Morning, all. I’ve been up and caffeinating for a while. It is actually CHILLY this morning! It was downright COLD last night, at least for keeping the windows wide open – down into the low 50s! Wonderful sleeping weather; I piled on an extra blankie and snuggled with a warm kitty all night and slept like a baby. Perfectamundo!
Papa Tigs got an email from his brother this morning; a guy he hunts with went hunting in North Dakota, and came back with this elk. Apparently it’s the third largest rack <snerk> of elk ever shot in North Dakota. I didn’t KNOW they came that big!
Other than that, I’ve got nuttin’ this morning except that I’m almost done with another scarf, in a pretty handpainted wool in various shades of orange/green/blue – not my favorite choice of colors, but I’m sure it will be for someone. Again, following my rule: Don’t just rely on my own tastes! Especially since the scarves with orange in them were the first to sell at the craft show. But I’ve got to get a bunch of work done today – since I’m going out of town for a week, that means I’ve only got a week to get two weeks’ worth of work done. Not that I’ve exactly been killing myself thus far. I guess I really should be a good girl, though, and get to it.
Hi all! I’m about to head out to the grocery store. I’m just waiting for my dad to wake up from his mid-morning nap. He sleeps a lot during the day, then stays up all night. Sounds like a teenager, huh?
I’m looking forward to watching a bit of football - we didn’t see any local teams last weekend. Go Texans! I watched the Longhorns eke out a win yesterday - they’re gonna have a rough season, looks like.
I have the MMP all ready to go. There are so many linked pictures, it might take me 20 minutes to get it proofread! I’m gonna post it around 10:00 pm, 'cause I’m not too awake at 5:00 am when I get up.
It’s not as warped as your demented mind is imagining. My sister wants me to make mugs for her and 5 of her friends. Once request was that the handles look like arthritic hands. The other was that I put “band aids” on all of them. Apparently her “gang” is full of old, clumsy people. And since my spouse’s fingers are more substantial than mine, I asked him to be my model.
Not as perverted as you’d expected, huh?
My machine has a free arm. I just don’t like sewing stuff requiring round seam lines. I always end up with puckers - I was sewing a cylinder of fabric to a round top - what a bitch that was!!
It was chilly this morning - 46 when I got up - got down to 65 in the house. Dare I hope that autumn is truly here??
Just back from the marina. The sail cover is covering the sail. But I forgot to take the camera, so I’ll have to post a pic sometime later. I’m cleaning up my sewing crap, then I intend to change in to grubbies and go throw some cookie jars, and maybe the mugs for sis.
The restaurant we went to last night was tres yummy and the service was outstanding as well.
After dinner, we came back here, had a few more drinks, and played games. There was talk about going to a casino, but neither hubby or I were interested in throwing away a couple hundred bucks.
Today is Mr. Taters 44th birthday. Shortly, I need to go into the city next to us to pick up his gift. After that, we’re going to MIL’s for dinner.
I really wish we could just stay home and relax, but MIL wants to do this.
The mysterious screaming on Friday has been solved. It seems the schizophrenic man next door (Screaming Neighbor’s brother) was off his meds. They came and picked him up this morning. Two cop cars, a fire truck, and an ambulance. The cop cars were parked in their usual spots when they come to that house. They may as well go ahead and mark those spaces “SJPD”. Anyway, it seemed to take 3 officers and both paramedics to strap him in, and he was shouting all the while. Poor guy. I don’t think he’d been home more than a few weeks. So, apparently he was the source of all the screaming on Friday, and they had the helicopter up to look for him. I don’t *think *he’s dangerous to anyone except himself, although he can be frightening when he gets going about the CIA/FBI/KGB/being a Green Beret in 'Nam and laughing maniacally all the while.
Then my grandmother called and we chatted for a while. My uncle is still undergoing radiation, but the cancer seems to have stopped spreading, so that’s really good news.
I think I’ll head out for brunch, then grocery shopping.
What do you people mean, “The Dope was down overnight…?”
It was down** all freakin’ day** today! ::shakes off the last of the Shakes::
First day back at work after a week. Or a week and a half? Let me count… Thursday, Sep. 6, Reserves Duty. Then weekend. Then I won a surprise trans-Atlantic flight . Then Rosh Hashana – yup, 10 days out of work. No wonder it was hard to get back into the grind
Fall is definitely arriving, it’s supposed to get up to 61F tomorrow, thanks to a front coming through. I don’t think it’ll be too much longer before it starts dropping below freezing pretty much every night. Here’s to warm blankets and a cool room!
Jahdra, that poor guy. I hope he’ll be okay. And the vast majority of such people aren’t dangerous to anybody besides themselves, no matter what you hear.
My grandma sounded somewhere beyond thrilled when I called her yesterday to let her know I’m coming for a few days. I need to go now, before winter, and during a slow season, because work will get busier later in the winter when the tourists come back to ski! Also, I don’t want to try driving across mountains when there’s snow on the ground. Call me a coward, but it’s going to be enough of a challenge getting around town once there’s snow, I don’t want to try to cross a couple of states in it! At least not this year. Have I mentioned I’ve driven in snow a handful of times? And I’ve moved to a place where in a good year it just about gets measured in feet?
Well, dang I woulda stayed hid out if’n I knew the Marines were about to come hunt for me.
Howdy Y’all! We’ve churched, lunched and now I got chicken doin’ its thing on the smoker. Smells great outside right now. In just a bit folks will be over to hang at the pool. It’s not so hot buy hyoooooooomid out so the water will feel nice. I plan on supper bein’ around fiveish which means I should get rid of everybody by around seven and can get myself all ready for beddy bye and the wonderful world of work tomorrow.
I’ve been to church and then grocery shopping and now really need to go outside and mow and weed a bunch.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Taters!!!
Haze is still internet-less at home, SO, so I think she’s only posting here during the week.
When do you leave for grandma’s, snowbunny?
Sounds like you’re having fun, mmmmmmmmmmmm. Will Mr. ems-to-be be joining you once he becomes Mr. ems? Or will you be joining him (can’t remember where he lives). Or none of the above?
I slept really poorly last night, so I feel like taking a nap. Maybe I’ll do that before heading outside.
I’m heading out on the 3rd. I will then have the money to actually do this. I don’t have to pay for a room when I get there, but there’s gas and a room somewhere along the way both coming and going – it’s about a 12-hour drive, so I’m going to split it over a couple of days. Is that mundane enough for this forum? g
It just gets nicer and nicer here today. The temperature has gotten UP to a whopping 64°! I dug out my lovely alpaca wrap that I knitted for myself last year to keep my arms & shoulders warm in the breeze. (I’m waiting on the last bit of yarn to arrive to start yours, Rosie!)
And although his back wasn’t feeling up to taking the Idiots for a swim, Papa Tigs did take them over to the soccer field of a nearby school for a session with the ball. Apparently he sat at one end of the field, by the SUV, which he’d left the back hatch open on with a bowl of water on the ground by it. When Isaac decided he’d had enough, he ran over, took a drink, hopped up into the SUV, and lay down as if to say, “Well, I’m done, aren’t you?” Silly puppy! He used to run himself to exhaustion; at the age of about 6, amazingly, he’s actually learned to STOP when he gets tired! Which I seriously thought would never happen.
Back to work. Which is so exciting I can hardly stand it.
I just skimmed, mostly on a bear hunt, so approps all around
I am home, and tired, and covered in purr and fur, and enjoying a Mike’s Cranberry Lemonade, then it’s off to sleep until I ma hungry enough to wake up, or tomorrow, which ever comes first.
Well, I prettified myself, ran to Tacoma to pick up Mr. Taters b-day present, and am currently waiting for Mr. Taters and the Taterkids to get ready to go to MIL.
I wanted to get the birthday present yesterday and have it all set up and in the den when **Mr. Taters ** woke up this morning. Alas, it was not to be, because he wanted to use my rig to help my MIL w/something yesterday afternoon. I just didn’t have time because of my hair cut/color and folks coming over.
So, I made sure I was up today to get it. I got him an electric guitar and amp. It came with a tuner, picks, instructional DVD, strap, bag, headphones, and a couple of other things. I got him a pretty blue guitar. It’s what they call a starter kit, so everything came together. Once he decides he’s really into it, we’ll drop the coinage required for a really nice guitar. The guitar with the kit is made by Fender, but they call it a Squier, which is a lower end guitar. All the same, **Mr. Taters ** is excited and is currently looking at websites that’ll teach him how to play.
I’m thrilled because I was finally able to get him something other than a computer game or clothes. That’s all he ever asks for, so I was excited to be able to buy him something like this.
He just said he can’t wait to start playing it.
He also said thanks for the birthday wishes.
I guess I should get going and hound this family into getting ready. We’re supposed to be at MILs at 2:00 and Mr. Taters hasn’t even taken his shower yet.
Considerable clay success today - yay! I threw about 18# all told (I actually weighed out the raw materials this time.) I threw 4 jars-n-lids. Two will be monsters, one will be a bigger version of Grammy Bunny, and one will be a cat’s head and the lid will be a hat with ears poking thru. I also threw 7 mugs-to-be - my sister wants 6, and I made an extra just in case.
My back is achy from leaning over - I think I need a taller stool. And my hands are all prune-y from both throwing and cleaning up. But I’m pleased with what I got done.
I’ve got some fish thawing for supper. In a few minutes, I’m going to toss some rice into the steamer and decide what veggies to cook up. I wonder if I’ve got the makings of some sort of dessert-like substance? I might be able to toss together a peach cobbler… hmmmmm
**snowbunny ** - when I went to Purdue, I’d never driven in snow. While there, we had 3 blizzardous winters in a row. It’s not fun but it’s not necessarily horrific. Slow and steady is best. You’ll figure it out. Or you could get a chaffeur. Either way.
I have been diligently staying away from 'pooters all weekend like a good person. Saturday morning I went to the horsepickle for my 10.30am appointment, had a vision test about half an hour later, and finally got to see a doctor about 2hrs later.
She wasn’t sure what to do so she said I needed to wait for the senior doctor. Oh joy. He was still doing his rounds in the main eye hospital (I was at eye casualty) so it was at least another hour before he showed up, then she had to brief him on the number of people he’d be seeing.
So after about 4.5hrs of waiting around, I get to see the Really Important Doctor. He has a look at my eyes, squirts lovely dye in both of them, shines very bright lights at them, pulls concerned faces and then tell me that the treatment they gave me on Thursday is useless.
Instead, he’s prescribed eye drops to be used four times a day for a week (then in decreasing doses for the next three weeks) and a month’s worth of anti-biotics with the most amazing list of side-effects imaginable. Looking at all of the side-effects, it appears that I’ll either end up completely blind in that eye, or I’ll be nearly dead of pancreatitis or liver failure.
I have to go back to the horsepistol in two weeks for a follow-up exam and hopefully he’ll decide then that the new treatment is working well and that will be the end of it. I certainly hope so, our wonderful National Health Service provides me with free treatment (provided I can bear to wait for it!) but charges me for all the medication so I’ve had to pay three lots of prescription charges because they charge separately per item. Not to mention the number of painkillers I had to take when I got home on Saturday 'cos I had a horribly nauseous headache after the bright lights and stuff.
Sneakin’ in for a quick post. I gotta go put bread in the oven in a minute. Been fun this afternoon. Warm but not hot, ok, at least for south Jawja. Pool time was a blast. All the food, ‘cept bread is done and soon feastin’ shall begin. Ok, off to do the bread. Later Y’all!
Hope the eyes get better quickly, BooFae. I think I would cry if a doctor told me s/he wasn’t sure what to do. Hope the new antibiotics work well and don’t cause any of the possible side effects.
Yay on all the clay-throwing, FCM!
I took about an hour’s nap and feel a little more rested. Just going to have a cuppa and then I’ll be heading out to the garden. Really.
