I tell you we’re hosting the fall convention?), got the car washed and fed, fed my wallet, and even stopped at a different CVS to get something I forgot at the first one, and now I am home unwinding. I am mostly packed, have been since the weekend. I leave the suitcase downstairs and leave in it sundries and things that don’t need laundering (like my neck pillow, costume jewelry, make up, and such) because I cannot lug the case up and down the stairs anymore. I will relax for a while, then after dinner, I will clean out and organize the tote bags and get to sleep at a decent hour. I am picking my friend up at about 11 and we have to trek across the George Washington Bridge, which means going thru da Bronx, which is always a mess, but here’s hoping we’ll hit it at exactly the right time of day, so who knows.
Appropriate hugs and whatnot all around, the thread grew like crazy on me again! I will join the chorus wondering where Swampy went, though. Now I’m worried!
I am still all squee from work; we had a 12-week-old golden pup come in! And I got to brush him! He was wiggly as all hell but oh, soooooooooo cute! He was really good, though, for a pup that age. And really it’s great to start them young if they’re going to be going to groomers because they get used to the whole process young and generally behave better later. I wish I’d thought to get a picture. Puppy! Cuteness! Awwwwww.
FCM I read that as FCD has to get sterilized again. I was quite  about that…
Work wasn’t great, but it IS over for me until next Wed. I made a mistake–I forgot to type and screen a pt for blood. They did it in holding (the room you go into prior to OR), and the lady didn’t need blood after all. I still felt bad.
I don’t have jury duty tomorrow! YIPPEE! I need a day to catch up and just chill out, too. Been a bad week, with one thing or another around here.
Who’s on for next Monday? (I am NOT volunteering-just curious).
Lisslar–who is married? not Quasi-daughter and filll in blank husband here?
Evening, all. I’ve had a fun and exciting evening (not) trying to work, with heavy emphasis on “trying.” I’m just seriously bored with the job I’m working on, and what with having to get up every five minutes to do something so Papa Tigs doesn’t strain his back, it’s been an interrupted not-trying-very-hard session. I also learned that while my new knee will now let me kneel on well-padded surfaces, it still does not like me crawling around on hard floors under Papa Tigs’ desk looking for the itsy teensy pill he dropped. I’m not sure which of us was saying “Ouch!” more, but at least I know that mine wasn’t doing me any damage, just reminding me to try to not put full weight on that knee. I assume that someday I’ll be able to crawl around on it again without pain, but sure not today.
Bobbio, my vote is for VWife to get both knees done at once and just get it OVER with. It’s not an easy or fun rehab, and frankly, the thought of going through it a second time gives me serious pause. I’m very grateful that I only have the one bad knee; if both were bad, and knowing what I know now, I would definitely just get it all done. So if you think my recent experiences would help her decide, by all means pass it along.
Looks like we may get some rain out of Humberto, although hopefully he’ll drop most of his rain on areas that need it far worse than we do. Especially after that nice soaking rain we got a couple days ago.
Where are you going, Rosie? You’ve probably already said and I just missed it, but in any case I hope you have fun. I walked across the George Washington Bridge once, by way of almost non sequitur.
I’m going to try to get a bit more of this piece of shit job done and then get a good night’s sleep so I can finish it in the morning. I originally hoped I might get it finished today, but the nonstop interruptions have made it hard enough to focus I pretty much gave up on that idea by early afternoon. This is why I’m glad that Papa Tigs is feeling well enough to go back to work tomorrow – plus if he does anything really bad to his back, he is in the middle of a hospital, a good place to be under the circumstances. It’s much easier to work when I’m home by myself.
Sorry about your Mom, SO. Keep us updated. She’s in my thoughts and prayers.
Hope this absence just means swampy’s had to work overtime.
For whoever asked: Rebo is up on Monday, scheduled to report to us about her fabulous vacation.
Speaking of which: I’m back! Had a WONDERFUL time in Chicago. More later. I’ve been trying to catch up, upload and edit pics, and also get some sleep - hanging out with rambunctious teens makes one tired. They were lots of fun, though.
Almost forgot: Congrats on the engagement, scout! Great news!
I seem to remember something like that. Of course, I have no idea what it’s called or where I’ve seen it, but I do remember a pyramid with candied fruit in it.
Were you so tired that you don’t remember the color red? There, there. :: patting Lunch on the head:: I’m sure you have a lot on your mind.
 Whoa! That’s some story. I’ll send some healing thoughts out to your mom and the rest of your family.
Er, not to be a stickler. . . but does this count?
taxi, when people send me forwards (mostly Christian glurge for me), I tell them I’d love to hear from them personally but could they please take me off their mass-distribution list? It’s worked so far.
Wait, wait. . . .I hadn’t sent my good thoughts yet. ::sending good thoughts:: OK, continue on. . .
Seconded. . .on both counts.
So. . .are we hunting bear or shooting bear? I gotta know which outfit to put on.
Today I had the best veggie pizze with soy cheese I’ve had in a loooong time. It was fabulous. And a wonderful sweet and juicy peach with some sweet and crunchy grapes. Yum!!
So my tummy is happy and now I’m off to bed.
Happy New Year to some; Happy (?) Ramadan to others and just plain ol’ good night and good morning to everyone else.
Morning all. Sorry for being AWOL again, but I guess I get a pass on account of swampbeer being even more missing than me!
SWAMPY, WHERE ARE YOU???
{{{{{Nooner}}}}} Prayers and healing thoughts headed your way.
Roo, the [post=8975442]unique regional words thread[/post] is my inspiration for your song today.
[Men at Work]Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,
“Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.”[/Men at Work]
I also wanted to link this article for you all this morning. I used to read these stories and think, “How sad!”, but now that I am a mother, this made me truly heartsick. I know I wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice my life for my daughter, but this really makes me weep.
On that note, HRH is demanding my attention again. Yays, boos, hugs, etc. as appropriate, leftover BBQ Chicken Mini-Pizzas for all and some special choccie love offerings for FCM …
